Like the idea of doing something new challenge. Will have a think.
Well we are stocked up for a siege. Ds2 took me shopping so all the cupboards and freezer are loaded to the gunnels now. Will make life nice and easy for me.
I used to do a lot of sewing. I made nearly all my clothes when I was a teenager but haven't bothered for years. Perhaps I might start again one day.0 -
I am a terrible sewer, but I have a few jobs to do on the machine, I pile them up and do in one swoop, a friend has asked me to turn up 2 pairs of jeans for her, so I may spend this wet horrid Saturday afternoon unpicking and pinning the hems, then next wet miserable day get the machine out.Do I need it or just want it.0

Chanie I already did something totally new for me yesterday.
I suffer quite badly from Vertigo.
I needed to get from one side of the River Thames to the other side and the quickest way was to walk over the Millenium Bridge. So, I took my courage in both hands, said a prayer to God and walked across the Millenium Bridge. I could not look at the views, I could not look down, I begun to feel sick and light headed as soon as I was a few steps onto the bridge. My legs begun to shake when I was about a third of the way across the bridge, but I kept my eyes only on the people in front of me, took one step at a time and got across the bridge. :j
I felt the most exhilarating sense of pride in my own achievement as I finally put my feet back on solid ground.

Feel a lot better today but still going to take it easy. A little gentle tidying up.
Apparently the heatwave starts tomorrow.
Bring it on........ :rotfl:0 -
:Twell done sugarbaby, that really is a challenge. London Eye next?;)
Do you have a link for the denim dress chanie? Delighted that you're pleased with it. I think this summer is proving that, for this country, we only need 'a wardrobe' not separate winter and summer ones. Denim is a great fabric for going from one season to another. Jeans are the obvious choice but I've been fancying a denim skirt for ages but not found exactly the right length or colour. I want dark denim, just above the knee. I think they look good with bare legs or opaques and a t shirt or a woolly jumper.
I can sew a bit although a bridesmaid's dress when DD1 was little is the most fancy I've ever been asked to do. I remember it was in a treebark satin that ravelled as good as look at it. These days I don't do any dressmaking (other than the occasional bit of fancy dress when asked) and most sewing is soft furnishings. I enjoy knitting too and embroidery but I need to want the end product if that makes sense. I've knitted an Aran cushion in recent years but that's about all.
The massage and facial were very relaxing and enjoyable. I never have facials frequently enough to notice a lasting improvement but my skin feels soft and hydrated. The only problem was lying down bought on yet more coughing which was irritating.:(
We've been invited to a party tomorrow. My nephew holds a sort of garden party for his toddler this time of the year and invites family which is kind of him. It's not a BBQ, usually platters of nibbles bought in from M&S. I feel I should go but as I've not really been anywhere for 2 weeks without fits of coughing and feeling exhausted I don't know. The good thing is that even though I feel washed out I don't look it because of my tan!:D0 -
maman here is the link for the dress

It's quite expensive for what it is, so I was going to stalk it until I could get a discount code, but it started to sell out, so I just bought it.
Oasis had some denim skirts a couple of months ago, which were dark denim and knee length. They had a couple of different styles in, so plenty of choice. Not sure if they are still in stock.
sugar well done your facing a challenge and conquering it. You really went to town on 'trying something new'.
My 'try something news'
I thought up this challenge as I've tried a few new things recently which have been fun - even if they haven't been successful:
My two newest purchases (denim dress and lip gloss) have been successful -the dress from a shop I'd don't normally go in and the lip gloss in a scary deep red.
Cakes -I've baked a couple recently which, although weren't brilliant is a step in the right direction.0 -
My new challenge today was collecting my prize from the Mayor of Bromley at Wordfest 2016 on Beckenham Green after I won 1st prize in the over 18 catergory. :j I insisted on my daughter and son coming with me to support me.

I had entered a Poetry competition which was a part of Wordfest 2016 for the 1st time in my life about 2 weeks ago. I sent in my entry, then forgot about it. When I got a phone call yesterday evening to explain that I had won, I was so excited and was astonished that I had won the 1st prize. I can not use my prize, because it is an annual pass for 2 adults and 2 children for this venue called Gambado. It is a play and party centre for children in Beckenham. If I knew someone who could use it, I would gladly give them the details.
I also performed 2 of my poems to a small audience at the same event in the Creative Canopy and they were well received
I wore my red sleeveless top that has a keyhole cutout in the front with a 'gold' bar across the top of the keyhole shape. I wore it with one of my black pull on skirts and my red patent leather crocodile effect Van Dal sling backs. I was carrying my red patent leather Osprey handbag. I wore lots of perfume, black mascara and bronze eye shadow. I wore solid gold jewellery and my gold plated Tissot watch
It turned out to be a blisteringly hot day and my feet were badly swollen by the time we were going home and my lovely Van Dal sling backs were causing me agony.
As soon as I got home, I had to soak my feet in a bowl of warm water and Sally Hansen citrus mint foot soak. I should not have been so vain and worn more sensible shoes. Lesson learned the hard way!

:well done sugarbaby, that really is a challenge. London Eye next?;)
Maman I did the London Eye some years ago and found it really boring, so would never bother going on it again.
Chanie I loved my River Cruise so much I bought myself the 3 day River Rover and plan to spend 3 days next week hopping on and off City Cruise boats and exploring more of London via the River Thames. It was a Groupon deal and fantastic value at only £9.35

Congratulations on your win, sugar. Can you give us a couple of verses of your work.
If it's not too cheeky, I'd make good use of the passes sugar. Gambardos isn't too far from me and my children would love it.0 -
Sugarbaby. Well done on both crossing the bridge and winning the poetry competition. GO YOU. :T:T:T
The river pass sounds fantastic. What a lovely way to sightsee round the city and what a bargain!!!
I know what you mean about swollen feet, mine do this in hot weather too. Last time I flew they were really bad and it was only a two hour flight. I also have the same problem sometimes even on trains and coaches. I think it's the inactivity, although I do try and do some foot exercises whilst sitting. I am going to have to start wearing compression socks when travelling.
Still very stiff and delicate and now have some brusing on my legs. The bump must have affected me more than I thought. Looking forward to Physio on Tuesday. It should help, I just have to be patient - not my strong point.:rotfl:
I did a bit of weeding in the garden yesterday but really struggled so just gave it half an hour. With all the rain the garden is very neglected and overgrown. DS2 is on holiday next week. He's not going anywhere. He had planned to decorate his bedroom but he has decided he can put that on hold. Apparently we are in for a spell of good weather next week so he will help me in the garden. We can paint indoors when it's raining.
He says he will do my bedroom whilst I'm in Belguim so I don't have to suffer the paint. Isn't he a sweetie.....I'm thinking a pale duck egg blue. Maybe just one feature wall and then the rest white.0
