£1200 OVER 2 months ago, works out to £130ish a week, if you have provided all the groceries etc, and all the things for the boys, plus your personal items you have done well, I assume he is expecting food, his laundry done and his toiletries to be replaced,. I would start making notes so you can demonstrate how much things cost.Do I need it or just want it.0

Not much to report from me, OH has been working long hours so we haven't talked much, not sure if that's a good or bad thing! Nothing to report from work either on the potential redundancy. OH got his bank statement yesterday and had a little moan that the money he'd put in an account for me had gone (I spent the last a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't face the moaning when I told him!). When I worked it out though, I've spent around £1200 over two months, which includes milk, nappies, food etc for the boys, food shopping for the house, and everything personal for me - I don't think that's too unreasonable?!
£1200 is £600 a month, which isn't that much, particularly when you have two lots of milk and nappies to buy. Maybe you should ask your OH to manage the shopping for a month, so that he can see how difficult it is and he may be unpleasantly surprised.0 -
Thanks pamsdish and chanie - looking at it £130 a week isn't actually that much (I think!) when it includes £20 - £30 on baby milk, £5 ish on nappies, another £10 or so on baby food/ snacks, a couple of lots of nappy cream at £5 each, etc etc. Plus a couple of bits I've bought from ebay, a highchair, some toys and some clothes - around £20 in total.
I probably spend around £5 per day on myself which is things like a coffee or sandwich out. Which ok I could cut down on, but the little things help me stay sane when I'm walking the babies to get them to sleep, or not having to cook at home because OH gets so grumpy about things being 'in a mess'.
Hmmm, it looks like soup for dinner for me for a long time; at least it'll keep costs down and I have plenty of bread in the freezer to go with it! Not very Slimming World friendly but I've had to stop going (couldn't afford the £5 per week membership) and bread is by far the cheapest thing I can find to eat.....
Finally debt free!! March 2018 :j0 -
Oh dear Ruby. I think your man needs a dose of reality......maybe let him handle the budget and see how well he does.
Babies don't come cheap, end of story. Also because you are very tired and constantly under time constraints you need to take shortcuts. Shortcuts cost money. And if having a coffee when you are out and about keeps you sane then as we say oooop North "it's cheap at half the price"
No I know it doesn't make sense, it's just a daft northern saying which means it's worth every penny.......:rotfl:
Well today a minor miracle occurred. I had a car crash. The other driver slammed into the offside front wing, the car will be a write off. Anither foot or so further back and she would have rsmmed into my door and I would have been toast.
I am a very lucky woman.0 -
LL I am so glad to hear that you came out realitively unhurt from your car crash as it was such a close call for you.
I went to see Eye in the Sky. I really enjoyed it. I was mesmerised by the action. It is a fast paced, taut, well acted thriller with very believable characters. I would give it 9.5 out of 10.
I had not realised until today that Odeon does Silver Screen each week where you only have to pay £3 for your Cinema ticket and you also have free tea, coffee and biscuits if you want them. I am strictly speaking too young at 54, but I will be 55 years old next April, so I will stretch the point so that I can save money at my local Odeon.
I wore a deep purple 3/4 length sleeve top with a deep v neckline and a diamond of large purple beads to embellish the front of the top. I wore it with my M & S black pull on skirt and my black patent leather Van Dal sling backs with the button detail. I was carrying my black leather Osprey handbag. I wore lots of perfume, but no make up or nail polish. I wore my Wallis rainproof black coat. I wore silver jewellery with deep purple QVC sandstone heart pendant and earrings, with my stainless steel diamond Ingersoll watch.0 -
ll pleased you are okay and I hope you aren't shaken up. I forgot to add a belated happy birthday too.
ruby I think you should get your OH to do a week's shop, including milk and nappies and see how he manages. £30 a week isn't huge and you should have a bit of fun money yourself. Maybe going back to SW is good opportunity to leave OH with the children, to get some 'me' time.
sugar my Mums partner loves the silver screen cinema and goes regularly. Ho complained when his local cinema stopped the free coffee.0 -
LL glad you are unharmed, but it`s the sheer inconvenience of not having a car that will annoy you, paticularily as you are feeling generally unwell at the moment.Do I need it or just want it.0

LL glad to hear you weren't injured, but expect a bit of after-shock after the impact.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

LL Hope that the car accident doesn't leave you stranded without a vehicle for too long.
Glad to hear that you weren't injured.
A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Good morning ladies.
Floss - you were right. The aftershocks have arrived. I feel grim. A splitting headache, muscle aches and stiffness - especially my neck and shoulders, no bruising that I can see but I think some form of whiplash.
Will need to try and book some Physio, although I don't even want to be touched at the moment so I might wait a day or two.. Ideally I could do with a couple of home visits or change my usual practice for one nearer home so I can take a taxi. I'll have to see what I can arrange.
But for today I think I will just settle for a long soak in the bath. The sun is shining so hopefully will just rest in the garden later.
Whatever happens car wise, I am going to without for several weeks so I need to get organised with food shopping. I am insured to drive my sons car do we can car share for a while so there's no real problem. Although it might be a couple of days before I feel up to driving.
We have a mini Sainsburys just round the corner which is fine for bits and bobs. Luckily DS2 is off next week, starting tomorrow So we can do a big stock up and we will take it from there.
And if course these days there's always online shopping so theres no real worries.
Once I am feeling more like my old self I have a gold card for local bus travel and because we live so close to the city centre a taxi is only around £5 so transport really wont be too much of an issue.
Right now though I feel like I just need to rest for a few days. Luckily I've got a month till my trip to Belgium and a nice clear diary so can just take the time out that I need.
The house hunting can go on hold till after my holiday.
I've been thinking that what I really fancy is a nice SPA break somewhere so when I'm up to it I might see if there are any offers.
A nice little rail journey and a couple of nights in a relaxing spa hotel being pampered sounds like heaven.
If anyone knows knows of any good deals.0
