  • Hi Catgirl

Well done on starting this journey. I realised 4yrs ago that my (and my hubbys) debt was spiralling out of control at £90K!!! I plugged all our debts into a snowball (www.whatsthecost.co.uk) and 4yrs on we have just £11K left! It's been an amazing journey that I couldn't have taken without the help of my sister who allowed me to transfer 2 of my cards to her on 0%. Once that happened, those 2 card companies then offered me 0% on those cards and so the merry go round of transferring until all my debt was 0% was complete. It's been a real eye opener for me as previously I've taken consolidation loans which don't teach you a thing. Paying down based on interest rate and seeing the balance reduce each month is so rewarding and makes sure that I'll never ever allow myself to get into that situation again. Good luck on your journey. I'm sure you'll get there. xx

I too was blinded by the consolidation thingy  Paid CCs off then racked up CCs again

Lesson learned there I haven't used them for months :D

Also I hope to get my cards on to 0% as I go along. As I am paying them down I am hoping for decent 0% offers

Anyway well done on getting this far WOW

  • Thanks. We were really strict at the beginning and changed everything from where we shopped for food to refusing nights out etc. This year, we've allowed ourselves a bit more freedom and spent a bit more on ourselves (good holiday) and the house (new heating), but we've both just said that we need to knuckle down and get this last bit paid off. I suspect it'll be the hardest bit just like a diet!

Good luck on your journey. Remember to let yourself have some treats once in a while. Life is very much for living too, even while snowballing. xx

Lets not even talk about diet

I need a huge kick in the rear and get that sorted too :D:D

  • I am HUGE..well, over weight and need to lose at least a stone and a half...
My holiday this year is already paid for and DH is looking forward to it... I need some spending money and have factored that in to my money for the year.

I also have a lot of payments to come off very catalogue which I take out 12 months interest free so when they come up I have accounted the money to pay for them too...

I have decided to transfer as much as I can from Barclaycard
to Tesco card and then pay the remaining BC off which I can do in 4 or 5 months then I hope they will offer me a Bal transfer.....

    I will do this tonight.

You have all been a real inspiration to me with your stories of commitment and this is helping me go on...

I'm not the only one with big debts I was really thinking that I was the only one.
What's even better is you are nearly there :T:D

Let me assure you you are NOT the only one. I thought that when I first joined but soon realised that there are hundreds on here in the same boat and others that have done it and come out the other side. :D

That will be me and you one day :j

The inspiration I have got from here is amazing. Keep reading CG YOU WILL GET THERE. :T

A bit of a shock to the system.
No money issues to report today but I slept a 100% better and feel more determined than ever decided to start diet once all goodies in house have been consumed.

Need to shed 2 stone really.... Will add this to signature when I start the diet...

This is wise. Until recently, I had three cards; one used as the target card, one for low spends, and an old one I'd stopped using and which has now been closed off.

The cards with no or low balance will generally come up with an offer every two months at a minimum, as they want to get that balance back onto their books so they can benefit from any slips (missed payments or end of 0% period) meaning they can profit from the interest and any charges etc.

In short, and from my own experience, I'd say it's very likely you'll get another balance transfer offer from Barclaycard in that period

One thing I'd say is to make sure you plan ahead if you get one sooner than the 0% period expires on the cards you plan to transfer, as the timing may not line up exactly. ;)
