Must be old age but why would I need kodi on my computer.I can find all sport/film streams myself.

    What else can it do?

I'm not really into tv/films, but out of curiosity tried Openelec on a 8GB flash drive and found that it streamed better than using the pc.
No real explanation, just my experience. :)
    Move along, nothing to see.

A lot of streams have adverts and x all over the place on a PC unless you set up correctly .
Kod// on a PC allows you to test without buying a box first .A lot of the streams are just the same streams and as its now more popular often the service is slower .
Movies TV shows that are held on a server are generally ok sport is more problematic with a general rule the slow sports like bowls cricket and soccer are ok but expect buffering on faster sports like rugby .

To answer the OP's question, there's nothing illegal about the devices themselves, it's basically phone/tablet hardware in a box that you plug into a TV. Kodi and similar software is perfectly legal, and simplifies access to lots of internet content. Some of this content is illegal. If you're watching a boxing match, for example, on one of these streams, it could be someone re-'broadcasting' it without permission from the rights holder. As has been touched on in the thread, you also have absolutely no guarantee of quality.

Had XMBC for years and now KODI, have it on our desktop PCs and a dedicated media centre PC. You can adjust the settings to restrict buffering during playback, buffer a larger amount at the start or create a larger buffer.

Yes there is 4K content, but you need to know its not openly available, the issue is your internet speed, I think proper 4K video is something like 32GB a minute? Thats some internet connection.

Following his MBE, Dennis law was asked what the score would be if his ManU team played the current one.
    "We'd beat them 1-0"
    "Why such a low score?"
"Well, most of us are over 70 now ...."

Wow thanks for all the replies/opinions, most of which were over my head a little!

    Ive ordered this:
    http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-MXQ-Quad-Core-Android-4-4-TV-Box-Fully-Loaded-KODI-XBMC-Free-Sports-Movies-/361432033518?nav=SEARCH

Hopefully it will be okay but if not its not the end of the world at 35 quid!

As I now understand it apps are used to stream content via the internet (ill be connecting wired not by wifi), so any recommended apps? Thanks again!

    so any recommended apps?
Seems to have a lot already installed - Showbox etc
For an easy pre confined version of of Kodi - try TVaddons

That box looks a steal - Some time ago I paid 3 times that for a not dissimilar MiniX box - maybe time to update the other TVs with some of these

My box came today and I have set it up. My mrs is happily watching scorpion season 2 now. Its buffered a couple of times but nothing serious.

At the moment we have it running by wifi (about 5 inches from homehub!) - is it worth buying a cable for a wired connection?

Overall the box seems goid, just need some patience trying to find things!

My friends told me he has found pheonix and genesis to be the best apps.
