KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

To me, having the domestic sphere (and the garden areas, if applicable) sorted out and decluttered, with adaptions made with a view to age-related imfirmities if possible, is excellent sense and a good investment of money.
I know of a woman already past seventy, who purchased a 3rd floor apartment with no lift and the washing machine in a basement laundry room, to be her future home in 2-3 years' time. Madness - and she had ample means and time to source something senior-appropritate, too.
Needless to say, she never actually moved into that property, although she did rent if out for a couple of years.
Have been to work but have had a slight relapse of the cold symptoms (a pal who saw me this aft says I look drawn) so have taken myself back home and grounded myself for the remainder of the day. Contemplating a little sleep in bed imminently.
Old Tractor, chronic illnesses are a real PITA, I have a couple which are debilitating although mercifully not painful, so know what it's like when the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Take care of yourself, hun, and do what little bits you can and let the rest go hang; tomorrow is another day.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

A couple I know moved from a house to a semi bungalow a couple of years ago. Just before they moved he had a stroke, he's recovered a lot, but in his late 60s/70s, I saw them the other day, they've sold the bungalow and are moving back into a house. I'm told he fell out with the attached neighbour which prompted the move, but they must be mad moving into another house IMO.Make £2025 in 2025

I know yesterdays kondo is not really visible but it has made me happier, knowing that I have no stuffed cupboards. Everywhere had a thorough good vacuum upstairs and it feels so fresh, as though a wind has blown through
I found a makeup site for older women `look fabulous forever` maybe I will work through the videos over time, it does have good reviews so I have bought a lipstick to suit my cool skin tones. That plum colour always was my favourite shade, I made my favourite lipstick last for ages and then struggled to get one to suit me. I know now, its the skin tone. Nothing in the make up line to kondo, it was already done
The only thing I can think of now is jewellery, the likes of brooches collected over a long time, none expensive. I think I will do this slowly as the grandaughters have been eying my collection, one at a time to them.
I am feeling amazingly well and even now, at the end of the afternoon, am energetic enough to start a new batch of sourdough bread, it will be ready to bake on sunday. Every time I bake, I am kondoing, when this shiptons organic wheat flour is finished, then I will be using only wholemeal spelt and rye. Cycle ride was nice, only four miles but several hills, all along narrow country lanes, always aware of any speeding delivery van and jumping off to tuck myself in
Charis, a very good substitute is biona sprouted rye bread. Low carb as such is a nonsense fad, everyone needs carbs but it is the quality that matters. I don`t eat potatoes or sweet potatoes but I do have the likes of wholegrain spelt pasta sometimes. Fat also helps to slow the conversion of starch to sugar so baked potato with butter is not too bad for some. For lunch look for wholegrain wraps
It is good living in a house slinky, up and down the stairs is good exercise but a house with downstairs potential for a bedroom, just in case, is even better0 -
I think you're right about them being mad.
My parents had an extension built on their three bedroom terrace about 20 years ago which includes a shower-room with WC. It was done with half an eye to being used by Nan & Grandad if they needed and wanted to come live with my parents.
It didn't come down to that but, as it happens, with my mother having Parkinson's, there may be a time when she cannot get upstairs and we'll jyst move the furniture around and they can live in the ground floor as if it is a flat. It's a great relief to us all to know that a move won't; be forced on them due to disability.
Meanwhile, being a two-bathroom house is very convenient.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

An awful cold for 2 weeks (immune problem) plus the usual low energy/pain stuff has meant the Kondoing has been so slow, maddening because I know if I can get rid of all the stuff it will help me feel better:(
The good news though is that 1 bag of clean rag has gone to CS who are delighted to have anything that raises money and a box of defunct electrical and assorted metal stuff was dropped off at re-cycling plant (10 miles away, so store it up until in the vicinity. A bag of clothes and household stuff is coming together. I will be going through summer clothes soon as still have far too much that is too big, even if my condition improves and I can regain some of the unwanted weight loss, it will take some while and others might as well have the benefit:D
I have found a locally based charity that want my sewing machine to send abroad, it has not been used for years, and is too heavy for me now anyway, if I ever feel the need for one again, I will treat myself to a light one:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Gentle hugs to those that need and want them, I inadvertently kondoed my energy and health by over socialising this week and am paying the price now, so both sympathy and empathy from me today!
Kittie- I love make up, my suggestion for you would be in line with your new skin tone discovery, spend a bit of time testing them on your arm. This is good enough to give you an idea on how the colour will look on your face (this does not work for foundation!) and also if it is prone to creasing/lasting/too matte/too glittery etc. Walk around a bit and see how it lasts after 30 mins!
You can do this easily enough in any high street chemist on a quiet afternoon, no need to visit the department stores, although you can if your budget will stretch that far. I'd avoid the very cheapest, but r!mmel, bourg@is, revl@n are all affordable and decent. M@ybelline not so good- so/so.
Daily for work I use one neutral shadow applied with a flat foundation brush- 99p from pmark- one sweep with that covers the whole lid! Then sometimes a small fluffy brush swirled in a pale pink, peach or bronze, at the corner of the eye. This gives a hint of colour without any regard to defined shaping or brushing, no skill required!Jan 20 - NST challenge

The new (ouwardly improved) me is starting to appear. Woopee. This afternoon, skirt and lipstck!!! pity no=one came to my door :rotfl:
soon also eye shadow and I have lilylolo stuff and a brush for my face, for a quick swirl.0 -
It's amazing how different eye shadow can appear when applied to different skin. Even a "warm" colour like pink can have so much white or silver in that it's actually cool when applied. I need warm colours otherwise I look drained, it has been a revelation to me.Jan 20 - NST challenge

Kittie I find neutrals work easiest on the eyes. I'm warm tone and like an apricot/peach, but taupe usually suits most . Same with blush bourg@is do a healthy glow shade, which is peachy .Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0

For those of us who are not in the first flush of youth there are lots of really helpful tutorials on this website
The founder was fed up with finding products that did not suit older skins and and also with the lack of knowledge by those selling make up about us older ones, particularly as the grey pound is potentially worth a lot of money. I have tried some primers, an eyshadow, a lid colour and a lovely blusher, prices are comparable with department store.
Personally I mix budget ranges and higher end, I have used Clinique foundations for the past 25 years, Lily Lolo products are lovely and last for ages and ages, but a lot (the vast majority) of eyeshadows available in the chemists have to much sheen or glitter for me. For me Wilco brushes are pretty good too.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
