Doesn't that make so much sense! I suppose it all depends on the size of the site and the resources of the local authority. I always try and offer electricals on freecycle or the like first for spares before giving up and dumping them but it really does go against the grain to see them wasted in a skip."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. we have a council collection/repair/re-use system for all sorts and it is well used too
Does any of your bike chain show GQ? Even a bit, then you just clean that bit and turn the pedals as you clean, to move the chain around. Bike chain cleaning is basic maintenance and will protect the bike working bits, husband used to do mine, never showed me how but I researched and did it on two bikes
Been to cs and they most eagerly accepted the pile, looks as though stocks have run down a bit from a few weeks ago. Took the other kondo stuff to the tip, so am feeling virtuous. Dressing was pleasureable today, simply opened my wardrobe and easily picked fresh clothes out, including a skirt and a lovely salmon colour fleece jacket. I felt quite smart
Make up next, after my cycle ride. I have good lipsticks and don`t use foundation as my skin is good. Eyeshadow? now that is a different kettle of fish. Mine are powders and my skin is dry, so need a top quality couple of eye shadows that don`t crease. I have no interest in make up articles so have no knowledge and help is gratefully received0 -
I am struggling with ill health at the moment. I have a life long chronic condition and sometimes its worse like at the moment. Having tidied and downsized and got rid of things I find that it does make life easier.0

Can't help with the makeup I'm afraid Kittie - I don't own any, I've never been into it and don't see myself starting now. Not sure I'd know what to do with it anyway!
Just kondo'd a black sack of rubbish from DD1's room and half a sack of clothes (laid everything out and sent her a photo so she could pick what to keep)....it was far quicker than asking her to go through it all when she's home next.
Summer clothes have all been washed, dried and ironed and are now hanging in the wardrobes, I got rid of a few more lurking winter bits that I haven't worn and found a pair of linen trousers I didn't know I still had, they're too big and a very wide leg but I'll take them in and shorten them into something a bit more summery. I've actually put them on the sewing machine table so I might even get round to that this afternoon."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Make-up is one of life's great mysteries to me... Found a box with a few bits in it the other week and still haven't worked out what to do with it. I used to wear a few bits of the stuff when I went out - mainly due to pressure from my Mum. I honestly thought I'd binned it all years ago as I haven't worn it for so long, and am allergic to so much of that type of thing that it was always a bit like playing russian roulette.... Thinking of sorting out the stuff that seems OK - I think eyeliner pencils and eyeshadow probably last alright - and putting it in a box to go the women's shelter.
Managed to list 4 items on Fleabay this morning so fingers crossed they'll sell. I have about 3 boxes (and counting) of things I'm planning to try and sell over the next few months.....
Spent some time in the garage in the last couple of days and have managed to organise boxes into groups, eg christmas decs, craft stuff, diaries/letters/postcards, kitchen stuff and so on. Not made much progress going through it, but at least there is now some order to it, so it should be easier. Next step is to sort out the things I have in my flat into the same categories and then go through them KM style. Still trying to decide whether I want to get everything in the garage to sort it by category, or bring it all up to the flat. Either way boxes and stairs will be involved so I'm taking it slow and steady. Slightly freaked out to find another 30+ Cross-stitch mags in craft boxes in the garage - I definitely have a problem with these things!
My Dad is popping over in an hour or so to do another CS run for me. I think there are about 4 boxes and 3 bags of stuff for him to take - so I clearly have made some progress!0 -
OT, I am sorry about your ill health, well done you for getting all that done and preparing for the present situation.
. My daughter in laws mum has chronic ill health but did no clearing in the past, so everything gets dumped in awful places, like all up the stairs. Her energy is completely drained from her and consequently, she cannot get in anywhere to clean, so she does nothing
I think preparing for old age/ill health has to be a very important reason to be doing all this under whatever fancy name, kondo or whatever. Looks as though we have to be helping ourselves, more and more0 -
Hi, hope everyone is ok - apologies for not reading the thread, I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed of late. I need to jump back on the Kondo wagon, so to speak, as of now. I really do feel that being organized is the key to keeping everything else running smoothly and due to some worries, have let things slide a bit, which makes me feel out of control, so I get really stressed (doh). So I will charge in with my usual #OverDaTop manner and vow to do bedding and finish my papers by this evening - also let my guitar practice slip, which is really stressing me. I'm in a class above my ability and just for a bit of practice, I could catch up. There is no in-between class, so 2 hours practice needed a day, which is what I was doing. The others in the class have been playing a few years more than me, so I need to 'chill out'. Anyway, saying this out loud really does help me commit to. Sorry for the long post and I will try to read the posts from here on.0

Doing well so far, if the tidying magic includes
sending out end of month-end invoices,
Collecting painting from framer to kondo to friend tomorrow (he has done a great job for the princely sum of £15, inc mount, frame and glass),
sorting new gas n leccy tariff,
Collecting prescription that pharmacy had to owe me due to lack of stock ,
putting away dry washing and putting another wash on,
Mending a pair of earrings (clip on ones, clip had fallen off),
Mending hem on trouser,
and weighing out ingredients to make a cake for MIL.
Right, coffee break over, must mix up cake.
News flash -- DH handed me 3 t shirts for releasing!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
I changed my diet slightly this morning, carbs and proteins at separate times, also dividing meals so that I eat more frequently during the day. non-carb veg with any meal. Sleeping so much better and no acid reflux for well over a fortnight, in spite of sleeping flat.
I'd love to go low carb but struggle with lunchtimes and lack of a substitute for bread. I don't think I could face a large salad every day, especially in the winter, and I find that buying lots of different veg just for one isn't practical as it has a short shelf life. However I did find a web page which gives carb values for lots of veg and frankly, it's a bit of a shock. Most of my favourites (carrots, peas, sweetcorn) have a high carb content.
All carbs turn to sugar in one form or another. It's just the fibre in veg and fruit that doesn't turn to sugar (a fairly low percentage), and that helps to slow the conversion of starch to sugar. As for the myth currently doing the rounds that sweet potatoes are better for you than ordinary spuds, it just has more fibre. They say the glycaemic index is lower, but the carbs are higher.0
