KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Woke up feeling disgustingly perky today, about 80% recovered from the cold. Depending on how well the energy lasts, I have a plan to saddle ye olde pushbyke and swing by the tip with two boom-boxes and then visit the allotment - these errands can be done as a loop from home - and harvest some veggies. Haven't seen the lottie for 10 days and miss it.
Glad you're feeling better GQ

What veggies do you have ready? We have an abundance of rhubard at the moment and nowt else (but it is our first year on the site)Only overwintered stuff. Some leeks and some parsnips left in the ground and half-a-dozen Feral Chard (one ruby chard, the rest silver).
About 8 years ago, I planted a pkt of Rainbow Lights chard which, due to a holiday falling at the wrong time and me being away when there was a dry spell, bolted early that summer. When I got back to it, my chards had sprouted seeding stems several feet tall which were flowering and beloved of insects.
I left them in situ for the insects to enjoy and intended to pull them up before they set seed, but you know how that goes...... :rotfl:
That was in 2009 and the row was at the lower end of the lottie. Every year since then, chard germinates randomly on all parts of the allotment. The Rainbow Lights defaulted to silver and ruby chard, at a ratio of about 5:1 and, if they're not too much in the way, I garden around them and treat them as cut-and-come-again salad leaves which are available 12 months a year.
It's one of those delightful happenstances which sometimes occur. Dunno how much chard I have been able to harvest as a result of my initial investment of about a quid on seed, but it's my best-ever ROI.;)
Righty, off to w*rk in a min, laters, GQ xEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

what a brilliant result on circular kondoing MMF!
Not much happening here other than lots of small fleebay sales of SW books and magazines - was going to recycle the magazines but they have been selling brilliantly, so that's an unexpected result. Rest of stuff leaving is just day-to-day bits here and there, such as holey socks, broken coathangers, chipped glass etc.
April plans include an overhaul of the garage over the BH weekend (OH works away Mon-Fri normally, so we don't have much time for stuff like this on a 'normal' weekend) We had mice in Autumn so want to ensure all traces are removed and all shelving thoroughly cleaned down, as well as sorting out stuff which is no longer required. The guinea pigs live in the garage (hence the mice) and over the course of the year inevitably bits of hay and wood chippings get into areas not easily accessible, even though we sweep up every (well, most in reality....) day - the wind carries bits.
DS3 is off school today for the second day this week - he will be bored later on but has a chesty cough and I know school will send him to do (outdoor) PE and out for break and lunch playtimes and the wind and damp does not help him. Plus this week is bike/ scoot to school week and that is shattering him out as his lung function isn't 100% with the cough/ catarrh (uphill journey of around 1.7 miles) I have some sympathy with how he must be feeling now, as he has shared it with me - and I feel pants! My plans today are ensuring all children are fed at appropriate times and that there is ironed uniform for tomorrow (2 things need ironing for that) and that the kitchen is not a H&S disaster. And that is it

 I don't want to think about that - too many things still not done! Just wanted to say thanks for the bunny link, that looks so cute I might manage a couple of quick Easter gifts! It would be a brilliant thing to make when teaching children to knit because it only needs a garter stitch square, much more fun than the usual 'scarf for teddy'.
Sorry to hear this cough/chest thing iis still lingering - so many people seem to have had something similar. I thought I was fully recovered until choir practice last night when it sneaked out and caused me problems.
KM has definitely changed my mindset. I had a new patio a few years ago (too embarrassed to say how many!) and insisted on keeping the old concrete slabs as I was going to lay them between the beds in my veg patch. Every year I've meant to do it. It hasn't happened, and yesterday I let 20 go in response to a Freecycle request and told the chap to let me know if he needs any more.

I remember on this thread- perhaps an older version- that there was some talk about kondoing a husband, not sure how true that was, but still. In the past few years I've been kondoed by some members of my extended family, for matters which are as always somewhat petty once explained to others who lack the necessary emotional ties and history to understand.
Unfortunately, my being cut off isn't really turning out to be much of a punishment, I'm mid birthday season and frankly rather than sending lots of cards and presents and receiving some/none in return, or receiving no thanks, or a forced visit, I'm actually enjoying the reduced effort from not dealing with a group of rather joyless people who were only cursuraily nice to me at best.
I'm not suggesting cutting ties with your family but to be honest whilst it's a sad situation it's nice not to have to be around a group who are, were I to sum them up, "joyless". Not so much an MK creation, but using MK techniques has helped me to rationalise it. In the past Iwould have been "trying to make amends" and grovelling because "it's family". Well we live miles apart and they aren't very nice so maybe better we don't speak?!? Thanks Marie!Jan 20 - NST challenge

Large bag going to CS today. Have decided to donate to a different charity as the one with convenient parking seems to get more than they can handle at times. Looked on Fleabay for an idea for my unused Tpperware (used to work for them 40+ years ago!) so some is 'vintage' lol! Not sure - maybe list and if it doesn't sell send to CS. I'm finding KM is making me very realistic about whether stuff will actually be used now.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

me too and also about loft clearing. Brings back memories, all that stuff we saved for the children and never wanted. No loft here, just higher shelves in wardrobes which I want to clear, except for the likes of small luggage
I changed my diet slightly this morning, carbs and proteins at separate times, also dividing meals so that I eat more frequently during the day. non-carb veg with any meal. Sleeping so much better and no acid reflux for well over a fortnight, in spite of sleeping flat.
Been to the tip already and released one large nice planter trough, just too big for me to handle. Thses nice things are put to one side for anyone to take, so will be re-homed. Had to ask a man to help me turn the contents into the skippeople are so kind to me, really they are and we easily get chatting at these places, especially with older men, some of whom look quite lonely. Three more identical troughs to go,after spring bulbs are finished
Coffee finished, upstairs now to take those higher boxes down, carefully and havefinally decided to release two coats, both warm lands end coats, one a ski jacket and one a full length very warm coat that I last wore in 2010 when we had the freeze. I am pretty sure that I will be taking them to the cs tomorrow :T0 -
Morning all!
I'm after a bit of advice.... I've more or less done books and paper, but one of the things I've sort of ignored as I've not known what to do with them is cross-stitch magazines. I have probably about 200 of these  collected over about 15 years. I do love them they do bring me joy in terms of looking at them for inspiration and dreaming of all the lovely things I could make. On the other hand they make me feel guilty - there are so many designs I will never have chance to stitch so the space these mags take up seems a waste and they are just sitting there unused most of the time. Without cataloging them in some way I do struggle to find designs I like when in need of a gift (wedding and birth samplers for example).
So, my idea is this - I go through all the magazines and mark the patterns I'd like to keep (with a post-it note). I've done a trial run with a few mags and usually there's only one or two designs I'd consider doing so this is a relatively quick task. Next step would be to photograph the relevant pages with my digital camera, and then upload them to the laptop. I'm thinking of then putting them into folders (categories TBD) and saving a copy to a memory stick, and possibly google drive if space allows. I think as long as I'm careful to take decent (unblurred) photos I'd be able to print off a decent copy of any pattern I then want to stitch in the future. I don't have a scanner, so this isn't an option.
The other option of course is to cut out the designs I might use, but then I'd have all the paper hanging around, and as I almost consider them as reference books (rather than magazines) cutting them up just feels wrong to me. If they are complete I could either try to sell them or give them away to someone who'll appreciate them
I do know that I will never get to do all the designs I love and want to keep, so electronic storage seems like the way forward , rather than wasting physical space. I think what makes it difficult is that probably 2/3 of the stitching I do is for presents for others, so I can't just keep designs I would stitch for myself, and I never know what occasion I might want/need a design for....
Any thoughts? Anyone had a similar dilemma and / or got a better suggestion for what I should do with all these magazines?0 -
Had an unexpected Kondo day yesterday - it was great.
An uncle had really helped DH & me out @ the weekend so as a thank you I took him a nice couple of bottles of wine (& chompies for the dog). While I was dropping this off my aunt mentioned that their grand-daughter (15) was saving up for a sewing machine. Guess what I had under the spare bed. So sewing machine has been temporarily passed to a home where it will be used & I also passed over a pipe (still in box) which my uncle was chuffed to bits with. So stuff out of my house & the stuff will be happy to be used.

Lizzie you should be able to convert or save photo files to pdf on your laptop. Also, have a look on fleabay for pricing - I sold some random craft mags last year, much to my surprise.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
