KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

:rotfl: Siebrie that's made me laugh! Sometimes telling it isn't enough, the other person has to actually walk in your shoes for a few hours!
I'd definitely vote GQ for PM!
I'm finally getting my mojo back - pre-Christmas wasn't great for various reasons and I let things slip, but this week I finally got the Christmas decorations back in the loft (they never got put up, so I don't know why they hung around so long!). That meant I could put the clothes dryer back in the spare room and a few other things out of the way - suddenly I'm feeling the space and freedom that I discovered after Kondoing. Makes me want to carry on clearing.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
:D Guys, guys, your votes are appreicated. I promised not to kiss any babies on the campaign trail but doggies and kitties will get strokes if I get half a chance.
My manifesto will involve the immediate dissolution of the house of lords and their replacement, on a rota basis, with WI Ladies. All legislation will be subjected to the Common Sense Test and if it fails, anyone responsible will be sent back to primary school until they can demonstrate to my satisfaction that they are actually adults.Enough nonsense, I will have to try the Vicks thingy because after one beautiful night's sleep in the past 10 days, last night was hell and I was up most of it. I used the time creatively to finish a thriller but would have rather been snoozing.
Today is work then off to the parental homestead, arrival co-inciding with the evening meal. We're having bacon & eggs, apparently, which I like.
On Saturday, I have a mission to hunt yarn in the loft and may bring down choice samples for maternal assessment before the final selections are made. Me being me, it isn't actually possible to spend time in the lof without doing a bit of tidying/ kondoing but I can't do much as don't want to have all the heat going up into the roof space!
Plus I'm not up to much, healthwise, but that hasn't stopped me before. Hope everyone has a good weekend, I'll be incommunicado after this morning as the pooter I use there is poorly. GQ xEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GQ have read that putting V*cks vapour rub on your feet and then a pair of socks before you go to bed helps with bad coughs. Not tried it myself but if you or your parents have some lying around the house might be worth a try nothing ventured and all that xx0

Ha ha someone at work mentioned the vicks trick when I was suffering, it didn't work for me, but I did have cosy feet!😂
Willing to try anyone's trick for darned hot flushes! They seem to have started in earnest now and wake me a few times a night. So I have to get up for water and wee and put my feet on the nice cool tiles!😕 I used to work at Holland and Barret@ so know about sage and soya etc. But any wild and weird old wives tip will be gratefully received. Even as a cold person normally, they are the strangest thing ever, and usually involve me throwing off my clothes😨
Need to go and kondo the kitty litter then work. Have a good weekend all.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
GQ and others suffering from night coughs: spray a bit of water from a spray bottle above your head when you are already in bed, usually one or two squeezes is enough. Cheapest and best solution I've found so far
Some things need a little push to be kondoed

I am a chairman/secretary of a small management company, we manage the small communal carpark and surrounds. I suddenly took it over when my husband died as it would have been what he wanted. First agm was last year and second yesterday in my house. Thanks to ingrained MK, again, the files are now well and truly sorted with labelled dividers, I was nervous yesterday but it went like a dream and the minutes etc have been done. MK made me listen and in the future, all I will need to do is edit minutes and agendas to the current year. It is like she lifted a cloud away from me
In the process, I discovered some old stuff for a pc I got rid of a while ago, now binned. I think at the moment it is all about keeping tidy and throwing out what is not needed and I am talking paperwork. Soon the documents will start arriving for tax, so this time, I will have a dedicated polypocket handy
I could do with sorting lots of craft books and many craft magazines and selling them via ravelry but not yet as it looks tidy enough. I have two paleo recipe books looking at me now and I am going to cut recipes out as there are many I would not use. I need more poly pockets and will file the cutouts in a pocket file. The rest will go into recycling
It is still winter and I am still in hibernation mode, so am leaving major MK until the spring cleaning bug gets me and it will0 -
Finally I've got OH to investigate a DD that's been going through on an old credit card account we thought he'd closed, which then debits out of an old bank account barely used for years. It turns out to be some sort of accident policy long forgotten about.... fat use that's been then! A fiver a month since 1996...... Can't blame me, we weren't together then. I nagged him last January when I spotted it whilst Kondoing some old bank statements of his. He said he was going to sort it then but didn't. The amount went up by a few pence which drew my attention. Turns out info about the policy has been going to our old address 15 years ago (we did redirector for a year), and the credit card statements have been going to his spam box.
Ho hum, they're going to send him details of the policy cover to find out if it's worth continuing with.Make £2025 in 2025

Hi everyone,
I tend to pop in and out of MSE and am currently doing a lot of reading on Minimalism. There are clearly lots of elements of that in this thread so thought I'd fill you in on how I'm getting on (if that's ok)
I wouldn't have described myself as a hoarder until I recently realised I had NO spare space anywhere in the house and there were lots of things without a place to go. I realised that in the 17 years we've lived in the house we don't seem to have thrown anything out (well not mindfully) however things have continued to come into the house.
I live from payday to payday and regularly drop into my overdraft. I have a credit card debt of £3,500 (ish). Since reading up on minimalism I've been paying more attention to my spending habits. I have realised that every payday seems to give me the green light to buy something....anything...! I seem to think that I have earned the right to a new pair of jeans or top or shoes because I've worked for them - this is all well and good if it weren't for the fact that my wardrobe was bursting at the seams. I just seem to buy things for buying sake (eg, a little hanging heart, a tupper ware container, a mug, a pen....). I've noticed on my bank statement in November that I spend £47 in HB@rgains . I can honestly say I have no idea what I bought or where it is. It clearly wasn't necessary!
So, I had a massive clearout a couple of weekends ago. I loaded bin bags of stuff and took them either to the skip or to a CS. I put some things on ebay and made £40 then made £50 at a table top sale. I'm paying a little off the CC everyday by rounding off my current account balance (eg if I had £11.73 in my account I will pay £1.73 off my CC). I started doing this on 25th January and have paid £22.79 off so far - I usually just pay the minimum payment set up on a Direct Debit). I've started to draw out a set amount every pay day to save for Christmas.
The house is looking so much better, the cupboards above my bed are practically empty - I've thrown out so much bedding it is unbelieveable. The kitchen counters and all flat surfaces are completely clear of anything. The bookcase has about 10 books in that DH wanted to keep. We've got rid of all DVD's (we don't even have a DVD player and subscribe to Netflix for everything we could possibly want to watch. Keeping the house tidy is getting easier and easier. I'm still picking things up everyday and throwing them out or ebaying. The family have a running joke about making sure they keep moving for fear that I will bag them up and ship them off somewhere.
The house is starting to look lovely, in the evening I can sit on the sofa and enjoy a couple of lit candles on the fireplace that aren't obscured by other things.
Getting rid is definitely the key.
I hope its ok for me to bob in and out occasionally to keep me on track and for you to give me a telling off if I start to slip! Thank you and keep going xAF since 10.04.11
