Ran out of DH's favourite grated Parmesan & the SM only seem to have piddling tubs at extortionate prices. (Last big tub bought in Aldee) I remembered I had some in the freezer so defrosted last night and put through the grater on my mixer - full tub and two bags back in the freezer for refills.

My mum does this, buys blocks of cheese and then grates them and freezes them. I thought it was mad as grated cheese seemed to cost no more than the blocks of the same weight, but I now realise this stops it going off or getting mouldy, and there's always some on hand for sprinkling on top of dishes

    :) Afternoon all.

I've made a spontaneous decision to go visit my parents after w*rk on Friday (they're fine with this, I always give enough warning for them to get a locksmith out in case they want to revoke my keyholding privileges). Was just joking with Mum that I wasn't going up the loft this time and she seemed disappointed - aparently I need to truffle for wool for her next knitting project.:rotfl:

But I won't do a lot more than that, as I'm not well and she's not brilliant either, so I envisage a nice quiet weekend chatting and hanging out and playng with the cats.

The messenger bag I laundered has come up lovely and I will take it to the hometown and leave it there until the Easter weekend when we shall try carbooting. Will take a boxed mother's day gift as well, as I can hide it up over there. When you don't have your own transport, you have to be well-organised with logistical issues.

  • I'm an avid freezer-er of late and can recommend freezing cheese, especially grated, it's so easy to chuck on or in cooking. I use it mostly for scones or even to make a toastie. Ther's usually a good glut of YS cheese boards come January which stocks me up for a while.
I have decided to tidy up and possibly say goodbye to a jacket. It fell apart almost right away and is held together by my repair stitches, has some paint splashes on it...it was reduced to £26 and wasn't even worth that given how flimsy it's been, but I got 6 months wear from it and don't want to wear it again. I have to say that's it's a very joyless item all told, so it can spread some cheer in the ragbag.

Aw, GQ, I'm glad you're going to the parents' place, have a lovely relaxing time.

I'm kondoing myself to my mum's old house too, for a week - kondoing paperwork and the contents of the airing cupboard (all towels and sheets) as an absolute minimum.

DH and I are currently enjoying a wintersun hol. We are staying in a little apartment with a private patio in the grounds of a largeish house. The apartment is best described as a large bedsit with a seperate, good size shower room and toilet. I am currently in retreat from strong sunshine, having snorkeled this morning (it's a hard life). I looked round the room wondering if I would stay here for longer if we came into money :rotfl:
....Although we have travelled light-ish the only things i miss are a few kitchen utensils (self catering, and with the value of the pound being rubbish we are cooking more rather than eating out every night).

I have quite a lot of possessions at home but am managing just fine here with only the basics :D
Something to consider on our return, unless we win the lottery, in which case i am staying here forever :rotfl: :rotfl::rotfl:
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.
  • Yikes! Everything is out of my cabinets as we are remodeling. DS2 is encouraging me to weed out while it's all out. I love my kitchen stuff whether I use it on not. Lots and lots of Justin's. This is going to be agony! The thing is...and I'm not sure I've seen this addressed...what if everything you pick up brings you joy? This is a monstrous dilemma! I need expert and not so expert advice. You don't have to be gentle.

:) Hi mila, nice to 'see' you again.

Re finding joy in all your kitchen stuff.......... keep it. Seriously. If you have the space and the purpose and it brings you joy, just keep it. KM isn't (at least I think it isn't, having read the first two books) about sacrificing all material goods and living like a monk or nun.

If you didn't have space for the stuff and ended up with it in boxes in the garage, there might be cause for concern, because it's unlikely that any person would be fetching stuff in use from a garage and returning it, and temperatures in there might be despoiling items.

If they'll all go back into the remodelled kitchen, if you love them and use them, it's a no-brainer. Keep 'em until they don't meet those criteria (which may never happen) and then you can KM.

:D I have had a whole eight hours sleep and feel ever-so-slightly better than yesterday. After several days of feeling a bit worse each day, this is indeed a blessing. The great thing about colds is that one day you won't have it, and that simple fact will be the cause of much joy......:rotfl:

Only managed to kondo 6 things from dads. :( all that stuff and only 6.....

1 large globe, 2 boxed games compendiums (1 never used), 1 jigsaw, 1 small game, 1 book.

My brother was getting anxious but I wouldn't let him see and I doubt he'll know what's gone apart from the globe, which wasn't his.

I am hoping that knowing I am going to carry through my threat might inspire him to start sorting it..
I wanna be in the room where it happens

It may be 'only' 6 VJ's mum, but it's 6 things less for next time... Are there small items you can smuggle out in your bag?

There are lots of my dad's things to sort out that I know my mother would like done rather than waiting until she dies. One of which is a coin collection. I'm not entirely sure how to dispose of that. I think there may be a stamp collection too (mind you, that may at least in part be hers!). Neither of them are likely to be catalogued nor are they likely to be particularly valuable but I need to check. Oh, and then there are all his vinyl records... mostly classical. Again, they need sorting properly in case there is something interesting in amongst them.

    :( B*mmer, VJsMum, b*mmer.

Can't remember what deadline you gave your brothers?

I could easily be tempted to give up at Mum & Dad's, they've lived in the same small house for 46 years, the place is rammed and as fast as I get Stuff out, more Stuff seems to appear.

Howsomever, I persist (I'm stubborn like that :o) and a few areas which were sorted like the Bedroom Cupboard of Doom and some cupboards downstairs, have stayed sorted and Mum remarks on how easy it is to find things in them.

I encourage her by pointing out that all cupboards could be that way, but she'd still need to reduce the volume of Stuff in the house by about 80 % to make it truly liveable.

Can't see that happening, but will just keep pecking away at the bits I can, whatever I can do now will be something which won't have to be done at the worst possible time (bereavement).

:p Have discovered that 8 hours of sleep doesn't cure the hacking cough, which is a disappointment.
