KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I gave all that bedding away this morning and they may well use it on two hospice beds as it will brighten the rooms
It wasn`t easy and I didn`t have that magic feelgood factor. I arrived home and made a cup of coffee, went on the internet, looked at my e mails. I have an e mail from premium bonds, I have won £125. Are my angels telling me something?
That'll be the woo at work again!

yes, it is brilliant greent. I always knew about the giving/receiving cycle but I got a bit stuck lately and givng today seemed to set me back on course. I received the prize gladly but more than that my energy and feelgood factor is fully back with me. Stuckness has gone, completely gone and my chi is at work again and I am back to being in balance0 -
the cabinet and contents were gone! There is breathing space in that living room!

I got the pooter working (dad's pooter) so can now join back in the fun.
Hello and welcome to lala1974 and any other new peeps I've missed. Wow, kittie, you're on a roll and the universe has seen fit to send some good fortune your way in return for your generosity.
I've been lofting, from mid-morning, and dragged down a lot of coned knitting yarn (some wool, some blended, some acrylic) and lined it up in the living room.
Mum sat in her armchair and arbitrated whilst we discussed the fate of each yarn by cone. I had to do the burn test on what felt like wool and it crumbled to ash with no trace of oiliness so we think it's a pure wool. These are cones bought 2nd hand and many don't have any labels.
Upshot of decision-making is; two part-cones of wool (one greyish, one mossy green) 4 ply will become a stripy sweather for me. Two pairs of 4 ply cones will become a sweater for Dad and a sweater for Kid Bruv respectively. A lovely jade cone is reserved for a cardigan for Mum.
Several part-cones are being wound off and will be used for knitting hats etc for donation.
I'd used the hatch hook like a boathook to hoik a trad style suitcase from up by the gable end. Its metal catches seem to have have rusted shut, so it's having a wee think about it with some oil. If we can get it open, some of the keeper cones will go in there, with a label on the outside and a note downstairs.
Three cones have been deemed too pink and will go carbooting. I have also been allowed to evict two appliance boxes from the loft, have been able to take so odds & ends of yarn for my own projects and ... drumroll..... went through every single place the yarn lives (mostly in those giant tartan laundry bags) and finally found a ball of the chunky yarn which was used to make Dad's fave sweater.
It's wearing out at the edge of the cuffs. Mum will take it out of circulation for long enough to re-knit them. All in all, a pretty productive sesh.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Well done GQ. Nice that your mum has some plans, but is also willing to part with stuff she knows she won't use.0

Yup, it's very pleasing.
Between us, we've wound off seven cones and the cardboard cones are going in the recycling, the yarn will be weighed and put into clear plastic sandwich bags with a note of the weight and the type (ply, blend if known) and stored like that. This will make a fast selection possible when choosing wool for future projects.
The suitcase has got one catch open and one still seized up. It's been oiled and I shall leave it overnight and hope that it will ease. We've got the keys, but this catch seems to have rusted up inside and won't open even when unlocked. We shall see.
The cheerful fleet of cones are now lined up on the rug, much to Wild Thing's disgruntlement as she likes to sprawl there. Cat's got the wit to have detected that there is only one pure wool rug in that room and that the one she favours.:rotfl:
Tomorrow, I may see if I'm allowed to borrow their car and do a dump run (am on their insurance btw) as there's a large quantity of stuff for ragging and bound to be some metal etc. I haven't bothered asking yet as I want to keep everyone [STRIKE]lulled into a false sense of security[/STRIKE][STRIKE][/STRIKE] err relaxed and chilled out.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Good thinking that woman!
Mum couldn't resist the conundrum of the suitcase catch. Think real old style metal suitcase clasps, the kind which you unlock, push a 'button' sideways with your thumb and the latch springs open.
Except the button wouldn't go properly sideways on one. I got bored in the end, jammaed the business end of a screwdriver under there and hit it a couple of times with a hammer. Brute force and ignorance saves the day again.:rotfl:
The suitcase will go back in the loft tomoz with a bungee cord to hold it shut - will be storing coned yarn. Improvement over what it was storing before - fresh air.
I also brought down some other yarn, including some proper expensive sock wool, which had got it with something else, and a bit of machine knitting for something started years ago, which is now unravelled. As it meant I had some black 4 ply in hand, and there was a cushion repair job that needed exactly that, I also did a mending sesh. Took all of five minutes and removed a niggle.
The rest of the family are settling in to watch telly, something I don't much care for, so it'll be a quick pootle around the web then an early night with a good book; D0n Aslett's Freedom from Clutter.I could probably recite parts of it from memory after all these years, but one needs to polish one's decluttering skills, doesn't one?

On a roll with the books. .......taking a box full of work books to work. ...They might as well be there than anywhere else. Although that means I will need to cull some books that are there already:( Got a box of books I am going to try and sell and another carrier bag of books for CS.......finally got rid of some of my initial degree text books. Kept a couple as I feel a connection and they have attractive spines:rotfl:
OH managed to knock over a large picture frame that l had unearthed from behind the filing cabinet.........I had plans to make use of it but now the glass is broken.......don't know what to do now - get rid of frame or buy new glass? Uuuurgh!
Debating whether to clear some shelves in office that stores stationary etc. Most of it will be used but it just looks untidy at moment.........But there are other pressing things to be done.....Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi
