Tumble dryer: never owned one. Love my washing line dried and will get it out there even for an hour or so!
Dishwasher: I am ashamed to admit, here is an appliance I would not be without!
I have never had a TD either - glad to hear I am not the only one, as most people look at me as though I am mad if I admit this
Managed to bring up 3 children without one, and see no point in getting one now they are all grown up :rotfl:
Dishwasher - I do have one, but not sure I would bother to replace it if it went kaputt.
Curtains also mentioned, I bought one (cheap ready made) new pair for OH's den 4 years ago when we moved in, as the window is an odd size. Other than that, I have a pair that was left in the house when we bought it, a pair made by a friend years ago for a different house, a pair bought at a car boot sale, and another pair, from a charity shop. I do have one other, spare pair for the main bedroom which I bought new, but years ago for a previous house. The bathroom has a roller blind which I bought new and the loft conversion has velux windows which have built in blinds which I have never bothered to change as they look ok. Most of them are old, but I like them and they look ok, so why bother to buy new?0 -
I know the process for KMing our whole house will take a long time but I'm getting a buzz from each sub category and each tidy drawer / cupboard...as well as the bags of clothing leaving our house.
Finding long periods of time whilst working full time with kids is challenging but I'm taking every opportunity - KM'd my sweatshirts and DS's PJs, trousers & sweatshirts this evening.0 -
Happy to help anyone move their ladies for them;)Sorry to rain on your parade but unless you find where/how the mice are getting into your attic/house......the next family are very likely to move in. Speaking from experience....we took advice from a pest controller and he told us we would probably be fighting a losing battle as we live in a 150 year old house in a rural location with lots of tiny nooks and crannies - perfect for rodents:rotfl: And he was right..........so we live with the scampering noises and make sure anything in the attic is well wrapped/boxed up and we use traditional traps and poison - sorry ! to keep on top of them. Not loads of mice...but enough:D
Agreed - and there are usually more than you think. I've cut down all the climbers up my walls and filled lots of holes since my last infestation. The loft insulation has also been removed and replaced - it was full of tunnels, dead mice, nests and mouse poo. I certainly wouldn't keep anything up there. There had clearly been massive infestations in the past (before I moved in). In fact, there was mouse poo on most windowsills the day I moved in... and the climbers all went right up under the eaves and into the roof. Don't be so sure that catching 2 mice means you've got them all - keep the traps out until the bait stops disappearing.
Re. Curtains - I have only recently turned the kitchen curtains from my last house (which were the kitchen curtains from my parents' FIRST house) into cushion covers. My mother and I are constantly moving curtains around between us and between rooms (we both moved 2 years ago, and are still making changes).0 -
Curtains, a pair my mum made for her first flat went up in my living room with the ex-bf, then to my next living room and are now back at his as they don't fit in my current place
I refuse to get rid of the curtains I'm not using atm, they may well be needed or indeed loaned out to others as needed! Not at all the kondo'ing spirit but they are cream with big cheerful cherries on them, def joy giving
Knackered myself yest rearranging the bedroom, went to bed at 8 hoping I would sleep through but woke about 1.15. Still it allowed me to be a sympathetic ear to an insomniac friend so is not wasted. Currently pinned to the bed by two snoring cats so will plan my attack on the next stages of kondo'ing:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -

Our oldest curtains are in our bedroom - DH had them made for the bachelor flat he had before he moved to Blackpool in 1989, and those in my study came with a house I bought back in 1986.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Goodness, I'm feeling very unthrifty - all my curtains are new in the last nine years! I'm trying to recall why I didn't move them from the last house, the windows were a very different size and I had Venetian blinds at most windows.
It's taken me 8 years to get curtains in my kitchen, I couldn't find a fabric I liked at a price I wanted to pay (I needed more than 10m). Thanks to my sister donating some leftover fabric from her curtains and managing to match it in Dunelm they are made ... but I fell into the trap of 'ooh, I'll hang them so I can check the hem length after the creases have dropped out'. They are on the jobs list to be taken down again and hemmed... It's only been about 3 months! :rotfl:Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Hi everyone
Curtains - we have mainly the beautiful velvet curtains which were in the house when we arrived 16 yrs ago and they were up quite a few years before that with original owners who had had them made (they build the house in the 70's). One pair has had to be mended where the lining was giving way. What it would cost to replace them I dread to think!
However, I must admit to a dryer and a dishwasher, both of which I would not of liked to be without when I did paid and carer work. But both are quite a few years old now.
A few pages back there was a mention of decision making, and with KM woo I realise that has been (one) of my problems - decision making fatigue - especially by the end of the day. Consequently KMing is going(!) better and and lot of other areas of my life as well. Amazing.
Take care - H.0 -
No dishwasher for me. I did have a table top one which was handy when my kids lived at home. They must have had an allergy to Fairy judging by the number of mugs and plates found in their rooms, but sometimes managed to put their dishes in the dishwasher. However my OH managed to kondo that after a house move when it was stored on the garage, waiting to be installed. Since then we manage fine with one of those sponge things on a plastic handle filled with detergent.
We have a tumble drier but it's only used to fluff towels after indoor drying. Roll on spring so I can dry stuff outside.
I belong to a crafting for charity group. We were gifted a lot of wool recently and I ended up with balls of fawn and white. Not very inspiring colours, but I'm turning them into squares for blankets for Syrian refugees in Turkey. I don't suppose they care about the boring colours and mixed together they're not too pale. Kondoing them as fast as I can!
My most emotional kondo was childhood soft toys. In a bag under the bed were my old panda, elephant. Golly and rabbit. They made me sad and were very worn. But as I held the panda with stuffing hanging out, I felt love.so I patched him up, knitted him a smart new jumper and now he lives beside the bed next to his old friend Teddy. I managed to dump the others and haven't regretted it.0 -

My youngest daughter was the only child of mine that got attatched to the teddy she had from childhood and although she didnt miss it when he went missing i learned by my Mothers mistake. AG Bear was presented to her carefully washed, brushed and with a clean set of clothes on on the day she left home. It is her decision as to whether she gets rid of him. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
