KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Great link.
I'm at Stage 4, I reckon.
Went to the chazzer after work with a donation bag and a rag bag (clearly labelled as such). Bought some fruit and veg whilst out and spent £1 on two items of clothing - GQ falls off the wagon with a clang.
In my defence, m'lud, one was a wrap dress to replace one of the two wrap dresses I virtually live in, and was on my hunting list, as it's to replace one which is fast wearing out.
The other is a very useful long-sleeved tee which has dark gray and black stripes. I'm very fond of stripes and, in those tones, it's very versatile, and much more joyous than the top which left in the donation bag.
ETA; previous owner's toiletry bag in your loft....... that's just wierd, isn't it?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'm at stage 4 - mostly!
Whilst I'm not getting rid of any job (I acquired 2 (very) part time ones last year) I did get rid of WI committee position role (and WI) and PTA Treasurer (and the PTA). I'd love to reduce the treasurer work I do for a local small charity but I need to find someone to step in first - and to do that I need to get it all up together first - so with this part of my life I haven't reached stage 4.:( However, in clearing out so much other stuff I'm hoping to free up time and mental energy to deal with it - and then pass it on. Am happy to still volunteer, but as a' general minion', not a key role! I don't want the responsibility - hence why I got rid of my other roles. (That also then just leaves me part of the committee for a local festival.... ever get the feeling I had major problems saying no?
- I'm getting better - have since turned down suggestions/ offers of PTA role at a different school, schools appeals panel and schools governor)
I love KM in principle - and will be so glad when I'm fully done! (as such - 4 kids will mean it's an on-going process but that will be manageable)

Hmmm, I think I'm mostly around stage 4, with some cycling between 3 and 5 as I remember more categories to sort! I've found it difficult to sleep in rearranged room, feels quite exposed now, what with being single glazed windows 2m from the pavement.... I'm sure I'll get used to it:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0

I don't think it would be possible for you to move somewhere smaller. I'm pretty sure there are caravans bigger than your flat. Maybe a tent?I'm at stage 4 - mostly!

My dad was given a terminal diagnosis 2 weeks ago. Almost the first thing he said was "I'm resigning from the Parish Council". If you don't enjoy this jobs, quit now.0 -
VJsmum, I feel we've been on this journey with you! A bit of p-t work is good during the transition period, and you can Kondo it later.
Ouch, those comments about committees etc really struck a chord! And Greenbee, I'm sorry to hear about your dad.
I managed to get rid of one committee some years ago - I knew someone else would step up - but I'm involved in a local group which is doing my head in, we have lots of people with opinions but nobody wants to do the actual work. Two of my friends have just resigned and so I don't feel I can go as well, but it's become something I dread rather than enjoy. The overall objective is something I wholeheartedly support, but like you Greent, I'd rather be a minion not a committee member. I'm clearly not alone in this sort of struggle!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Welcome to the 2 newbees. I have finished KMing my home. It is an ongoing journey to stop unjoyful things getting in.
I needed new comfy shoes and found 2 pairs in H$tter o they were great. One pair was reduced to £20 and a second pair £27 worth the wait to find them.Very comfy and just what I had been looking for.
I KMed my job 12 years ago when I retired and wonder now how I ever had time to work. When you tidy out the unjoyful you soon find replacements that you will love and suddenly you just know what is right and what you will use or wear.
Just returned for a few days in Glasgow and I love the shops there. OH got a jacket for £6 ( the price tag said £349 !!) and 2 pairs of trousers for £5 each ( £89 each) from the M&S outlet . You can see why they didn't sell at the original price. But they fit perfectly and he was pleased.
Will brave the high winds and rain here to meet up with my friends as we do every Friday. 10am in the local hotel. It's my birthday and might get some pressies but we just do eating gifts so maybe cake or wine for me:T:beer:0 -
:bdaycake: HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRUNNIE!
Wow, serious bargaineering there. Did you get the shoes from their own store (I've never seen them reduced anywhere near as much as that) or was it some kind of special outlet store?
Righty, off the hit the streets, blowing a hooley out there atm, hope everyone stays safe. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Happy birthday grunnie!!!!
I'm so sorry about your dads diagnosis greenbee hugs
No kondoing going on here today but I have cleared even more books out so the bookcase is now half empty and I'm going to use it to store my hair and make up stuff, bookcase is in the bedroom.
This process hasn't just tidied my house it's saving me loads as well. I am so surprised at things I wouldn't have thought twice about buying before I'm now looking at and going nope no joy there and putting stuff backkonMarie and fabbing all the way

Sorry to hear about your dad's news greenbee. This type of thing always puts things in perspective, and we do need to try and make every day as joyful as possible.
Wishing you a very joyful birthday Grunnie - hope you don't get any unwanted pressies
I am continuing to KM my possessions. I just wish I could train my OH to be a bit tidier, he doesn't seem to understand that items need a home and should be put back when finished with.
I am a recovering shopaholic...trying my best not to go overboard with new items, and only buying items that bring me joy now. I return to work in April after a year's maternity leave, so have bought a few new items, but will only be working part time, so won't need very much. I had binned a lot of work clothes and shoes that no longer sparked joy while I was pregnant, knowing I wouldn't be back at work for a while.
Working part time, so a significant loss of income for me, but precious time with my DS is what life is all about at the momentI'd love to get our mortgage overpaid as much as possible, but will focus on that again in a few years when I go back to full time working. Time to kick in to MSE mode...will need to get meal planning and batch cooking!
