Hmmm, I think I'm mostly around stage 4, with some cycling between 3 and 5 as I remember more categories to sort! :)
Me too ... I don't often cycle to Stage 3, actually, as I'm determined to downsize, but I go *up* to Stage 5 because each piece of kondo-ing I do makes me deliriously happy :D

My dad was given a terminal diagnosis 2 weeks ago. Almost the first thing he said was "I'm resigning from the Parish Council". If you don't enjoy this jobs, quit now.
Ach, greenbee, sorry to hear this :( but I admire your dad's forthrightness. I hope his determination gives him much longer to go, and to enjoy himself.

    Grunnie - Happy Birthday.

Greenbee - Best wishes to your Dad.

    Take care everyone. H
  • Greenbee - sorry to hear about your dad, but also happy that he is doing what is right for him now and not what is right for everyone else.

Having a terminal illness does put life into perspective.

It happened in my life, when my OH was diagnosed too, albeit over a decade ago.

    Happy birthday Grunnie!

So, in the middle of my revising (which is all I seem to do these days - looking at the long term picture) - another bag is going to the local chazzer shop.

After exams - will be going up into the loft and have a good KM session...

Have a good remainder day all...

So sorry to near of your Dad's diagnosis Greenbee - Hugs x

Polly - maybe at your next committee meeting you could say that you no longer enjoy what you are doing? Sometimes it's just what the other members need to pull their socks up when they think you could be resigning?

Had a small joyful moment today -I bought so emushrooms to make soup and some more of my knickers have been Kondoed in to the container - small things ;)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

:( Sorry to hear about your Dad, greenbee. I hope that his time remaining is as joyous as possible.

I came in from work, showered, put a washload on inc work duds, and have spontaneously tidied my misc kitchen drawer.

I tend to think of myself as having only two kitchen drawers, the one under the sink, and the other one. I swopped cutlery into the undersink drawer late last year, and the slightly wider drawer became the misc drawer.

There is actually a third drawer, if you could call it that. It's about 8 inches wide by 3 inches deep and hidden under a corner of the work top where it's almost impossible to open and where you cannot see the contents even when it is open. I keep a very few rarely used things in there out of trouble.

This misc drawer holds things like rolls of greaseproof paper, kitchen foil and clingfilm (the latter will not be replaced when it is used up) plus tucked-away-for-further-use things like brown paper bags from the market and some strong plastic bags from the rare occasions I buy frozen veg. I do use these paper and plastic bags, and the amount of them was modest, but the contents of the misc drawer was always inclined to riot and turn into a total mess.

Darlings, with the aid of three of those hinged, lidded grape punnets, I have contained everything neatly and opened up acres of space in there. Positively joyous.

  • I'm curious as to why you're not replacing the cling-film, GQ?

:) I'm aiming to be less wasteful in my habits, so not using throwaway plastics, including plastic film. I don't use a lot of the stuff, the present roll has been with me for almost a decade.

Just came off the phone with the folks. I think my rootling around in their home over Xmas-New Year has gingered them up a bit because some spring-cleaning/ redecoration type things have been started.

In their 3rd and smallest bedroom, the textured wallpaper has detached from across the top of the window - I mean the edge of the window reveal up to the ceiling - and couldn't be re-stuck, so it was removed entirely and the wall cleaned up. There is no more of this particular pattern left and it isn't on sold any more, but there are a couple of part-rolls of a different pattern of textured paper (a/glypta knock-off stuff, the type you paint over) in the loft. These match the living-room.

Mum's decided to use some of that to make good the deficit in the bedroom and re-emulsion the whole room. She was speculating as to whether the rolls would have died in storage (this kind of paper can stiffen up and then crack when you attempt to unroll it for use).

I remarked that if it has died, it's a sunk cost of about 20+ years ago, and it can go into the recycling. And they can amply afford a single roll of textured paper from Bee & Queue or wherever. And if it hasn't died, they use some of it up.

And, and, because I was tidying in their loft last autumn, I could tell them to within an inch the whereabouts of this paper, the pasting table and the pasting brushes. I'm feeling the Power of the Woo.:rotfl:

Three days in a row no sight, sound, or catchings of mice; dare I be hopeful?

Clearing the attic (slowly) yielded a box of clothes that fit dd7y perfectly. They have all been hung up to air. The colours are all very light and cheerful, and I have immediately sent most of the current lot to the attic for dd4y's future wardrobe. The colours of that lot are all a bit dark, kaki, and similar, which I don't think is really nice on a half African half European girl, but it was all we had, and we hid most with cheerful cardis. I am glad the clothes-circulation system is working!
