    :) Morning all.

Hello and welcome to libellula84 and Flylady_Flower, good to have you posting.

Procrastinator, where I have textiles with elastic like undies (as does fitted sheets, although I have only flat sheets myself) I actually cut the elastic out before putting them in the rag bag. This is because I think that the rags will be chewed up in an industrial process and that the elastic will be a nuisance. I also cut out the crotch of knicks, cut that into small pieces and bin it. It seems a little too personal to be out there in public, as it were.:o I remove buttons and metal trimmings. Buttons are sewn on cards, if good condition, and then added to a button tin which can eventually be given away. Buttons seem to go well on freegle.

Loving all the curtain tales, and am remembering that there was a door curtain (50p jumble sale) which I had a my last flat and didn't need to use at this one, but which Mum took custody of, insisting she would use it. She hasn't in 10+ years, and we did mention it at the September loft clear out, but I didn't drop my hands on it. Thinking on it, I'm sure I know where it must be in her loft, and she has agreed it can go, so I will drop my hands on it when I can and re-home it. Just hope it hasn't died in storage.

I've been very busy this week, day and evening, and haven't done much around the homestead. I did experiment with a new habit, which was to set the kitchen timer for 5 mins before getting ready to bed, to see how much tidying I could do. It's amazing how much you can achieve in 5 mins and makes the place soooo much more welcoming the next morning.

I'm continuing to read my way through the doorstop-sized Xmas gift books, and several of them will be going back to kid bruv the online bookseller (I told him at the start that I didn't want/ intend to keep them) and he can sell. Think one of them is even a loaner from his inventory.

ETA Xmas cards - if you can get them to M & S before the end of Jan, they have collection bins for these for The Woodland Trust.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Procrastinator I know all the cs around where I live take rags, any kind of textile that isn't good enough to sell, as they get money for them. I always sort my rags into a different bag from things I think they can sell and let them know it's a rag bag to save them sorting through it.
I spoke to DH about the tumble dryer yesterday and at the moment he will not budge on getting rid of it. So what I might do is be a bit sneaky and next time he's away working either put it in his man cave or the garage. If he wants to keep it then it can take up space in his areas not my kitchen :).
The curtains we have are the same ones we bought when we moved in here 17 years ago, I've just moved them about when I've changed room colours. I am going to replace the vertical blinds in the living room this year as they were here when we bought the house and are broken and very tatty looking now

Lolly - love your cunning plan re the TD. ;)
Most CS take rags but check. Like others on here anything that is past its date or too tatty goes in the bag and labeled rags so the CS staff don't have to go through it.

  • Hello
Thanks for the replies, took the bag in today, forgot to ask about the towels, they are still here so will ask next time. Will try and get to m&s tomorrow with the cards, there isn't one local to me but there is in the next town where my friend lives. The lovely lady in the cs said they take old shoes for recycling and I know there are several pairs that need to go so these will be in a bag for next week, just have to get ds and oh to confirm I can take theirs. Have looked in my room and need to start the cull but am worried, where to put it all whilst working. Realised that is why the ironing board went up before but having taken it down don't want to use it again. Have been out all morning so will have some lunch and go and look again.

    Age UK take rags.

The pair of socks I'm wearing will go in the bag later, big toe has made a hole this morning, and I'm not going down the route of darning socks. Life's too short.

Had a tidy of airing cupboard, it's been kondoed but thought I would try rolling towels ( I usually stack them ), I found a box to put hand towels in rolled upright ,bath towels are on their side wedged by the box.so I will see how that works it looks nice!

Went through jewellery all of it is costume. The real stuff is just my rings which I wear all the time. Got a large sandwich bag full ! The earrings I binned as I didn't think they would be taken by cs.
So now all my necklaces are hanging in a semblance of order. The wooden tray with compartments in the wardrobe holds earrings in the front 3 bracelets in the next 3 and the back 3 are for little used items and poppy pin etc. I'm really pleased with it :j

Hello to all the newbies glad to have you on the kondo journey, hope you reap the same rewards we have found.

  • If there is no Age UK in your area - most supermarkets these days have a clothes bank - I've been advised that I can dispose of my rags there - just ensure that the bag is labelled rags. HTH

I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • The loft!! :A
After getting rid of the OH's undercrackers I decided that the loft was getting a doing!
( I haven't went from clothes to personal items, my undercrackers were kondoed long ago!)
I feel confident that I would be objective and it was amazing how easy it was to quickly go through all those things that you put in a box "somewhere else" because you dont want to deal with it!
I have taken photographs of a few funny/ sentimental cards etc and the rest are out!
I have kept any cards etc that OH might want but I suspect he will be bemused by the fact they are still there.
Valentine's day, what's that about!!?? Lots of cards, teddies and fake roses. Perhaps the CS might want them. We are still talking to each other so don't need to keep this stuff to look at fondly...
Weird loft items found: creepy toiletry bag (previous owners)
A humidifier still in the box - freecycle methinks!
