KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Probably one of the largest changes from MK for me is that I no longer have to pack away clothes at the end of a season, everything fits in the wardrobes now (admittedly I am fortunate enough to have two double wardrobes to myself). It means stuff gets used a lot more, as it is still so mild I'm still using t-shirts and cardigans that I might have put away.
On the other hand I don't get the thrill of rediscovering clothes as Wee Midgie says!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
I've always been intruiged by the winter/ summer clothes swopover but my lifestyle doesn't seem to make it necessary as, apart from a very few very light or vey heavy clothes, I wear the same stuff in all seasons.
Yesterday afternoon was shirt-sleeve weather when gardening, phenomenal for the last days of October.
Today's plan will be to head allotmentwards by mid-morning. It's presently foggy here but should get out later. Tip run, bag up more grass, dig through a bit of ground and plant Nan's broad beans. Have no idea which varieties they are (they're at least two kinds because they are 4-seed and 6-seed varieties) but they are reliable performers. I'm far enough south to overwinter broad beans and, as well as making the harvest a fraction earlier, they seem less prone to pests and diseases.I also need to do some tidying up at the very top of the plot as the neighbour over the back has finally, after a decade, dealt with the mess and tumbledown shed on the top of their plot, which means that where our plots join is now wide-open-Wednesday plus my side now looks bad by comparison.
Don'tcha just hate it when that happens?!:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Well the tiling doesn't quite meet up in line, never could, because the professional has done the rows on one wall a good half inch lower than the other. So short of taking a wall of floor to ceiling tiles off I am stuck with a misalignment as I was only patching so 'my tiles' already had a line (ie, adjacent to those around them,). I have previously, many moons ago, managed to run 2 rows slightly upwards by making tiny adjustments with each one (a common tactic with very uneven walls and dodgy angles in old houses), no-one noticed.
DH says this misalignment is not noticable to a man on a galloping horse but luckily we don't get many of them in our bathroom :rotfl:
I am pretty sure that once I find a suitable loofa or similar adornment the problem corner will be disguised. Luckily they are plain white tiles of matt appearance and are textured, and we have white grouting so the dodgy corner is much less jarring than it might otheriwse be
kondo-ing housework today, definitely need a good vac round! Joy today will be cooking and then admiring imrpoved bathroom and clean house :rotfl:

I'm up in Scotland and the winters tend to be chillier up here. No chance of shirt sleeves outside yesterday! So far, I've only had a smudge of frost on my windscreen the once. My heating has been off, but only thanks to the winter woolies, and due to being thrawn about handing my hard-earned to the gas company!
'Re clothes space, I have one built in wardrobe with approx 5 feet of rail, and a dressing table with 2 half width and 2 full width drawers.
I'm taking a leaf out of GQ's book and storing some duplicate clothes. A couple of years ago I bought four pairs of jeans, because they were substantially reduced. They suit my shape and were being discontinued. I'm retiring next year so for the future they are a good investment.
Just having a cuppa, then it's time for a dump run, cardboard and some garden rubbish.0 -
Have been to the bottle bank. I think if I go once a day for a while I can clear the backlog - there are a lot of jars, not just bottles
And I get my mixers in glass bottles too when possible. I just wish there was tetrapak recycling in the village as well.
I've also been pointed to this site for donating clothes/toiletries/makeup etc. They take stuff that some CSs are unikely to - in particular they'll accept part-used toiletries and makeup (except mascara and lip gloss). So I might be able to cull my nail polish collection0 -
Today we've been to MIL's house and put up a handrail down her stairs. She'd been coming down backwards one step at a time as there was only the banister on one side to hold. After a battle with some of the screws not wanting to go in properly, we got it sorted, so she was getting up and down stairs much easier when we left, so that was our good deed for the day.Make £2025 in 2025

:T Nice one, slinky, such a thoughtful thing to do. I expect she is very happy that her life is now easier.
Been gardening and have chatted to the folks on the old telephone. They've decided they will feel rested enough to come up to the city next weekend with the things which are coming from Nan's life into mine.
My acquistions will be a microwave, a standard lamp, two CD players *, a hand-cup and a few other bits and bobs. There are also some random things from her garden to mine, including metal poles, but they can wait for another day, such as in the spring, as the car will have to be vanned for them.
Mum said Dad is getting keen to get through the Stuff as quickly as possible and I can empathise with that.
They did have a peep at some boxes which we stashed in their shed last weekend and retreated. There is some brassy stuff in there, tarnished brass. I've told them to throw it all in my direction, including the leftover Br@sso from Nan's cupboard and I will polish it up and turn it out to the chazzer in sparkling form.
* I will play around and choose one of the two to keep, the other will got to BHF. It is Justin but my own CD player is 19 y.o. and may not be long for this world.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hello all back from Hampshire and trying to get head in gear for work tomorrow as well as tearing myself away from DDIL and DSS and of course gorgeous new baby. Scrumptious. I'm only a step grandma and I'm in awe, smitten, head over heels, the lot! We have worked our backsides off since Friday morning. DS has dog sat this weekend and done a Stirling job. Even made a cup of tea when I texted we were home and stripped bed and put it in washer and dryer. Hard not to be suspicious as well as appreciative. We learnt a lot about ourselves and the Kon Marie journey. We still have a way to go I'd say but we're heading in right direction. I have not readied myself for winter but allotment is, if not garden. BIL gave me some more garlic and some climbing French runner beans, they'll keep until Spring with runners from allotment neighbour. I'm used to apologising my plot away. I can't compete with retired folks. I just know I love every moment up there on the plot. I wish DIL and DDS so well but don't envy them at all. I will ALWAYS give permission to ditch anything inappropriate given by us to leave. Unlike the pigs! Are these ladies still friends Mrs M? Been catching up since our return. Must go before fall asleep on iPad. Found a box so have been putting together a parcel for Give & Make Up. Airline amenity packs, plus spare toothbrushes from ones that have already gone elsewhere, lots of sanitary stuff I no longer need, opaque tights I no longer use, a couple of fleeces, as scarf I don't wear, lots of hotel body lotion and soap that comes home with me and doesn't get used, bits of makeup I no longer need, a couple of nail polishes I never user, kids pants that are too small for them from the 'spare pants' box (most probably never worn!). Box isn't quite full so I'm going to leave it open and in the way for a bit. I like the fact that they're happy to take used toiletries/makeup (except mascara/lip gloss) and second-hand clean underwear - most of the stuff in there wouldn't be accepted by the CS, so it's a great addition to the KM options.0

I have a WIP package for them too, will be including some expensive larger cup size bras that are far too big for me since being poorly, and already put in cleansers, body lotions, manicure stuff etc, but have a lot of OPI and Nails Inc mini polishes, many unused as I cannot be fiddling around with the teensy brushes (most came as parts of sets or gifts. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.
