KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

VJs mum sorry about the toe. This year I have been learning a bit more than I ever wanted to know about the process by which fractures heal. Apparently the osteoblasts (bone builders) go crazy and throw everything they've got at the fracture to join the gap as quickly as possible. Then the osteoclasts take over and do a refining job in much slower time. (one reason I didn't want to start taking bisphosphonates - seemed crazy to interfere with that process until it was complete) . But anyway you should be able to walk on it without too many problems in a surprisingly short time, and any residual twinges will go away in time.It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

When ever I hear that proverb it reminds me of the Dorothy Parker quip when challenged to come up with a sentence including the word "horticulture" quick as a flash she said "you can lead a wh*re to culture but you can't make her think"
Love a play on words........I'm pink therefore I'm spam........always stuck with me since A level philosophy days;)Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

My brother is delivering a CoD today (he saw my parents at the weekend, and as he has a van they took advantage!). It's a very pretty if somewhat tatty 'brown' CoD that my grandmother bought second-hand. And means I'll finally have some drawers in my bedroom. This should help me get a bit more organised, and also help with decisions about a wardrobe and possibly a new bed.
It will look lovely if you paint it - if you use chalk paint and wax, you don't need to sand it or strip it first, and you get the on trend shabby chic look.... just sayin'0 -
Evening all.
Sorry to hear about your broken toe, VJsMum, and here's hoping we won't have to rename you Hopalong (sorry, couldn't resist). Reminds me of a convo with two women who had spent most of their lives as outdoor activity instructors. Their idea of a little light exercise involved climbing Alps, abseiling, white-water rafting etc etc.
Sooo, I asked, what was the worst injury you ever got? I was expecting tales of derring-do with life-threatening injuries sustained in perilous places. Guess what? One had broken a toe falling over her own coffee table and the other had wrenched her knee slipping on grass when playing rounders with the kiddos in her back garden. And those were the very worst injuries.:rotfl:
Most accidents happen at home, apparently. I once fell into a bath tub and ended up black and blue from hip to knee. I've been thrown off a galloping horse with no injury and then came a cropper in me own bathroom. Doh.
Been to w*rk today and made it back safely to my den of iniquity. No armed police around it today, for the 5th day running, so that was good.

I was thinking about special occasion gifts today.
One category of Stuff from Nan's bungalow was filling a shelf in her sitting-room - golden wedding stuff. You've all seen these sort of things, I expect; fancy plates and other glassware, all to fancypants to use but not exactly objets of high art or craft. Just the kind of thing you get given for a landmark wedding anniversary or a landmark birthday.
I mean, what the heck are you supposed to do with those giant plastic keys for your 21st?!:rotfl:
Anyway, the shelf contents are going to the chazzers who will be thrilled, I'm sure. And I recalled the golden wedding gifts from two more thoughtful of Nan & Grandad's circle; 50 golden daffodil bulbs from one and 5 golden rose bushes from another.
Straight out into the garden and gave many years of pleasure. I think all but a few of the daffs may have been lost to attrition in the interim but, and this is the really fantastic thing; they were joyous, they didn't need dusting and the family haven't had to move them.
I won't be around online tomorrow, will be out and about for about 15 hours with Nan's funeral in the afternoon. As Dad says, it's a sad occasion and a happy one, all at the same time. She had 93 mostly-happy years and we will remember those together. I shall be wearing her velvet scarf and her gloves in the church, which is always perishing.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks, hun.
I am nominally a christian of the c of e variety, having been baptised as an infant, but have no faith so the religious ceremony doesn't comfort and one is left with being in public when emotionally distressed. Which I hate.
But it's what you do.
Have pulled out my smart dark clothes including my beautiful black wool coat, polished my shoes and sewn up my trouser hems. Am as ready as one can be, all is left is to eat sensibly and get a good night's sleep (students notwithstanding, I'm sure their families would be horrified to know how they carry on).
Onwards!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hope it goes well, GQ. Focus on the happy memories, and take comfort from the people who've come to say goodbye. A funeral is the last thing we can do for someone we love - grief doesn't end there, but it's a staging post on the journey.
A propos of accidents in the home. I dislocated my kneecap (doing some permanent damage) and spent six weeks on crutches a few years ago. The cause? I caught my foot on the flex to the Hoover. Housework is dangerous and should be avoided!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
My thoughts will be with you tomorrow GQ,
