KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I am going to make a big banner from a spare wallpaper roll. It is going up on the bedroom wall. It will read:
DOES THIS SPARK JOY?
WOULD YOU PAY GOOD MONEY FOR THIS?
MEMORIES ARE NOT MEMENTOES.
…….…...
Good idea, or just a wee bit crazy?
P.s. WHY THE F**K DO YOU STILL HAVE THIS?I like the idea, personally, whatever works for you.
Something I nicked off a blog I used to browse was The Lost or Stolen Test.
As in, hold up an items and say to yourself; if this were lost or stolen, would I bother to replace it?
The possible answers are;
A. Of course! I love it and/ or it's critically important to my life.
B. Emm, so-so, could live without it, not really bovvered.
C. Not on your nellie, ellie!I am quietly convinced that many of us could be burgled of some of our cupboard contents and, as long as it was done tidily, never actually notice stuff had gone missing.
Have cut the allotment path, with shears, all 33 meters of it. Two IKEYA blue bags ready for a tip run tomorrow and probably an equal quantity of cut grass waiting to be bagged. So lush up there due to the warm, wet weather. Plenty of weeds to kondo.
:j The marigolds are looking particularly cheerful, too.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

16 pair of unloved socks and two pair of never worn still in the package panty hose to thrift center.
7 lonely socks without a mate went in the trash can. At least they have each other now.
One drawer sorted...not many more to go.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Since redecorating my bedroom in the summer I've been trying to decide what to put on the wall above the bed - a photo maybe, a bit of my own art work perhaps, something snazzy done with wood from the garage? I just couldn't make up my mind. Yesterday the answer presented itself in the form of a 6ft wide, solid pine, Welsh dresser "top", it was on a local FB selling page for a quick sale at a silly low price, I offered 1/3 less and an hour later it was in my hallway!!
I have a bit of a thing about wooden dressers (I currently have 3 and they bring me untold joy) - this top section will negate the need for the book case taking up room in the hall, it will provide some shelf space for a few special things I'd like to display and means I can rotate a few photos and bits of artwork that I'd like to see more often. Whole lonely socks can be donated to Vets or dogs homes. They are used to cover paws to prevent scratching wounds or surgery scars.0

Ooh, Pooky, I have dresser envy. I'd love one, never mind three, but nowhere to put them, sadly.
Been chatting with the folks. They've all gone down with stinking colds, which I attribute to stress and overwork, so have been resting today and just gently packing a couple boxes of Nan's stuff for donation. Her former belongings are now dispersed to chazzers in three market towns, and this city, which means they are in two counties. Funny thought, that, but not upsetting.
Aunt says their council have been working on the bungalow, so I expect that will be re-let soon to new people. It's a bit upsetting to her long-standing neighbours, who were dear friends of seventy years' standing as they've lost her and also will be getting new neighbours, which can be a bit of a worry until you find out what they're like.
The folks tell me that the Stuff in their home is thinning out as it gets carted out to various charity shops. There are still some bags and boxes which had to be put into their shed(s) as they came over, but Mum has instructed that the Stuff already indoors be processed before they are brought inside. The good news is that The Queen of Sheba (one of the two parental moggies) has got over her huge huff about the recliner swopover and will now sit nicely with Mum without fidgetting.
The old recliner which we tipped last Sunday gave up the following from its bowels as it was dismantled; a toffee (wrapped), a cable needle, a sewing needle and some bits of yarn and a 5p and a 1p coin.
Heck, ain't no one gonna be retiring on that haul, hey?:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Just nipped upstairs to check out the wall tiles and the border tiles. They are still there and the added bonus is that I realised I had enough tiles to cut 4 more pieces to repair the horizontal bit at the end of the bath. There was a bit of a mess and holes when some pipework was removed. Pieces now adhered and looking dandy. Will grout all tomorrow.
Also managed to be creative to re -do another bodge job by professional that had been hidden until now. Can't wait to see it all grouted up! I have got my diy mojo back
DH has just txtd to say he's setting off home. Just hoping the hard hat is not coming back too!
So tiles kondo'd, leftover bits wrapped in paper in bin, grouting tub will be emptied and out of here tomorrow. Dilemma about what to do with tile cutting gadget. Chances are I won''t need it for at least 5 years , prob A LOT longer! Instinct is to offer it free to first person who will collect. Have to convince DH that it has served its purpose, saved the money of getting tradesperson in, and brought joy to me by making the job straight forward.
Right, cup of tea and copy of Private Eye to be kondo'd now.:)

Fen I like your style!
Pooky that is a great idea, I love it, although for a moment I thought you were going to put up Fen's wallpaper poster!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Mrs M , the pig story made me laugh as I am an avid collector but have pulled in the reins a lot. I have a few sentimental ones that are worth pennies that I will not part with such as one bought by nephew who is now nearly thirty- he spent all his pocket money on it when little and would not let my sis buy it so he could get sweets! I have two pocket size pigs that come travelling and drink beer wherever I am. When I met a uni friend he was chatting about it and when they appeared from my handbag he was roaring with laughter... More so this was 25 years since he'd seen them!!Don’t put it down - put it away!

Today was swap over day - winter clothes liberated from my one suitcase, and summer clothes packed away in their place. Both categories subjected to the Kondo test = half a black bagful for the local Red Cross shop, and two items too far gone, so will go for rags. This is about the third kondo of clothes, but the first at seasonal crossover. This will become the clothes kondo routine from now on.
I'm quite relieved it all fits in well, as I had kondoed a chest of drawers in the summer. The solution has been to hang up bulkier jumpers & cardies in the fitted wardrobe, leaving finer jumpers & polo necks for one drawer in the dressing table. Not quite at Project 333 minimalism yet, but editing what I have has led to better co-ordination and fewer mistakes.
Also, every time I swap the clothes over, I unpack old friends I had half forgotten about and have the joy of reunion.... as good as a find from the shops, but much more MSE!
I felt sad a couple of weeks ago because I couldn't find a cardie, and thought I must have culled it. However, it was simply lurking under a jacket hung up in the wardrobe. I know MK says clothes should be the first category to sort, as there is less emotion attached to them, but I'm very fond of some of mine. Would be gutted if they were lost or stolen. So I reckon I've kondoed down to the essence clotheswise, of what sparks joy, and as a result decisions about what to wear are so much easier these days!0
