Anyone else find it hard to round up all the 'little bits' after a clear out, particularly if those bits are very random, need some attention or are 'ponents to something which doesn't exist any more?

:rotfl:Yes, at the end of a sort out, I ALWAYS end up with a small pile of 'things and stuff', which in the past has ended up in a little bowl or basket, and then more random bits get added to it until its overflowing! I think its worse when these things belong to someone else who isn't there while I'm sorting stuff out.

But lately Ive been trying to sort through even those things -

    A balloon? Don't need it!
    Half a pencil? Burning pile!
    2p? Kids money box!
    Trolley token? Handbag!
Nail/screw/hook? To the shed with you!
One earring? Find the other one!
    Button/pin/needle? Sewing stuff!

It is kind of annoying though!

  • Ha! I wondered why the bedroom was bugging me so much, I've kept the big areas clear but the C-o-D had gathered some stuff. A USB charger plug for the car, some plastic bits for gawd knows what, a magnifying glass, some eyelets that belong in the craft stores - how the heck did they all end up there?

    I think komono is a never-ending category.

Hope everyone is well, I'm just about to head to paid stuff but wanted to mention there was a couple of page article about someone being kondoed in the daily mail this morning along with a sort of book review/interview I think as the lady who was done actually had Marie kondo helping her. Haven't had time to read it yet but will after work.

    Have a joyful day all.

Is there anything in the catalogue that you know someone else needs? Or is it full of aspirational cr*p that has no useful function?

Perhaps he feels it may cause offence to his employer / colleagues? He can always ebay it and use the money towards something he wants / wants to do.

it isn't even the offence thing - his boss / colleagues would likely not even know. it is full of stuff that reads a bit like the Generation game conveyor belt - a barbecue, a drill, a ladies bike, some perfume set thing, fondue set, cuddly toy :rotfl: (Ok, I made the last two up)

I think he will get something and sell it, that's if we get round to selling it.

So, my OH, has come in for a 35 year long service award :T

He got a carppy plastic plaque thing and a catalogue from which to select a gift. In times gone by the carppy plastic thing would have been shoved in a drawer but I notice it is on th e side for recycling /binning :T

He can't find anything from the catalogue either and I suggested he just says "I appreciate the gesture but there's nothing I need". He did think about it, but decided that that gesture would be lost so is getting something for the sake of it :(. I guess we Can sell or re gift....

Pity they could not have got you vouchers for a meal out or towards a weekend away or something he, and his long suffering wife(!) could have appreciated.. may be something consumable....

VJ's Mum - a company I worked for used to do the same sort of thing. I actually asked my HR department if I could have some vouchers to an equivalent value as there was nothing in their 'goody list' that I wanted & I bought some garden lights! One of my colleagues also had a long service award of a gold watch which was supposed to be inscribed (value plummets immediately!) so she asked the jeweller to put a little plaque on the box instead with the dates etc. There may be a work round if you ask?

ps: I was once heading a very successful project that saved the company shedloads and a got ..............an engraved perspex obelisk:eek: I did manage to smile sweetly while thinking of where it could go :rotfl:

If push comes to shove, do you have a charity you support you can ask them to make a donation to instead of lumbering yourself with more tat?

    Hi all :waves:

I moved house almost a year ago and really, really need to get stuff sorted. I need to declutter at the same time, so want to give the KonMari method that I've heard so much about a try :)

First up will be clothes. I have a couple of days off next week, so intend to sort through them then.

I just have a question about the method. What do I do if my current clothes don't spark joy, but I don't currently have alternatives?

For example, I've recently bought a new pair of PJs because my others were old and worn and/or I never liked them. So I'll keep my lovely new pair... but I like to have a spare pair for when they're in the wash. Do I keep one of the other pairs even though they don't spark joy? Or does the method say that if I want another pair, I have to go buy some that do spark joy?
