KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I moved house almost a year ago and really, really need to get stuff sorted. I need to declutter at the same time, so want to give the KonMari method that I've heard so much about a try
First up will be clothes. I have a couple of days off next week, so intend to sort through them then.
I just have a question about the method. What do I do if my current clothes don't spark joy, but I don't currently have alternatives?
For example, I've recently bought a new pair of PJs because my others were old and worn and/or I never liked them. So I'll keep my lovely new pair... but I like to have a spare pair for when they're in the wash. Do I keep one of the other pairs even though they don't spark joy? Or does the method say that if I want another pair, I have to go buy some that do spark joy?
Keep whatever you need, lots of things may not be particularly joyful, depending on our lifestyles, it might be pj's, underwear, warm clothing, waterproof boots. Adapt it to suit you and if there is a choice between items to be disposed of keep the most joyful or thing in best condition. When you go to buy anything new, if at all possible don't bring anything into the house that doesn't spark joy. I think there will always be exceptions to any rules, make it work for you.
Life is not static, when you are going through things, you will probably find somethings that gave you joy/pleasure previously, don't now, our tastes and needs change overtime. Enjoy the journey, most of us get a great feeling of lightness and freedom as we go along this road. You don't have to impose a time limit on yourself either, some here have whistled through in weeks, others of us will take months/years.:D
ETA - most of us now find that we will not settle for second best, we will wait for the right thing, rather than buy something that will just do for now.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

We eat loads of cauliflower rice on low carb, probably 4-5 times a week. Substitute it all sorts of places you'd eat pasta, mash and rice.
Have to say we prefer our cauli in large pieces and usually with a cheesy/bacon/sauce a la Hairy Bikers
We recently bought hamster baskets for organising our chest freezer. Had dithered for about a year before finally spending the money, but they really do make it a lot easier to store food and find things. Hopefully there will be a lot fewer unidentifiable frozen lumps going to waste in future.
I just need to remember to keep a sh@rpie in the kitchen and label the containers!Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

One of dh's t-shirts was frayed at the neck, so I have put it in the ragbag in the attic. We are still trying to catch the mice there, yesterday all the traps were empty of peanutbutter, and unsprung, one hour after putting them up. I am still hesitant about poison, though.
Several metal items taken to the tip/recycling centre.
DH finally put up the full length mirror. I told him he could only go to his friend after he'd put it up. The mild blackmail seems to have worked, I should try it more often:rotfl:Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -

You'll need those special Siberian Hamster Baskets for the freezer, not the regular kind. And no, I don't know what a hamster basket is, either, and I used to keep one.
I enjoyed the DM article with Marie Kondo. Isn't she a darling wee woman, couldn't you just hug her, she's so cute? And it was interesting how the journalist remarked that people finding out she was meeting KM were more excited that anyone had been in her 18 year journalism career when she was meeting famous actors, musicians and other celebrity fauna.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
