KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

  • Our project this year is getting rid of the pantry at one end of kitchen and moving dining table there. This involves kondoing or relocating everything in there. There are 5 of us which means a lot of coats and shoes so need to come up with joyful solution to that...thinking drawers under our bed can house the out of season ones. Hubby did get rid of 3 pairs of shoes and a hat though which will help lol.

I just KMed my favourite dish - it's in bits after I dropped it. I am making pickled beetroot after I found a row of them in the garden when I went out to dig up some leeks for soup yesterday. This dish was in the shape of a beetroot and made me smile everytime I saw it and it is probably about as old as me as it belonged to my late mum. So a trip to the shed to find a few jamjars to wash.

OH, who is a lot tidier and more organised than I am is going through 35 years worth of photos in albums:D The quality and storage life of these photos from basic point and click 35mm camera is awful, so not many are being kept, and the acetate sheets in the albums have deteriorated too, so sadly look like being put in the refuse bin. The pics that have made to cut will be re-filed in the better or new albums. Don't have a scanner at present, and would have to teach OH to use one (he is the only person I know who can type no faster than when he first started about 30 years ago:rotfl:), so that would be a no-no, I just don't have the patience:p

More clothes and shoes to the CS yesterday and think I am ready to let 2 more pairs of boots go (my ankles are completely shot and I have been told by physio not to wear any shoes/boots that don't lace and give ankle support for anything other than looking decorative:rotfl:) expensive and much loved black leather knee high boots and black Cloggs ankle boots I think your time is marked. I have been trying to find a suitable replacement that I can wear with my leggings/skinnier, but really don't want to pay full price and nothing turned up in sales so far:(

Dont you just hate it when that happens....its never a dish/cup/glass etc which you are not bothered about.....the downside of KM I guess - everything you own is 'joyful':( But great find in the garden......climate change surprises;)

Ohh Grunnie - how sad to lose something that gave you Joy :(
Maybe a trawl of the CS might turn one up - or fleabay.
I bought 3 tops in Sansbugs last week and only got round to trying them on a couple of days ago. 1 was perfect - the other two didn't fit quite right. In the past they would have languished in my wardrobe but they were returned yesterday ;) I'm not giving space to something that doesn't earn its keep!

So........first things.......fill the bird feeders as they are all looking very pathetic fluffed up lined up on the branches of the trees!

I have just discovered that a few ounces of Nyger seeds make rather a mess when the bird feeder is dropped onto the kitchen floor:eek::rotfl: I think I will be finding the pesky little things for ages.

I re-filled the fat block and fat ball containers yesterday afternoon, but decided all the feeders for loose seeds, nuts, etc. needed a good scrub, so did them and left in garage overnight to dry, didn't make a very good job of putting one back together and it dropped apart when I was passing it to OH, still gave him a good laugh which can't be bad.:D

I hope that you get to enjoy a mountain walk soon, but so understand the joy of having a clear day to oneself to wade through some of the sorting etc.

:) Been out and about on errands and a quick visit to a friend up at their shop (well, had to stay for a cuppa so not that quick, lol ;)).

Have dropped off a donation bag at the chazzer, some punnets for re-use at the greengrocer (and got some fruit and veg) plus recycled the stuff which needs it. Going to have a blitz on the kitchen and the sitting-room after lunch, haven't been home much and place is getting disordered.

Had a brainwave last night and am now using the very small c-of-d which formerly held the cassette tapes which I decluttered and have re-purposed it as a dedicated sock storage facility. I found a holdall of surplus socks in the parental loft when I was tidying in September, chucked them back down the ladder to get them into use, and they got no further than the bedroom.

Sorted through them at Xmas and some were no good but most are OK, so they've been given to me, about 30 pairs. I have been wearing a pair each day, as they had got ever-so-slightly stale in storage - I'm cursed with a very acute sense of smell, so don't like this. Once they've been worn and washed, they are going into the little chest for use. Have only found one pair which was DOA and will be in rag recycling.

Have also got my finger out and gone to the haberdashery and got the extra-wide elastic to re-do the waistband of a pair of trousers which have been out of use for about 6 months. Now I've got the stuff, I'm running out of excuses not to actually do the job.

The Spark Joy book is very interesting, btw, am still reading it. Will give a fuller book review later on.

  • Hi everyone! Not much Kondoing this week as I'm on a phased return to work after long term sick. And it went really well! I did kondo my work drawers....oddly enough the stationery cupboard is fuller!
This year I want to reclaim my fitness and my garden. Both wrecked at the moment but I'm getting there!

GQ - if any of the socks prove less than joyful, they are one of the most needed items for homeless shelters (or possibly any homeless people you happen to pass on your travels).
