Hello everyone. Was on here a few times last year, I read the book, did my knicker drawer, did most of my home in a couple of months. I never looked back.
My home is clutter free, cleaning is a breeze. I spend about an hour in bed on Sunday mornings with a pot of coffee and a pile of toast catching up on you all, I laugh and cry with you all every week.
I am happier, calmer and total stress free, I don’t give a fig about anyone or anything. I'm polite and courteous to all, and speak to total strangers on my walks with my lovely dog. Surprisingly they all smile and usual mutter something in reply. Life is great.
Last year I walked more with my OH and dog. Visited local National Trust places. Visited local towns and generally spent time out in the fresh air. My spending was down as I didn't buy stuff for my home or myself and family.( I follow the NBI thread to) I saw amazing sunrise and sunsets I saw nature for the first time as I really was tuned in to life around me. Instead of charging around like a blue a**ed fly.
This is all down to a funny little book from Japan. Our Kondo leader has a few wacky ideas but they really do work . No, I don’t empty my handbag everyday but I do thank my things as they leave the house. I talk to my car and my house and the dog.
So all the newbies and those's that are a bit stuck I say keep at it. My recommendation is do the categories, I found if I did a drawer or room at a time, like our Leader says it rebounds on you and you'll find yourself keeping things that don’t bring you joy or you will find you have the same items all over the house in different places.
Finally to Fen1 go enjoy your holiday, it might be a trip of a lifetime it may be the first of many, I hope it is. Enjoy, relax and be happy.

Tea lady - as a newbie to this thread that is really inspiring. Thank you so much!

Will do. It's a year since I read the original book so a refresher is a good idea.
Doing your knicker drawer is amazingly satisfying. Don't be surprised if you find yourself repeatedly opening said drawer just to admire the results. Even days or weeks later - this is normal for kondo-ites. It's a quiet pleasure which never fades.
At Mum & Dad's, where I was over Xmas, I was pointed at a couple of problem areas which had heavy usage and were very inefficiently over-stuffed and untidy. One was a kitchen cupboard which, once everything was outed and the cupboard given a wipeover, was much better.
Some mugs and glasses were donated to the chazzer, another mug brought back into regular use where it quickly became a favourite, and there was actually space around the items remaining. I still can't get over opening cupboards in that house and not having things fall out on me.
Today's cunning plan involves working then a quick trip up to he central library for my MK book. Have a good day, folks.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Welcome to new Kondoites, so much help and support around here, not to mentions "loads of laffs", it is a great place to hang out.
Loving the positive reports, Tea Lady, Mav and VJsmun (sorry if I have missed anyone).
It is cold and sunny here at present and forecast to be so most of the day, so I will be continuing with shoes and trousers in my bedroom (it has a cold aspect so need a sunny day to have enthusiasm in there). As things are discarded (more because of being too big than lack of joy) they are leaving the house in a steady flow to the CS where I volunteer, the manager is pricing many of them quite high and lots seem to be selling at these levels so all good:D. If things go really well in the next few days I hope to be dealing with the Komono in there, it would be nice to see some clear surfaces and would encourage me to keep it nice and perhaps be safe to burn a nice candle occasionally:o
I have a mental list of items needed to fill gaps in the wardrobe, I think I will commit it to paper too and hopefully they will appear - the woo factor at work would be great:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

May I join? I have lurked on this thread for a long time...and am loving all the pieces of advice and lovely chatter.
I've started doing a category at a time, in the middle of working and studying! Exams in March....
I have converted OH in the KM way of working and going through my clothes bit by bit.
Hopefully, by the end of this year will have my little home as it should be.

Hi everybody...
I was around under a different user name but I had to move suddenly over Christmas and can't get into my account....so new year, new start!
I kondoed a huge amount of stuff before the move, but I'm still overflowing and I've got 2 garages of stuff to come yet. We've gone from a large 3 bed to the tiniest 2 bed ever, so I absolutely have got to be ruthless getting rid of it all. I'm tired and low on motivation at the mo, we moved on New Years day and I went back to work on the 4th so the house is a tip
I have to be OS with money as well this year, I ran up debts moving and am now a single parent so only one wage coming in.
But the sun is shining even if its freezing, so I feel a bit like doing something today!0 -
Hello
Clear, bright and sunny here but bliddy cold. Just come back from walking the dog. Its windy out on the top of the hill where we walk but beautiful, watched a couple of red kites (birds) circling around, lovely to see.
Not much to do today, so I'm going to watch the test cricket on the TV and snuggle on the sofa with the hound.
Dinner to get ready later then in bed by 8.30. Work in the morning, up at 4, work at 5. It’s a tough life.
Be good
T lady.
