I have thrown out some old dried herbs. It seemed a good idea at the time to buy lb bags, but I prefer cooking with fresh herbs, or just a pinch of salt. I like the 'real' taste of a veg, for instance, without mixing it with other tastes and smells.
I have just made my own crispy muesli in the oven, using up a small bowlful of muesli. Twice more, and the bag will be finished. Have you ever tried making your own? It is super simple and so much tastier than the readymade cruesli.

    Morning kondoers.

Spent last night cramming the contents of our room into other nooks and crannies of the house. All we have left is a bed and bedside cabinet, the room looks huge now, both of us said we had the best nights sleep in ages. I know we can't go this minimal we do need clothes etc but we've both said clothes will be revisited before they are allowed back in the room. Everything else will be vetted on its return as well and it's usefulness and joy enhancing will be questioned.

So far, I've dysoned up lads of grey dust that was in its former life the foam backing of the now deceased carpet. I'm now washing and sanding skirting ready to do more glossing. This has been on our to do list forever but it's only now we are kondoing stuff and revealing space we can see the home needs some decorating and tlc.

Hoping to get the glossing in the bedroom done this morning before work.

    Have a joyful day everyone.

  • Imataloss you could be describing my wardrobe before I discovered MK! I had a very bad habit of putting stuff in carrier bags, especially when visitors were coming, thank heavens that is a thing of the past - I still have some craft UFOs in there but I am working through them one by one.

I still look round and think the place is untidy, but your mention of carrier bags reminds me how far I've come!

Thank you PollyWollyDoodle it`s good to know that I`m not alone. It`s going to be a slow work in progress for me but at least I`ve made a start. Craft UFO`s are another thing completely!
I have already decided where I`m going to store my yarn and craft stuff when I`ve cleared the shelves in the spare room wardrobe.
  • Thank you greent
Yesterday was a busy work day (I work from home) but I managed to shred another couple of bags of paperwork/receipts. Have post for my DS - so that`s been put into a folder ready for when we visit at the weekend.
My workstation`s looking a little tidier now.
Today I need to tackle the bag of odd socks that haven`t been touched for at least 12 months. Plus the reusuable bags from the supermarket. Just how do you tidy them?
Have a good day all and well done on your efforts.
  • Having tidied up him mum's shed Mr VP brought a large number of bin bags and carrier bags from the shed to our house to be sorted. Now usually this would have resulted in them festering in our garage for eternity. However Mr VP is sorting it all out. I'm helping as well as he has the same hoarding tendencies as his mum.

So far we have found what appears to be every card she has ever been sent including the ones congratulating her on Mr VP's birth, he's now 56.

This does mean that he is not sorting out any of our paperwork. I've come to a halt on the attic as I am helping him with his mum's stuff but it does mean that it all save us a job further down the line.

Mrs Veg Plot - I can relate to the cards issue as well as the Good Luck cards from 12 years ago. I also found the congratulations cards from when DGS was born (he`s 7) and yesterday last years birthday card from DH.
I know that in the wardrobe there are also cards from special birthdays, wedding and DS and DD births.
    Haven`t ventured that far yet.
  • Good Morning!

Birthday wishes and virtual hugs to all who need them!

I've been missing for about 10 days as broadband wasn't up and running until Friday, so it's taken me that long to catch up on all the Kondo-ing that's been going on. I've enjoyed GQ's adventures over the bank holiday!:D

My move was a complete nightmare!:mad::mad: I think if I'd been moving my entire house full of furniture I'd still be there. :( As it was the move spread over two days as they didn't send enough people/packing material and too small a van, and the boss wasn't answering his phone. Thank goodness for a very understanding buyer!!;)

Anyhoo, I'm here now and getting on with the unpacking. Half the boxes weren't labelled, so:eek: I've had to open them to get an idea of the contents, marking them up and trying to prioritise. My friends have been very helpful, I'd still be in a right muddle without them.;)

Right, cuppa finished so back to the mystery boxes!

    Love SP xx
Note to self: I'm a human being, not a human doing! 😊
  • Skirting is finished, wardrobe pelmet and airing cupboard door have had their first coat of gloss but will need another.
Found some bits for the mins game tomorrow, most embarrassing is the catalogue that was under the ottoman because a castor broke off one end - it was put under there as a temporary measure until we got round to repairing the castor. The catalogue is dated Spring/summer 1998:o

    Homemade cruesli:

    - switch on the oven to 150C
    - take a bag of Al.di muesli
    - take out about 1 soup bowl full and close the bag tightly
    - pick out the dried fruit and keep separate
    - in a larger bowl: mix 1 or 2 spoonfuls of honey with 1 or 2 spoonfuls of oil (any oil, I like corn oil)
    - mix the grains in until they are all lightly covered with the honey-oil mixture
    - put on baking tray (use baking paper), spread out
    - put in oven for 7 minutes, stir, and another 5 minutes
    - keep an eye on the colour, you don't want it too brown
    - let cool
    - mix dried fruit back in
    - keeps well in airtight container for about two weeks (so don't make too much!)

Adjust to your own taste; it's a very flexible and forgiving recipe.

Mrs MP - did laugh at the '98 catalogue. I'm certain you're not alone one way or another! I read a Feng Shui book some years ago that advocated keeping the bedroom clear of clutter and electrical items ( TV's and PC's) as fhey disturb your Chi and. contribute to restless sleep.
Still have to visit the cards as I have a box full of special ones - hmmm.
I did bite the bullet yesterday and blitzed the downstairs - got rid of the papers and magazines that contribute to the clutter. Ivenot kondoed much but have done some re-organisation. I'd bought some glass pump/spray bottles for oil and vinegar and they have hardly been used. Then realised I could use the oil one for a cooking spray instead of buying an aerosol -vinegar one washed and kept for Justin as do t know if the pill e will clog.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
