  • Hi guys,
I'm going to join you for the mins game. I've just moved to a smaller place, and got rid of lots of stuff, but still have a big box of papers that has started to yell at me, and another big box of photos, though they might become an October mins game.... I've been putting the photos off for 2 years, for all the usual reasons but especially hiding from sadness.
Papers first. I've already got rid of the easy stuff, but no 'office' here, so must shrink volume, then afterwards may scan what needs to be kept.
So I need to do 10 today. Then I shall be caught up with you for the rest of the month.
Will post later, off out now, just wanted to commit myself!
A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks

Mavymoo well done, had I of known you were doing this one on your own, I would have given my car booitng a miss and driven up to help you, then gone on to visit family.. xx

Stuff did move out on the car boot but not as much as I hoped, lets hope what has gone gives others joy!

  • I've read both of Marie's books, kept the first one and sold the second one (really disappointed in it). Although I don't know how useful I find the book, beyond using the mantra about if an object/item gives you joy then keep it, if not get rid.

I've also got a copy of Life Laundry by Dawna Walters, a lady who used to have a TV series on the BBC about decluttering, which I used to love watching. Does anyone else remember that?

Thought I'd pop in and update my Min's game progress. I don't know whether it is classed as cheating but I am also tidying at the same time. However the things for the game are things that have been lurking rather than washing up etc.

    Anyways

    Day 3 - 28 items
    14 photos scanned and shredded
school report and badge straight to keep sake box
plastic tub in car boot box.
sheet of tea dyed paper been on side for ages for magic key gift tags, printed and glued on tags ready in craft box
instruction/serial no for mobile now filed in proper place
3 receipts - 2 on hogsback and shredded and 3rd stapled to dd paperwork for guides badge
tub been sat in freezer now back in cupboard as have made room. [it has extra sugar, coffee etc
    that doesn't fit in tin]
Lego lanyards with pin badges to kids keepsake [x2] been in drawer for over a year
reusing a plastic tub to collect excess coloured pencils to give to local rainbows - 4 pencils now in

    Day 4 -27 items
old lottery ticket - checked and gone
    13 photos scanned and shredded
12 Judy Blume books - favourite author when younger spent my pocket money on them
4 more pencils [puts me slightly over but didn't want to put them in our stationary drawer to make more work later!]
Don’t put it down - put it away!

I do but probably for the wrong reasons. I used to love it but the undiagnosed but compulsive hoarder with whom I was living at the time used to go into a minor meltdown and have strong physical reactions if he was in the room and it came on. So the programme could only be watched when he was out.

It is an illness, and I did my best to help but it wasn't enough. The compulsive hoarder's obsession with stuff runs deep, too deep for most partners to fathom, and in this case needed professional input which he was not prepared to contemplate.

On a lighter note, I had a query about an item on the Bay, so hopefully that's a sign that it will leave my safekeeping asap.

to be able to get an AGA installed in October. .

Ha konoed ours last year........after 30 years of being a an AGA enthusiast! Have not missed it one bit and I really thought I would...........cats have though:D

Today I am clearing out a filing cabinet. I have brought a better one into the house so te one I am clearing out of the study/office is going into the 'office at the bottom of the garden' - part of OH's man cave, and the one in there is now listed on fr**cycle :) So no extra filling cabinets and much chucking of paper based junk in the process

Wonder whether I'm getting your old one then? :D

I work from home and spend a lot of time sitting down not moving. This will provide a warm core to the house when I don't need the heating on. Plus mean I don't have to remember to turn the oven on when I remember I have to eat...

I will still be putting in a propane hob (currently trying to decide whether I need two rings or four) and an electric oven (probably a double). I love cooking, but really haven't been able to do any since moving here as it's 3 years since I moved in and ripped out the carpets and kitchen...

Lots more stuff binned/recycled (recycling is full). Two chairs taken home by my brother (my nephew took the lego and meccano I gave him for his birthday and accidentally left his lion behind - my parents adopted one for him for his birthday as he wants to learn about lions). And someone is about to come and take away one of my 'shabby chic'dressers. I have no idea how much to ask her to pay for it. Can't even remember what I paid for it! Checked ebay BIN prices for small dressers and they vary wildly. It's more shabby than chic, as the drawers stick but I have rewaxed the top and replaced the missing internal shelf.

Had a couple of hours to spare so took a couple of charity bags up to the wardrobe ! 1 bag of clothes 5 pairs of shoes that I know I won't wear now I have problems with my feet, and 5 handbags.
I also pulled out the suitcases from the top and threw away 1 lilo and 1 whale. An old holdall that was too big, and a toiletries bag that had seen better days.
There is a mini hairdryer never been used and toiletries bag with tags on that were gifts that I will send to dgsons school Xmas fair.
Dh went to tip with a broken garden table and chairs I also sent the old electrical items routers and sky box.
Bagged up a gift for a work colleague that's this week, and a card for a nearby friend that will be dropped off too. Found a scarf in my gifting box that I rather fancy for myself and that got transfered over:D
I'm a large boobied person but unlike the others on here do like my scarves, usually only when I'm outdoors silky ones when milder weather and woolly in winter.
Got rid of 3 more of dh work tops that were tatty, he has tons!
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.

Not much happening here on the MK front. It will need to though as we've had an offer accepted on another house. We can't move directly to it though, will have to rent it out for somewhere between 2-5 years before I sell/close my business and retire early. The 'new' house (Victorian) has no loft space apart from some in the garage, so that will severely limit what can be stored for Justin. There's lots of kitchen/wardrobe space though. The kitchen has a built in fridge and freezer, although the freezer isn't much bigger than a large icebox. We currently have a large fridge, small chest freezer and a fridge-freezer. We were going to get rid of the fridge-freezer when we got the big fridge but it's still proving useful. Do we really need the equivalent of 3 fridges and 3 freezers? It's unfortunate about this built-in one, I don't like built-in appliances as they limit your options, however the kitchen is hand-made and good condition (at the moment, who knows what it'll be like after it's been rented). They can go in the garage but that's some distance from the kitchen. Ho hum, we'll have to deal with that when it happens. At the moment everything seems very overwhelming and little clut is being encouraged out of the door.
