KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

It's pickling down here today, luckily I'm off work. I've spent the morning searching for car ins renewal for hubby. It's looking like we'll stick with what we've got all quotes are way above our renewal! First time ever ! On MSE it says car ins has gone up by 20% so not surprising then.
Greent I'm the same as you I love nice smellies and get them out in rotation that I've been given them. I don't use bath stuff as I prefer to shower so they get decanted into my hand soap pumps in the bathroom kitchen and cloakroom. Even my husband notices how nice his hands smell when he washes with it!
Loocyloo I also love to read the thread because I find myself looking for things to go ! It's very addictive.;)
Just cooked a giant tukey leg and thigh that dh got yellow stickered last night.that will do sandwiches for work for a good while!Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
LOTS of stuff got rid of. Letters from my first boyfriend (didn't re-read them), 9 Mr Men mugs and 4 egg cups, three sets of toddler cutlery (kept 2 in case of small visitors) and lots and lots of other bits.
Shattered after the furniture moving, so need a break. Then I need to start packing some stuff up and working out where to store it.0 -
What's being done on this round of builders, greenbee?
I was driven off the allotment by the rain, which is badly needed, so parched up there. Decluttered some weeds and dug up some more glass, nails and pottery. Plus some spuds which got missed in the harvest three weeks back and a very surpised toad.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Weather has been miserable here too. Perfect indoor kondoing weather if nothing else!
So far this week I have
- filled a big blue bag from the blue and yellow shop with clothes for CS
- gathered a carrier bag of rag quality bits
- blitzed through toiletries and makeup - ditched several items including two with microbeads
- gone through jewellery (pretty much all costume jewellery), some to CS and some for bin/metal recycling
- books, got rid of another 20%. I did start to look them up on Zapper but had a word with visitor Mr Sunk-cost and will send directly to charity shop.
Having a little break before moving onto CDs and DVDs. I reckon there's a pile of stuff I can release from there.
I listed another item of furniture on teabay. Very excited that it has a bid on it and about 20 watchers, not due to finish until Friday but it will free up a lot of space when it goes. Even if I don't make a fortune on it, its better than it going to the tip, and I don't have to shift it!
I also hoicked out 10 pieces of nasty old 'tupperware' that was past its best - have replaced with 9 new items. Four items for work lunches and 5 for freezing leftovers.
Enjoyed 'meeting' the new characters who try to thwart our best intentions.

Why not? Is it because you feel they have value, or that you spent good money on them? Can I ask, have you read either of MK's books, as they give a good insight into the reasons why things are kept past their useful life, and also suggest a plan for starting the KM journey.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

GQ - this time, once they've finished the snagging upstairs I'm hoping that they block up the kitchen door and whatever is needed to be able to get an AGA installed in October. Then in November there will be some kitchen done, and the floors levelled in as much of the house as possible.
Kitchen is looking tidier, but a I need to move the base of the dresser out of the utility room and into the garage. And work out how much to ask my friend to pay for it.
Then I'll be able to drain the ice maker, which I need to sort out a repair for. I expect it'll heat up now it isn't working - but it might be a good time to have it out of the way
And I'll be able to get to the fridge ...0 -
I'm in my early fifties. Forty years ago, I was ready to put aside certain of my childish things, my dolls and my teddies.
I can recall my mother asking me, very anxiously, at the time was I sure? I was. I never regretted parting with these things and I can still recall every stitch and foible of my favourite cuddlies. The physical toys leaving didn't erase the happy memories at all.
Imagine my astonishment to bump into my two dolls in the past few years. After the second re-encounter with Tiny Tears a year of so back, after I had kondo'd her twice decades apart, I had to get firm with my mother.
I pointed out that this was a toy and should be played with by a child, not be stuck in a cupboard until it died in storage. I respectfully bathed and hairwashed TT, dressed her in freshly-laundered handknitted doll clothes, and donated her to the chazzer.
Mum's issue with my dolls was that they were what she always wanted and couldn't have herself back in the 1940s (because the plastics weren't of the right type) - a soft cuddly baby-doll type doll.
She didn't want to keep my dolls in state, or enjoy them, she just felt she couldn't get rid of them because of Isshews in her own background.
I'd encourage any parent not to try to over-ride their youngster's judgement and wishes about Stuff.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Well I got second prize in the raspberries, first in the flapjacks, 2nd in the biscuits and third in the jam tarts at the lottie show. The tarts went in the bin and the rest in the freezer.
Day 3: clipboard I bought to keep my planning on binned (4 years old it's done well)
owl bag to CS (replacement arrived and I resisted DH exhorting me to put it in the loft for spares!). New bag sparks immense joy:j
2 empty ice cream boxes
Also Kondoed another 1 lb and unsubscribed from at least 3 websites which send notifications and several files and folders in my documents.
Amazing weight loss GQ. Mine will slow down next week once I'm in fat burning mode and will be one to two pounds a week.
Pouring down here now but it needs it.

Hello all
GQ Congratulations on the kondoed lbs
I am still on it and have lost another 2lbs this week so all good
My charity sale was on today and 330 items left the building onwards to their new homeI hope they will bring joy into the life of their new owners. Loads of people said 'oh look I have got on what I brought from here last time, :rotfl:So £330 taken for Charity it was bl**dy hard work as I was on my own so made DH help
But he couldnt deal with anyone with more 1 item :rotfl:as he couldnt get them off the hanger and fold them quick enough
So all I heard was Mav can you help me.He did do really well and I am thankful he was there.
I kondoed a Bessie Bessie BessieToday. A leather jacket I brought a while ago that cost me a 4 figure sum (how stupid was I )
I will own up and say I never ever wore it as it was too good to wear and I might ruin it and Bessie kicked in and in the wardrobe it stayed and was admired from time to time.
So I thought right I will start wearing it put it on and its miles too big for me.It looked like I was strutting around in a black bin bag . :rotfl:I just laughed and laughed until I cried with laughter. It was so funny I couldnt speak for laughing.
So Jacket has been kondoed to a Charity close to my heart who are going to auction it off and the guide price is £700-£900 as I really dont want to see that binbag in my house againAnd lesson learnt.
Wore a bessie dress to today to( make amends with myself ) with a denim jacket to tone it down a bit and felt good. Have walked the dog in it I have fed the chickens and the cats it in and who cares I am NEVER EVER keeping anything for best lesson learnt !
Mav x;)
