  • I agree with the others. Go, make amazing memories that will never need to be kondoed.

    Morning fellow kondoers
    Hope everyone is well
Just kondoed the boys (and a plus one from the settee) off to school/work/back home. They went to a gig last night in London to see panic at the disco. I had a grovelling ds2 yesterday morning asking me to get him out of school 30 mins earlier so he could go as someone ds1 had bought a third ticket for couldn't go. The sensible parent in me wanted to say no, the but think what he will actually learn in that 30 mins and how will that compare to the memories of going with his brother and seeing a band they both love side of my brain won. Dh got a call at 2am to pick them up from the bus station in the city so they got a bit of sleep and have gone to work and school with good grace today.
Dh said he can't believe how many gigs they go to and said it must cost ds1 a fortune, I reminded him that on hearing the news David Bowie had died, he said he wished he'd seen him when he came to our city, followed by a convo about other bands he wished we'd seen. I rmeminde him of that and said ds1 is making memories, some of the band he sees probably won't be around in a few years time but others will be the rock gods and legends of the future and when older the boys can share stories with their families of how they bunked off school/work early to see that band or how they were at some of the start up gigs that some legend singer did. Who knows I just think they are young they should have fun.
Ds2 told me they briefly saw a the David Bowie mural and flower tributes as they were heading to the gig.
Today I'm going to be putting some patchwork squares together so all the scraps from them will be kondoed into the bin, I also gave a neighbour a length of stick on Velcro she needed for a task so it saved her a trip to b&q and some money.

    Have a joyful day all.

:)Fen1, I share a lot of those emotions about spending money on what seem like indulgences like travel etc when surely it should be spent on saving for your old age or something worthwhile for the house.

I'm trying to wean myself off the habit (not easily) because I'm already just past 50 and you come to realise that, although death is hopefully a long way off, you can't count on having the energy and health for certain things, so you should do them now.

I have had a couple of holidays of a lifetime, and enjoyed them enormously, and have zero souvenirs (some photies only) but fabulous experiences. Sky-diving! Hot-air ballooning! Cave-boating. Ocean kayaking! Wheee!!!!!!!!!!!

A guy my Dad worked with for many years had his life on hold for all the things he and his missus were going to do when he retired. He worked hard and saved hard, scrabbling around for every bit of overtime he could get. He retired on his 65th birthday and died of a massive heart-attack less than a week later.

Pity him, and pity his loved ones, and remember life is unpredictable so BE JOYFUL NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D Today, I'm on flex-leave from my job. I could do something worthwhile with my time, and be earnest and responsible. S0d that for a game of soldiers, I'm taking a bus ride for about an hour to a town where I've never been before to spend the day mooching around. I shall buy myself a lunch in a pub or a chippy and thoroughly enjoy myself.

Being middle-aged, I shall take the wally-trolley, in case I see some chazzer books which need to come home with my temporarily (born to be mild, that's me ;)).

Funnily enough, an egg-cup is also on my mind today, as I had one as a little Xmas gift, boxed, rather nice, but I never use such things. Don't want to donate it to a chazzer in this city, in case giver sees it, so will discreetly donate it in the Other Town.

    Have a good day, folks.

  • Well that kind of reinforces what's said above,Mrs MP - memories are the most important thing. Fen1, when you die and they're writing your tribute, they're not going to write about how much money you saved. They'll talk about the fabulous holiday you had with your OH and what a wonderful trip it was.

A word of experience, don't let your worry about how much it's cost blight the holiday experience either. You've saved for it - what else are you going to do with the money? Relax and enjoy it.

I totally agree, on New Year's Day we went round the table at lunchtime and everyone looked back and picked some highlights from the year, mine obviously that we now had DGS in the family, and all the family around but picking things we'd enjoyed was easy the three rather unexpected gigs that ds1 took me and Dh to, if last new year anyone had said to me this will be the you are going to see flogging Molly, are singing along with the best of them at a Frank turner gig so close to the stage the crew are passing you free water as you can't get out for a drink, and you'll see caro emerald live. I would think they'd confused me with someone else I don't do stuff like that, but I did and I really really enjoyed it.

A line from the Frank turner song Peggy sings the blues "It doesn't matter where you come from, It matters where you go. No-one gets remembered. For the things they didn't do"

Another vote here to say go for the holiday - and do it with joy :)

Love mrsmp's view on what the boys are up to - sounds great :)

We are (when I get around to booking it) off to Florida this Summer with our 4 children. Will cost mega bucks as we are limited to school hols (although may leave a couple of days before end of term for the small ones if I can) The two eldest (18 & 166) will have just finished their A2 and GCSE exams and we figure it's likely to be the last big family holiday we have where it is all 6 of us and no more no less. The person least looking forward to it is DS3 (6) - as he thinks everything is Mickey Mouse (who he doesn't like) I could more than pay off our personal loan with the cost of it but that will be repaid anyway, and overpayments on it will be tackled after the holiday - so I'm going to enjoy my holiday with my family :)

Fen1 - just echoing what everyone else has said GO! We never know what's round the corner in life. You are not depriving anyone by going so just enjoy!

Experiences every time. Enjoy them. Especially if you've saved for them because you've made good decisions. But, on the other hand, don't be scared of the credit card if it's the only way and the last chance.
Went to Blackpool last year for a festival of very strange music. The hotel was ATROCIOUS. But it was a great weekend. Honestly, none of us know how long we've got so go and do stuff, use the stuff we're keeping for best or release it...
