KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Well the trip to the bed shop did not happen. TBH I think DH and I would have just fallen asleep if we'd lain down! Still recovering from long weekend / bug
We have resorted to blanking out a day in our slightly hectic diaries for a few weeks hence!
Went to the in laws' and assisted them with a bit of kondo-ing - mil wanted shut of 2 large gifts sets of lavender smellies and seemed delighted to pass them kn to me. I accepted so I could re-use the Boxes and dispose of the [STRIKE]lovely[/STRIKE] ancient contents!! Gawd knows how long she has had them in the bottom of the wardrobe but I think they have died in storage and am not prepared to risk life and skin!
Also kondo'd lots of weeds!!
MI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
A small bag of CD singles and old clothes of DS's to the charity shop today, and finally completed the Music Magpie order (125 CDs, £26 - sob!) so that will leave the house in the next week. Still so many CDs though
Sold an unused fake tan, a few hair products and a jacket so they will be collected this week.
And while DS was at youth club we cleared down the sides of the cupboard in the dining room; I used to have a tendency to shove things down the gaps when I couldnt be bothered cleaning up! :j Got a freegle pick-up scheduled for tomorrow and have also started work on the inherited WIP, which I think I will really enjoy. Plus worked on it whilst watching the DVD got from the charity shop a few days ago, so that can now form the kernel of the next donation bag.
Onward and upward, my lovelies, onward and upward.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

A while back I mentioned Konmarie to a few friends. I was pleased that one of them messaged me a few weeks later proudly showing me her fabulously folded clothes! Today the other friend told me she has "konmaried the !!!! out of her house" and it's changed her life! Both were initially very skeptical so I'm pleased they have come past the initial resistance and now have lots of joy.Jan 20 - NST challenge

Cheers all, Just sitting with a welcome glass of wine in the sun with an aching back and wrist after a very productive day in the garage.
One extremely full car went to the tip and a pile of wood is at the side of the garage to be passed on to someone with a wood burner.
Sent an blackboard easle and toy bbq and car seat to sisters for her dgs .
Now the garage is swept and tidy with room to swing a couple of cats ! :j
Finally got OH to get rid of numerous spades and socket sets that he never used in the 15 years we've been here.
Rearranged the stuff on the rafters so we know what's up there and can't believe the difference.
So I'm sitting with a smile and a wine blessing the power of kondo! !Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
You're all doing far better than me!
MMF007 We bought a Premier Inn mattress last autumn. It's very comfy and was a very good price. It needs turning (round, not over) every couple of months. We used to have a Dunlopillo latex one and would have liked to get another, but they are very expensive. Mind you, we did have it for about 17 years so we felt we'd had our money's worth!0 -
Due to an ailing Nexus tablet I've been unable to log in for quite a while, but I've been following everyone's progress with interest. Having kondo'd clothes and footwear last year, I recently did another KM review and weeded out worn & past it clothes... realised I needed less storage & could now let go of a damaged CoD which couldn't be repaired and definitely did not spark joy!
So today I dismantled it and tomorrow the pieces go to the tip! And the feeling of space in the room is wonderful.0 -
DDs and SIL came round for lunch and got me organised!
All the clean laundry has been put away, several boxes of books are unpacked and in the bookcase, floors are hoovered and mopped and we had a nice lunch in the garden.
We even came up with a plan for the back garden and the idea of buying a couple of sun loungers so will have a look at online sales.
I ordered a new double mattress a few days ago as it was such a good deal and got quite a shock when it arrived this morning!!!
DD, SIL and I manouvered it upstairs after a lot of lifting and shoving.
I have a new set of bedding on my bed that I got in the Christy sale and it looks lovely. I got "blue poppy" for about half price.
Have been thinking what to have in the upstairs study rather than a sofa and thinking of going for a metal day bed in the sales, then it would work for seating and also as a spare single bed if needed.
Gave older dd some frozen portions of stew to take back and middle dd some portions of home made lasagne. I still have a chicken curry in the fridge and some beef, gravy and vegetables so don't have to cook tomorrow.
DDs took a lot of stuff to the tip for me which has been a big help.
I even kondo folded my knickers and put them in a smaller set of drawers in my bedroom and will move the large pine set of drawers out of my room in the next few days.
Builders should be arriving tomorrow to finish up a few things for me, then I still need to think about blinds and upstairs cupboards.
Finally this is starting to feel like mine and hopefully a safe and comfortable space to be.

Inside I've painted the hall curtain pole and out it up, and swapped over bedside tables in my bedroom.
Outside I've broken up a fence panel for kindling and made a start on processing the wood from the old staircase.0
