KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Just looking at a few recent posts regarding bedrooms. Many years ago I dabbled with Feng Shui and one of the things they mention is clearing clutter as it obstructs the vibes ( technical term!) also keeping the bedroom clear including TV's and computers so there is nothing to disturb your mental state. Seems MK could be a similar path? I know we all seem to feel calmer without the 'chatter' of clutter!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I think it means the last thing you see before you close your eyes, and the first thing when you wake up, is a clear and calming space - it definitely helps me (even better, I know that inside the cupboards it's just as good - no clothing monsters to spring out when the doors are opened!)
To all those struggling with paperwork, it really is worth persevering. You may remember that a couple of weeks ago I had a hissy fit about my shredder, which had broken. I get very stressed when mechanical things go wrong! This time, I knew exactly where the invoice was (thank you MK) and after emailing Viking, I was pleasantly surprised to get a response saying they will pick it up and drop off a new one! Quite truthfully, before MK I would have struggled so much to find the invoice that I'd probably have given up. My house may still be a bit untidy, but I know exactly where all my paperwork is, and it's life-changing! Keep going!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
I haven't been getting rid of much lately, just keeping up with daily tidying up. I moved a table into the middle of my living room and have a lovely cherry scented candle on it and I'm going to get either fresh flowers or a plant to go there too.:A I don't have much luck with plants so tend to go with flowers! It feels very restful which I need after all the terrible news we have had lately.:(
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.:)0 -
All very slow here, but to crib another lovely MSE'er I just "keep plodding":D
5 items of clothing, 1 unwanted kitchen gadget and 2 books dropped into CS this morning, if I can keep to a minimum of 1 bag per week it is all progress. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Two items sold on the Bay of E this afternoon. Should get about £25 after fees which is a nice bit of cash for the kitty.
Wishing they'd hurry up and get in touch to arrange collection!
I've pulled a couple of things out of the kitchen to go. I'm debating whether to Ebay them or just send them off to the charity shop and have them gone. One set is quite retro, but it would definitely have to be listed as collection only as it would be such a headache to post!
I also have a couple of things I want to offer on local sales pages so I might spend some time tomorrow grabbing photos.
I'm amazed at how quickly recycling piles add up so I'm making an effort to take a bag down to the bins every time I go out. The paper is breeding I think!"Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

Argghhh. I appear to have Kondo'd a stone from the bracelet my DH gave me for my wedding present. It's a multi-stone bracelet and I've had stones drop out before, the two previous occasions with enormous luck, I found them. We've been out today tramping round a NT property, there's little chance of ever seeing the stone again. Previously when I've had the stones back in the jeweller has said there was something wrong when the bracelet was made and the gold is brittle. I'm thinking I'll have to get the rest of the stones taken out and made into something else, perhaps a bangle with the stones being channel set, but that ain't going to be cheap!
I thought this morning when I put it on that there was the possibility I'd lose another stone, but other than leave it in a drawer, what's the point in having it if I can't wear it?Make £2025 in 2025

I cleaned the kitchen and asked a few questions on the way: not much has changed but several things are now in happier places and replacement items have appeared for the things I discarded.
I had not realised how much I disliked the washing up bowl, but the replacement (that had been holding the multi-pack kitchen paper towels) is much better to use. (old one has gone to the garage to hold my future drainage crocks for the garden pots - aka a broken plate and a chipped bowl!)I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
All my electrical/electronic recycling has gone - I won't have that much in one spot again, so that space is permanently freed up. In future, I'll be able to put my wellies there - near the door, but out of the way, and freeing up under the stairs for stuff thats needed. Am very happy2023: the year I get to buy a car0

:T Everyone's doing so well.
I've been busy with work and with gardening. I've kondo'd - due to wear and tear - one tea-towel and 3 pairs of knicks, and have taken 6 bags of noxious weeds to the tip in the past 20 hours. Phew, that was tiring on the pushbike.
Have decided that the top I'm wearing isn't long for this world. I bought it for £1 from a bootsale several years ago and have had a heckuva lot of use out of it but it is wearing very thin. As it's long-line and thus covers the small of my back, I have demoted it to gardening and will rag it after the last risk of sunburn across said back passes later this year.
I agree about the paper, dreadful stuff seems to breed even though I work hard to keep on top of it. Tend to pick up junk mail, like the takeaway leaflets which postie leaves me most weeks, and chuck it straight into the recycling. And get other items out to the bin on the way to work in the morning. Once you let that stuff settle, it's very difficult to get rid of it.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Evening-all.
3 paperbacks went to the pub with us this afternoon as they were duplicates of ones Dh has in the warhammer range. They have a free bookshelf there. A pair of glasses that were in a case I bought for 20p at the boot went into the charity glasses for overseas bin in the optician.
I've just harvested new pots from the garden for tea.
I've had a move round in the kitchen and it's looking more spacious only a couple of bits went in the CS bag.
Went for a pre birthday drink with dd3 and her fianc! this afternoon which was nice.
Hoping not too much enters tomorrow, had end of term on Thursday the ki and my co workers were very generous mostly with chocolates, edibles and candles, I did get a lovely mug bag harm and framed piece that will bring me joy. But so far nothing I need to thank and pass on o the CS.
Have a lovely evening all.SPC~12 ot 124
