KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

:j:j:j Oh wow, Serendipitious and Kerfuffle, oh wow!
A huge leap forward for personkind, I am beaming from ear-to-ear. I can write about those categories because I have fought that fight myself and know that the parting is painless, once you do it.
Tomorrow is the start of the 17th week since I changed my diet and I have only 2 lb more to go to make it 2 stone lost. Yayyy! Those size 16 jeans I bought this week are looking more plausible every day.
Today, I will kondo two appointments (check up at hospital) and eye test. Actually, it'll be three appts as I have a gas engineer due from 7am onwards - our communal heating and hot water system had the industrial boiler version of a coronary infarction yesterday morning. It took several engineers and the fire brigade to all day to sort it out but my particular vein on the line went wrong late last night.
And when I come in from the hospital, I will kondo the appointment letter and the bus ticket straight away.
Must finish this cuppa and get dressed, don't want to greet the engineer in jammies and a dressing-gown, I'd feel embarrassed when his working day has already started.
Have a good 'un, folks, I think I will revist paperwork this afternoon.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Oh no, now I am thinking of what I could do to minimalise the seating without compromising visitors...... I once told DH that I was going to source an old tram seat, the ones where the back flipped over, so we could have the lovely view out most days but reverse the seat back so guests would face into the room, iyswim. He is not that imaginative so the idea was quashed
Love the tram seat idea. An alternative could be a built in window seat, depending on the shape and size of the room. They're not expensive to build and bench type seats take up less space than chairs. (I'm having one built very soon and it's going to hide log and kindling baskets underneath in a cupboard type arrangement).
No Kondoing done over the last couple of days and may have to wait until the weekend before can get stuck in again.
Confession time: After saying to OH on Monday I mustn't buy any more clothes as I have more than enough, managed to somehow order some in an online sale yesterday. Naughty Ocean!
Confession time 2: Still haven't done address book and birthdays book.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
I'd post this on the correct forum if I could actually find it, but I had to warn my fellow Kondoites that they should check their mobile phone bills carefully this month. I've just been clobbered for £4, for a text I definitely didn't send. I phoned my provider, TalkTalk and they told me to text STOP to the number 64000, which was a premium rate number. Upon checking, this has happened to others and some have had the 'subscription' taken out monthly. The company is 'aristiinternational.com', supposedly based in Cyprus. I was told by TalkTalk I could opt to bar premium calls from my phone, which I have now done. No offer of a refund. It was only when I put the phone down I had the strange feeling that I had already barred premium calls but have probably Kondoed the document, or a scan is lost among the many I have done of old documents, before shredding them. TT is not the only provider affected, http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/64000
Whilst looking for an explanation, I also found thisNo wonder I get so many daily unsolicited texts. I don't put my mobile phone number on anything unless I absolutely have to, only use it for family and a few friends.

Thank you for the warning charis. Sorry you got stung.
A smallish pile of baking tins put out this afternoon from yesterday's cull of the cupboards. I do have some more shredding to do so more recycling should be going out later.
Been at work all day today so not much by way of looking doing got done.SPC~12 ot 124

I've kondo'd three appointments in 5 hours. Hospital letter shredded, the 2015 eye prescription shredded and the 2016 one put in its place.
I have the start of cataracts on both eyes, which is very common once you're in your fifties, apparently. Another rubicon crossed in my personal decline towards the end........... :rotfl:
Pass me the h0rlicks and a lap blanket, my lovelies.
Jesting aside, I'm waiting on a serious phone call and might just distract myself my filing some paperwork. But first, I'll check and see if any of it can be filed in the shredder.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Sorry to hear about the cataracts GQ
Is there anything that can be done now in the early stages?
Well done on the appointments though, a very efficient day. Hope your heating is now fixed. The way the weather is, we need heating, even in June.
Sorry you got stung, Charis.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
Nothing to worry about according to Mr Optician. I could live to be 90 and they mightn't advance any further than they have now. Most people live and die with their caracts unoperated upon because it isn't necessary. If it is, no biggie, it's a routine day surgery op.
A pal of mine had a bad shock when, in her early forties; a routine eye test revealed severe cataracts on both eyes and she had them done, one at a time, in the following weeks. She had no idea she had a problem.
Have just breezed through two piles of unfiled paperwork and have decided that the plastic basket which sits on my desk is an invitation to papery clutter and must be banished. I shall put it back in the fridge to corral some of the veggies. I eat mainly veggies on my new diet and the salady stuff is prone to roaming all over the shelves as well as the crisper drawer.
I've been sent a Goo Oootdoors catalogue which I shall scan through as I like tents etc then recycle. Am busily not buying things although I have a secret plan to buy some foxy and probably age-inappropriate attire once I've got down to my fighting weight.;) But it'll be at the chazzers in most cases - I promise there will be no animal print fabrics or inappropriate fantasies about toy-boys.Gosh, have you seen those ridiculous trousers they're wearing these days, with the crutch about half way down to their knees so they waddle? Ehh, when I were a lass, a lad knew how to strut his stuff in jeans that actually fitted, kids today haven't a clue how to flaunt it when they've still got it.:rotfl:

Another one diagnosed with cataracts forming. I did ask the optician kf there was anything I could do & he said to avoid bright light so wear sunglasses where possible and avoid looking at car head lights. HTH
Kondoed loads of paperwork into a paper carrier - BIG mistake! Came upstairs after a short break to discover Puss had decided it would be a lovely place to curl up - after scattering the contents over the bedroom floor. Ah well it will only take a minute to put back and get it out the door once it stops raining........;)Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
A charity bag put out mainly dgsons old clothes but added a cardigan that although newish I don't wear as I got a grease stain on it near the top and even though it was small I couldn't get rid of it ! And my eye was drawn to it when I put it on! Also in the bag went a brown 'velvet' throw .
I also gave away 2 large games belonging to dgson that he no longer uses.
Today I have cleaned the conservatory windows, how I hate that job but it's satisfying to have it done .I also tidied and rearranged the ornaments in there parring back to minimum! I say ornaments really they are lanterns and tea light holders. I don't want to loose these as I'm given great joy when I light all these and sit in there listening to music.
Pleased that your mum got good news grey queen, and cataracts are treatable these days so definitely check that out,
Hoping lolly is coming on Mavvy.
Serendipitous I think you will love the space if you kondo the cupboards. I did when I kondoed a wardrobe!Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -

I had the knowledge in my head, and the notes were of no practical use in my career (even though it was a 'vocational' degree). And I'd got the certificate to prove I graduated. Same with my professional qualification - I didn't need the notes to show that I'd passed, and anyway they soon became out of date. I have got a few course notes from other things I've done but it's time they went I think, as I'm not going to re-read them. And they'll be of no interest to anyone when I'm gone!
As I still had copies on my computer, I also threw mine out :T
I read the book a few months ago and KM'd quite a lot of clothes and accessories then. I keep meaning to make a start on the kitchen. I will get round to it this summer. :cool:Illegitimi non carborundum.0
