KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Back from work, glorious sunshine here still.
Re horse tails (marestails here) on mils end of the estate it grows like the weed that it is her beds and front gravel are covered in it as are most of her neighbour's gardens. Our road seems to have escaped it as I haven't see it in ours our any neighbour's gardens.
I've tried pulling it up using weed killer, a hm version my mum suggested involving soda crystals, vinegar and boiling water- which stunk but didn't really make much lasting impact.
Going to have a cuppa then catch up with some housework and phone callsSPC~12 ot 124

Greenbee, the border full of weeds is only about 18 inches wide, has lawn on one side and path on the other, so perhaps not the best place for roses!
All this talk of marestail/weeds reminds me, occasionally we help MIL with stuff in her garden. Her weeds seem to be a completely different bunch to ours, so we've got in the habit of dunking our tools in bleach when we come home, just in case there's dormant seeds clinging somewhere and we don't want to introduce more varieties than the ones we've already got.Make £2025 in 2025

Another on clay soil here. A week on holiday and a week catching up on things after holiday, and the garden looks as if triffids have invaded. Today was too hot for me to work outside, and I was out for the day anyway - I'm hoping it will rain again (sorry) as by my next free day it will once again be like concrete. It does grow good roses, though!
Well done on all the hard work. Despite having let things get very messy here, it took me twenty minutes yesterday to tidy the spare room, make the bed and clean the bathroom for an unexpected visit from a friend. I've never been this organised before.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Another one with clay soil here. We forked it lots of sand and compost in. It worked in some areas but not others.
We have a rose called ballerina rose in our garden - it's loves the clay and the shade.
Most of our garden is in permant shade apart from an hour or two.
Hebes and hostas also like our garden.
We went onto the BBC gardenders world website to work out which plants like clay & shade and our local garden centre in stanmore is brilliant too.
We also get a gardener in to now our lawn. If the weather is good this coming weekend, I will try n do our front yard which loves to collect rubbish in the middle of all our plants.
Not much kondoing going on here. One more top into the the cs bag. Still trying to sell the last of the acca books.
Hope everyone had an enjoyable day and an enjoyable rest of the evening too.
Food in the oven, a quick Hoover upstairs with Henry whilst it's cooking.

I have one problem left - a 1970s coney jacket. I think I'm going to have to bin it as I cannot find an organisation that will take it: the CS, drama group and animal shelter don't want it.[/QUOTE]
Sorry to jump in but just wanted to say that you can donate unwanted fur to Peta. I hope the link works, it tells you what they can use it for -
http://www.peta.org.uk/action/donate-fur-peta/
I know some animal shelters will also take them to use as a blanket for orphaned/injured animals but notice you've already asked. I have lost the link I had for ones that do use them & can't seem to find it.

Neat link about what to do with unwanted fur. One of those difficult conundrums, and you don't really want furs lurking in cupboards in case they attract moths, whose evolutionary niche is to dispose of fur, feather and hide, after all.
Spent 2 hours on the lottie inc a tip run in the middle and I may have been weeding one-handed and swigging from a bottle of cider with the other. I say 'may' cos I wouldn't want you to think I was some kind of degenrate or something.
Lovely evening, loads of plot-holders up there after work, pottering barbequeing and watering.
I have hacked my way throught the overgrowth from other people's plots which has cloaked the back of the shed in 4 ft tall nettles, goose-grass, brambles and docks and have now reached the water butt on the far side of my shed, as the one at the front was getting a bit depleted.
Also did a micro-tidy of the shed, just a couple of mins, but have achieved something. Gawd, but I love being outside on warm summer evenings, it's the best.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

And I'm on Sewing Bee too!
The horse tail is allegedly a prehistoric plant, it runs riot on my plot. Every so often I get an easier year where it isn't quite the most prolific weed, but that isn't 2016
Have called down there tonight to water and pick radishes & strawberries, had some of yesterdays poached rhubarb after my tea, followed by strawberries & balsamic
Checked the temperature at 7.30pm - 32.5 degrees ad that wasn't in full sun!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Loving the weather here but back to work has meant less time spent on house things (and the weather was so lovely yesterday that we spent it in the garden with the small 2 in the paddling pool and a bbq in the evening)
Bag dropped off at CS earlier of random items. Far less visits there nowadays to drop things off
