I might try that one next time knitwitch.
I like all the sewing bee contestants they are a nice mixed bunch who get along well. I like how they help each other with stuff and aren't snipey.

Turned the heel on my second sock this morning, I can really see the difference between this one that I've followed the instructions properly and the first one that I misread - I may have to pull the first one back so they are both the same. Otherwise it will irritate me rather than bring joy.

Inspired by Sewing Bee I sorted through my sewing patterns again and now have them all neatly sorted into types in clear bags, and stored in just one box which will fit into the knee well of the desk until the right storage unit/s for my (much reduced) sewing stash comes along.

Several patterns went into the recycling and more went into the CS bag.

I do always think of you when working out how to deal with them though Mavvy.

The last one I had asked for me by name and said she was from my internet provider(and actually gave me their name) and that it was a problem with broadband that she needed control of my computer to fix. This rang alarm bells with me and I said I was busy so she arranged to call back the next day.

In the meantime I called my internet provider who confirmed it was not they who had made the call and I gave them the number which had come up when I received the call so that they can investigate. I think it was a fake number IIRC. When I explained that I was concerned as to how the scammer knew my name and internet provider he did say that it was happening to broadband customers with a number of providers.

Anyway, the lady did call back the next day and I let her waffle on for a bit and then I told her that I had called my internet provider and that she was a scammer and she put the phone down straight away.

Mrs Moneypenny, I too have been called stupid because having learned from Mavvy to play games with them, I was telling a previous Windows caller that yes I'd switched my computer on but no I couldn't see the opening screen etc etc so he decided that I was too thick to be scammed and after calling me all sorts of things he put the phone down.

:) Dammit *stamps feet* I wanna have a scammer of my very own to play with, s'not fair, they never bother me. I'd love to do a mavvy if I get the opportunity and will do my very best.

I was once moving some money between bank accounts and temporarily had a largish (by my standards, anyway) balance in my current account. My bank must've had a telltale on the account because their sales dept rang me and wanted to sell me financial products, which was a first.

I was a bit phased as had a friend around chatting when they called, so just told them in my best patrician tone that I never discuss finances on the phone but they could send me something in the post if they liked. They did and it was duly recycled.:rotfl:

If you get pestered by ladies or gentlemen from call centres on the Indian subcontinent, you could have a wee bit of fun by making a short list of the most common first names in various countries and when someone who says their name is John or something suspiciously-English try some response like; Amit, what does your mother think of you ringing up strange English ladies?

I did that to one such person, don't know if I scored a direct hit with the name but they put the phone down very quietly on this strange English lady.

Wow, what a thunder storm we've had here. Threw it down with rain and thunder rumbling round for about 90 minutes. Very nicely I had storm water coming out of the foul sewer in our back garden where houses up the road have been extended and their downpipes have been connected into the sewers instead of soakaways (grrrr!). Fortunately it appeared to be just water coming up, but 20 years ago we had sewage. Weirdly I had 'glupping' noises coming up in our en-suite shower trap which is upstairs. Must have been pressure changes from the drains. Fortunately no signs of anything coming up in our downstairs loo, although small leak under the cat flap and under the garage door.

Oh good grief it's coming round again.....

I do wonder if little (SHAR -DON -A) ;) is still backpacking round India :rotfl:Its all coming back to me now :)

I wont repeat what I said to the receptionist on the phone at the Doctors years ago when she thought she ruled the world.:( and were so rude she made people not want to phone our Doctors
It began with Oh YOU are the Doctor then and then I launched into my 'problem' Bet she never asked anyone again 'Why they needed an appointment' and What IS wrong with you ? That was about 30 years ago and I still remember the shock and horror in her voice :rotfl:But I got an appointment pretty quick ;)

:) I didn't bother watering the allotment as the sky is starting to lower and I expect there to be a thunderstorm before long.

I did declutter the allotment patio of its burden of drying couch grass which I put there some weeks ago, which I put into two IKEYA bags and took to the tip. I also got the cheapy trowel from Poondlandia down into the cracks between the slabs and levered out some soil and plants, and swept up. Lookin' good. Will be even nicer after a rainwater bath.

And I even found some slugs and snails which needed to be kondo'd, too.

Going to sign off for the evening and lay on the sofa drinking decaff tea. Because I can, and that's a good enough reason. :p

Never mind the scammers, I want the thunder storm! I enjoy watching the lightning :D although I don't want the heat to stop as its helping me tick along nicely atm. (Totally off topic, a lovely lady pushing an empty wheelchair complimented me on how well I'm walking with the stick atm :D so random, but def brought a smile to my face and I've tried to smile at everyone for the rest of the day)

Wonder of wonders! My yarn stash (which I thought was definitely SABLE when I was more ill) now feels light when I lift a box  ofc there are 5 boxes of yarn..... but its better :rotfl:
I frequently regret having so little garden but even the mention of horsetail is enough to convince me I prefer stones and tubs

My kondo itch will be getting well and truly scratched tomorrow as I'm back up to my friend's flat to help organise and clean it. I'm both excited and nervous about it, so far it's been a cleaner hoard than I feared, but I'm aware there may be hidden horrors in the 4 years since I moved out of there

No kondo-ing to report but wanted to check in to say WOW to Mavvy! What a fantastic idea to 'recycle' the CS cast-offs.
And well done Dragonette for walking well with stick (am assuming it is brightly coloured and also gets used to point out things of interest :D), and for passing on your joy.
And to all gardeners who are working so hard and producing yummy fresh food :T

Karmacat, I am so excited that you have less than 12 weeks to go until retirement! However, it's gonna be busy if my experience is anything to go by, although I was always going to have to do some paid work and I am only 52 so not complaining!! A lady I did a few hours work for but then lost contact with rang yester to ask for some more hours :) I had thought maybe she was not very impressed and had ditched me, but it seems not, so all is well!

At this rate I shall be paying tax in 2016/17, which seemed unlikely when I took voluntary redundancy back in March! It may sound like Pollyanna but I am happy to pay tax, always have been, because whatever we grumble about and whatever waste there undoubtedly is, we still have our NHS etc etc.

I did not have the energy to type last evening after 6 hours patio washing - well it turned into a full driveway and hardstanding at front and side of house! I wore high factor suncream (and a hat and clothes!) and am glowing gently but healthily. Car thermo read 27.5 as I finished at about 4pm. Of course I am now wide awake at 3.40am as often happens after a really exertive day:(.

I did speak to a lovely friend last evening, who live about 200 miles away, and we arranged a get-together before the end of the month (usually see her about twice a year) so am really looking forward to that :)

Fantastic thunder and lightening last night. I do love a thunder storm but this time I was thinking of the poor family in NI who have 3 members in critical condition. Hope they all pull through.

hope you lot are all safe,

    M

PS - The oft-mentioned topic of how things stay sorted once we have used the KM magic has rung true again. DH needed an allen key and I could lay my hands on it in moments now the most used DIY stuff is in a very accessible set of drawers, as opposed to being in a very tricky to get at tool box in the 'upstairs study' AKA the back bedroom! I am particularly pleased with that bit of Kondo-ing because it was a bit of lateral thinking and it really works :D
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.
