Mould is amazing stuff.
I once had a building surveyor in my flat investigating a mould issue. It was caused by moisture wicking through the party wall from next door, whose bathroom abuts my kitchen. And, in their bathroom, it was caused by a water leak coming from under the bath of the flat above.
The upstairs had no idea they had a leak and the nitwit next door hadn't reported it to our council landlord and had ended up with a dinnerplate sized hole in the corner of their bathroom ceiling (and I ended up with some mouldy flour in paper bags which had to be thrown away, grrr).
But the convo with the surveyor was interesting - he pointed out that the proximity of the river (50 m) meant that the riverwards side of my flat was going to be more prone to damp than the other side. Even though there are intervening buildings. Did I get the idea from you that your Dad's flat is at the seaside?
Surveyor also commented favourably that I don't have Stuff stuffed on the floor around the bedstead - there is less than 1 ft between wall at side and foot of bed, due to smallness of the room.
I often talk to householders who have damp problems under beds and typical issues are a child's room with underbed area rammed with plastic crates of toys etc (children a proportionally spending more time in their room than adults and breathing out my moisture) and those beds with bulky head and foot boards in leather(ette) which reduce air circulation.
Surveyor told me best ventilation to prevent damp is to have windows open on opposite sides of the home to draw fresh air through.I did leave about 3 inches between the last cardboard box on the high shelf in mum's BCofD and the outside wall, the one I'd treated for mould and repainted, and left strict instructions that nothing was to be placed on the last few inches of the hanging rail which ends on that wall, either.
Righty, another cuppa, wash a few dishes, then up to play in the dirt on the lottie for a few hours. Shed badly-needs tidying but I have been busy doing stuff with plants, I may get a little bit of that done today, we'll see.
Have a lovely day, folks.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Just a thought Greenbee - could you send your luggage forward between your meetings via courier - FedEx or UPS??? At least they would be tracked so much less likely hood of going astray.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

:j Yayyy, another freegler picking up tomorrow, which will mean that the items listed last night are all spoken-for and should be gone in the next 36 hours. I think I will list the other thing and see if that can find a good home, too.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I was guilty of ramming my understairs cupboard full of Stuff. It's why the ingress of rain when the pointing failed was so bad. Never again! I *will* rehome stuff in there eventually, but not half as much as there used to be, and I'll open the door once in a while too2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Yes GQ one side of the flat is almost on the beach :rotfl:But the side with the mould is the other side which is on a tiny little Victorian steet with big 3 floor houses on the other side. So not a lot of sun on that side.
I think it is due to the stuffed carp in the cupboard the window never opened enough and the door always being shut. Also I am sure the thick padded type wallpaper with boarder top and bottom  doesnt really help either.:o
The room needs gutting and all the wardrobes taking out. Which when I live in it they will be

Woop Woop - DH has Kondoed his cement mixer for cold hard cash. He decided he was unlikely to use it again so I offered to put it on Gumfree and its gone! More space at the bottom of the garden all I need him to do now is decide if he's going to use any of his timber stack on projects as its been there for at least 20 years. Fingers crossedSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I've been struggling for the past week. We got home from 10 days holiday last Monday, my first wash was in the machine within 10 minutes of coming through the door. It's been a really busy week, I work from home, and had loads of heavy stock which needed delivering this week. I tweaked my lower back first thing Tuesday morning which really didn't help. Have got 99% of stock delivered, last lot to go first thing tomorrow morning before the car goes to the garage for the part to be sent away and fixed.
However it's been a real struggle to catch up with the washing, what with the weather being so awful for the first few days of the week, my tiredness from the physical work and trying to get 5 days work into 3.
Today we ended up going to the tip (along with everybody else), via a huge diversion as a road was closed. Went to Costco (along with everybody else) as we were running out of some things we can only buy there. Went to Tesco (along with everybody else) for the rest of the shopping.
Unfortunately everybody else didn't come home and help with the gardening. All the rain over the time we were away and the weeds are rampant. We have horrid clay soil, we get about half a day if lucky between when the soil is too heavy to dig, and when it bakes like a brick so you can't get a tool in the ground. My stupid neighbour cultivates a plant which is actually a weed, and of course spreads rampantly, along with the flaming forget me nots she planted a few years ago. They get into our block paving and everywhere else.
I started trying to get neighbour's rampant weed out of a border, but it's so jammed in with the proper plants its proving a real problem. The hebes are getting really straggly, we're thinking we may just dig everything out, trying to save the lungwort, and blitzing the rest of the bed with weedkiller and then replanting through a weedproof membrane.
There's very little pleasure to be had gardening on our soil.Make £2025 in 2025

Grow roses Slinky. They love clay. I was on solid clay before, and I agree that it's hard work. I spent several years digging sand and compost and chicken manure into the beds, and mulched them with bark which I then dug in as it decayed.
I've done nothing today other than sit in the garden reading trashy novels in between doing the occasional load of washing. Unfortunately I didn't pay attention to my sun cream, so I'm rather pink.
It was good to have some downtime for what feels like the first time in months. Just need to get back on track tomorrow as I have to be packed for a work trip by Friday evening... (and have done some work, mowed the lawn, weeded the rest of the stream etc)0 -
Slinky, oh I get the clay soil too, we have been away for 3 weeks, last year I arranged for someone to come and keep the grass cut, it looked lovely when we got back as he did the edges so well too, OH does not make a great job of them and I cannot manage it myself, this time, the grass was just left and it looked like a hay field, we have been back 9 days and OH is still trying to get to grips with it. We get miles and miles of bindweed and brambles from next door:eek: The weather here has been lovely, but I so need some rain so that I can tackle the weeds too.
I hope that your back is better soon, take care. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
