KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Unexpectedly spent the day with OH sorting the garage - 2 bulging binliners of rubbish in the bin. 2 cupboards dismantled ready to take to recycling centre tomorrow along with 5 tins of no-longer required/ dried up paint, a pile of cardboard boxes and a small table top freezer. Lots of paper in recycling box, along with some bottles and jars. A crate of items for ebaying in garage ready for another day. My bike to be listed on faceb00k tomorrow. 3 items added to charity bag. And that was probably about 1/3rd of the garage (and not including the garage loft at all)
There was evidence of mice having been in the garage over the Winter, but nothing too bad, thankfully.
Whilst the day was productive (and was nice being outside for a lot of it and the smallest two were out with us, drawing with chalks on the drive and playing with bubble wands) - I had plans which included some paperwork which really needs to be done. Still - tomorrow is another day!

Morning
Working the late shift today
So I want to KM a couple of draws from the hall cupboard, then if time permits, the cupboard under the stairs as well, I am sure there is 'stuff' in there that brings no joy, not seen the light of day for ages.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

Greenbee, I don't know what you're taking but I want some of it, you're like a whirlwind!
I love the Pam Ayres poem, it describes the horrors of Stuff perfectly.
Stephnyc - I still hang quite a few of my clothes in the wardrobe. I have a much larger ratio of wardrobe to drawers, and once I'd Kondoed my clothes (many more to go when I do another round) there's room for all my t-shirts to hang without being squashed. I fold undies, pyjamas, cardigans and scarves but still hang everything else up.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Thanks Springdreams, I do like a chuckle at Pam Ayes poems. I read her autobiography a while ago and you really get a sense that she appreciates joyful things in life, and, of course, laughter along the way.
well, I did it! I finallly got the hour (hour and a half, tbh) in the garden reading a book! It felt like skiving, after working full time for all-but 3 years of my adult life :rotfl:
I made sure I walked the long way round to the post office, about 2 miles and very hilly, so I could justify the down time!
I have made a list for the weekend 'to do', I am finding this really helps me focus and of course I get satisfaction from ticking off 'done'. Some jobs I am allocating to tomorrow when DH is out working so I don't get given unsolicited advice on how to do them(he has fallen into the self emplyd trap of taking on another job even though he is working hard enough without 'just one more' customer... I have talked to him before and he promised not to take on any more this year but this customer lives very near to another so he thought he could do it... so now he's working 6 days a week on ocassion).
Kondo'd some frozen damsons into jam yester, shall be giving it away next week. So damsons and jars will be releasedFreezer still all neat and tidy and I can lay my hands on any required item without flinging stuff out and cursing!
Right, low carb breakfast has been consumed, I shall get myself a glass of water and start on the jobs - kondo-ing grey hair first! (Seriously thought about going natural but it can be so ageing, not for everyone but certainly for me, and while I am still over weight it would be disastrous!).
Have a joyful day,
MI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Morning all
Sad to read of Muhammad Ali's passing, I grew up watching his fights as he was my mums crush. He always came across to me as a good person with strong beliefs.
Just done the CS run. Yes, I feel lighter, the chair has gone along with 7 bags of random kondo.
Just putting the shopping away while Dh does his training then we'll nip mils and do done gardening for her.
Hope everyone is as well as can be and has a joyful weekend.SPC~12 ot 124

Morning all.
I didn't get up until after 10 am.This is unheard-of for me, I am normally awake well before 6 am and up by 6.30. I feel very discombobulated by having 'lost' half my morning.
Well, I was very tired and decided to sleep until I woke naturally, so I guess I needed the rest. Still feeling tired but will get dressed and out the door soon.
I'll declutter three of the library's books back to them, post my ballot paper, and then take some donation bags to the chazzer - the things which came back from the parental home on Bank Holiday Monday (most of the stuff went to the cancer charity shop in their town, but some came with me) plus some bits & bobs of my own.
Actually, as I was typing that, I was thinking of a two-part errand; library then home, get chazzer bags then off again, as home is about two-thirds of the way between chazzer and libary, then had a LBM.
If I use the wally-trolley, I won't need to come back in and can take the pretty route between those two points.
Righty, time to wash, dress and hit the streets. Have a good kondo-ing day, one and all. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Parents and kids have gone... my dad put up another set of shelves and 4 pictures before they left. Kids mostly did their own packing and tidying.
WM and DW both on. And there's more to go in the DW when it is done. I'll be eating left-overs this week...
I have a whole lot of stuff in the boot of the car that needs to go to the CS, so really need to make myself go next week. And I have a suit to collect from the dry cleaner.
My office is a tip, and I really need to get it sorted as I have a huge amount of work to get done, and need to start thinking about packing for my next trip - I'll be airborne by this time next week.
The trip after that is proving problematic, so I have some work to do with the local team to find out about alternative transport options - a 12kg baggage allowance isn't enough for my laptop, phones, chargers etc plus my work clothes, something to wear when I'm not working, makeup toiletries, nighclothes, underwear and gym kit. They need give me another option for getting from the international airport (32kg hold baggage, plus hand luggage).
I don't need the whole allowance, but as there is no separate hand baggage option I'm not going to make it - and I don't want my bags on standby as a. I need them with me, and b. I need them at the next destination as well... not following me around for however long it takes. I suspect that if they hadn't caught up with me by the time I left the country I'd never see them again.0 -
That business with the luggage allowance sounds like a right pain in the derriere. Not good for business travellers. I've travelled internationally with 10 kg luggage but I was carrying nil tech and about 2 changes of clothes and would definately not have been suitable for polite society, never mind business life.

I expect you're well up on all the tips and wrinkles already, but it might be of service to a passing reader on here.
Well, did my errands, including an extra one of booking an optician's appointment for my annual eye-test - am on consultant's orders to have annual eye tests due to a pre-existing medical condition which could impact on my sight. Managed to squeeze that into a day when I have leave booked due to another appt, so well pleased.
Am resting indoors reading this afternoon as am still shattered and realise I have been overdoing it, which isn't good if you have ME. Probably won't go to the lottie this afternoon/ evening but I'll see how I feel in a few hours.........Very pleased to have got those chazzer bags outta here.
