KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

GQ - there are plenty of people who make a living house/dog/cat/horse sitting. It keeps their own living costs low and they charge a nominal fee (actually, I think the horsey ones charge a big fee...). I did it as a student. Free place to live, free food and lots of exercise walking dogs. In fact, if you could nip down every time I'm away for work and supervise builders/transform the garden, that would be fabulous
There are two weeks in June, one in July and one in August at the moment. Although if I go to Canada much more they'll be asking me to pay tax...
I've worked pretty much straight through from 6.30am to 10pm and am shattered. I've managed to tidy a few odds and ends, and have just moved a blanket chest out of my bedroom where it was annoying me and onto the landing.
I have vast amounts to do tomorrow - the garage needs cleaning out, I have handwashing to do (all my woollens so they can be put away until winter), the hall and dining room need clearing (all bits of komono so annoying to deal with, but lots of them belong in the garage which is why they are lurking) and the kids room needs all the stored stuff taking out so there is somewhere for them to play/sleep on Friday.
You can see why I don't have time to sleep!0 -
Hi would you be able to send me the pattern. I volunteer for an animal sanctuary who look after lots of hedgehogs and I could make them to sell. They are really cute. Thanks in advanceGrocery Challenge Feb 16 £346 /4000

I'm seriously-tempted, greenbee, although you mightn't like me IRL (hell, you mightn't like me online for all I know
). But June's leave is promised elsewhere, later in the summer I'll have to have a think about, might have a week free.
mila, pooter is a common abbreviation for computer among people I know and has been for years. Dunno what started it, someone's kid's name for them, I suppose. Seems to be all over the UK.
I've often thought our nations can be divided by the same language as we don't use it the same way about 1 % of the time and you can fall over the differences - I'm impressed you tried so hard to find out, tho. I read a lot of American authors so get exposed to some concepts/ verbal habits we don't have here, although I am not still not exactly sure what duplexes and condominiums are.:D I mean, I know they're residential buildings, just not sure of what kind.
I have indeed eaten wheat things in my 3 days over at the parental home. Not bread (the gateway drug for cake, I reckon) but a few other things. Like the sleep-inducing biscuits. When I do this, even though it is for 3-4 days, and not full-on previous style conventional diet, it stalls my weightloss or even reverses it by a pound.
On my absence, I regained 0.3 kg previously lost and have dropped 0.7 kg in the past 24 hours. Remember, when dieting, you have to eat enough and sleep enough, or your metabolism will go haywire. And the stash of tinned pies will be eaten gradually and not replaced (seige food will be tinned fish).Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Mrs Mp They are fantastic. Hillside would be very grateful for these as they have just taken in a lot more horses and could do with the funds badly. Or yes I do know someone who raises funds for a hedgehog hogspital
But your call I know you visit Hillside and adopt animals so might be nice for them to go there.
I can always speak to you when you come up and then you can decide
Thank you so much for thinking of the very worthwhile charities around this area Mrs mpBut then again you are here so often you are almost local :rotfl:

I think there's a whole new career out there for you GQ ... some people house and pet sit. You can offer house and allotment-sitting services
I am hoping the boiler engineer will turn up today to service the boiler. He told the builder he'd be here first thing. As far as I'm concerned first thing is now over. Then again, the plumber's first thing is later than the builder's first thing, so who knows.
WM is on with the cleaning cloths in and I'm trying to decide whether to make a start on the hand washing, or getting the garage clean. Actually, I've realised I need to clear the kids' room to have somewhere to dry the handwashing... but I do need to get at least some of it done today as it has been hanging around for ages and I want to pack it away (despite the weather).
My dad has his list of jobs for the day - polish the oak handrail on the stairs, fix the doorknobs that have been done up too tight (kids room and bathroom, the two that really need to work) and mend the sprayer as the drive is disappearing under the wildlife.
I've taken on GQ's point about sleep and weight loss, but am not entirely sure what I can do about it! I think I need to be really strict on my working hours for a bit (although being away twice isn't going to help with that, nor is jet lag in any version).0 -
Mothershipton. If you look on ravelry there are some similar free patterns. I've knitted the blues hedgehog one from there previously and I know that they get sold in a sanctuary gift shop in Devon and are very popular. (I've sent them flatpack there previously) the pattern I used this time has a copyright on it so it's not my design to copy and distribute I'm afraid. If you crochet there are also lots of patterns on Pinterest.
With ravelry you have to join but then you can search free patterns and the blues hedgehog one will come up.

Morning all.
Got rid of lots last night, Dh has got it into his head about swapping ds2s room. So the spare room thats full of junk is getting a good going through. A black bag of junk went, plus 2 recycling bags full of paper and cardboard, and we've got 4 bags for the CS filled along with the big chair that will all go this weekend. The Christmas stuff (pressies etc from the now emptied squirrel cupboard have had to go into the attic)
Plan today is planting the stuff I didn't get round to yesterday.
Hugs to all who need/want them. Have a joyful day.SPC~12 ot 124

milasavesmoney wrote: »GQ will you please explain to this clueless American what a pooter is? I googled the term and found:
1) one who farts, 2) organic diapers made of bamboo 3) slang term used for certain woman parts.
As I don't think any of these fit....:D....could you help me out?
Ha Ha that made me spray the 'pooter' with my morning OJ ! There must be a host of other 'terms' we use on here that baffle those who are not in the know:pBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Y'know, if I was a free agent, and not a wage-slave, I'd be seriously tempted to have a peripatetic lifestyle as a roving gardener/ kondo-ista. And would gladly exchange my services for food and a bed at Chez Greenbee.
If I see a ruin of a garden or a pile of Stuff which needs sorting, my little heart goes pitter-patter with excitement. Sad, innit?
I was driving past the village church earlier this morning and someone was cutting the grass between the headstones. Warm early morning sun, sparkly grass, birds singing, hedgerows around the churchyard in full abundance and I thought 'I could happily do that......and I would make a much better job of it!'
I would like to retire early but know I would be bored so this would be perfect for me.........I am a good few years off but am beginning to make plans;) The churchyard is still 'active' IYKWIM but also has some very old headstones.....late 1700's and is a haven for wildlife. I would happily clear the brambles and over grown trees from the older part but still keeping the habitat and keep the rest tidy.............current gardener just mows the grass and then piles all the clippings in a big heap on the edge of the path and then piles all the dead flowers in their plastic wrappings on top so everybody who visits does the same along with plastic bottles/vases etc etc.......looks really ugly and disrespectful IMO...........and there are council green waste bins available:mad:
Hmmm something to think about:DBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi
