I would like to retire early but know I would be bored so this would be perfect for me......

I thought i'd be bored and lonely in giving up work for the research life. Nothing could be further from the truth. Some retired people say they didn't know how they found time for work, and I can believe that - sometimes i have to force myself to the computer to do the work i'm supposed to be doing. There are so many other things I could do instead..... In fact i had to come home from glorious Wales yesterday to cloudy middle England just so i could get some work done.

GQ - there are plenty of people who make a living house/dog/cat/horse sitting. It keeps their own living costs low and they charge a nominal fee (actually, I think the horsey ones charge a big fee...). I did it as a student. Free place to live, free food and lots of exercise walking dogs.
After I retire, and have the rest of this year to get well, I plan to be doing the house/cat and maybe dog sitting next year, I don't have enough to live on. I can take my laptop with me so I have my online surroundings with me still :D it will be great. I've already arranged a free tryout with my newly-married nephew for the first holiday he takes next year :j

I need to be kondoing like crazy right now - actually, the push is going to be on selling the things I've piled in a corner after kondoing thats already been done, a lot of it hasn't left the house. Now that the family wedding is gone and we're definitely out of flu season, I'm going to be focussing on that to get the house more streamlined kondo-fashion.

Interestingly, my health is better purely from clearing things out - less stress I suppose. It'll feel good when the Kondoed items have left the house, Karmacat.

More trade magazines read - only 5 to go now.

Today's plan is to follow up on a few things then some more reading/writing letters out in the garden to make the most of the sunshine.

ETA: Have kondoed the middle age spread slightly - trousers I wore yesterday actually did up without a fuss! Still a bit tight whilst sitting so will be glad for a bit more to leave.

Dad is off Saturday to look after his friends sisters cat for 2 weeks in Lewes (sp) Sussex no charge but he gets a free holiday :D
Then in Aug he has swapped his seaside flat with a couple(he knows) with 2 youngish kids who live in the centre of Cambridge :D so for 2 weeks he will get to do the Art galleries etc and they get to play on the beach outside his door :D
I think its a great idea and something I would love to do.

Lol the July weekend is just me and Dh on our wedding anni break but the August week everyone is coming. I think it would scare your dad if half the population of the midlands tried to squeeze into his cupboards..... Then again if we fit perhaps we could rent it as a holiday home.
I struggle posting photos on here, I have to either put them on pintrest and do a link or post them on a knitting forum I use and copy the link from there. Hedgehogs I can get away with but strange bronze Devils may take some convincing that I posted it on their site as I made it from my stashed materials.
Looking forward to meeting up again.

Just Kondoed 3/4 of a haircut for the hedge but snagged the timmer on a metal frame the neighbour had put in the hedge that I didn't find till the teeth caught in it. So I've had to stop till Dh comes home and can mend the trimmers. Most of the plants I bought have now been put in so front is looking nice.
Going to nip shops then I'll kondo the ironing pile it's not very big so won't take long.

Ooh, Mav, not *quite* sure that was meant for me, but I'll take you up on it in any case :D:o

I might join an agency, or I might do it privately, I'm sure you can pay for a CRB check on yourself.

  • Having been away for a week during which the chickens didn't get any time out of their (fairly spacious) run, the garden didn't get watered although mysteriously the weeds doubled in size and the cat embarked on a 'dirty protest' at being left alone, I'd love to have a house-sitter! Especially one that likes brambles, which are the bane of my life.

I don't usually see clients at home but I've had to agree to a meeting tomorrow. Brief panic on my part as I reviewed the state of the kitchen. Then I recalled that although it's very cluttered at the moment as I've been too busy to put stuff away, everything now has a home and it will take me all of ten minutes to tidy up and another ten to clean the floor. The days of piles of post and magazines, boxes of stuff on the floor and Stuff living permanently on the worktop are GONE!

I'd have a house-sitter, as long as they looked after my guinea pigs at the same time :) - it's costing us over £250 to have them boarded whilst we're in the US!!!

Heck greent that's a lot, shame you don't live near me I'd look after them for price of the food and your vets phone number if they needed anything doing.
Ds2 is signed up to a months summer scheme, this includes 2 five day residentials and loads of activities over the month all food and transport will be included on the residentials and snacks during the days he's only with them 9-5. We do get him back for the weekends but that is costing me £50 in total and he's a teenage boy with hollow legs.only drawback I can see is that at the end of it he gets a certificate signed by David Cameron. Still got to be a downside I suppose.

Drain covers are now all fitted and look shiny and new, old ones were taken away. Ironing is all done. Going to finish the front hedge now. Dh mended the trimmers in his dinner break.
