KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

The BDofD project will take at least another day and possibly another two days. I have washed off some mold which had colonised one of the walls (the outside wall of the house) and will be lettiing everything dry out in there for several hours before putting the contents of the cupboard back this evening - Dad did suggest they slept on the sofabed downstairs but Mum veto'd that.:rotfl:
She's rather tickled as I found a small stash of letters from the her foster-mum to her in the year of my birth, didn't even know she still had these and is happily reading them. Real blast from the past.
Tomorrow I shall re-empty the cupboard and paint it out with some leftover white emulsion to freshen it up a bit. Then I will be very circumspect about how things are stored back in there as it needs more airflow than it had, or we'll get the moldiness back again.
Righty, time to see if I can get Dad to make some decisions about some of his clothes stored in there.
ETA; Dad has decided to kondo several pairs of trousers and three thick jackets (like padded anoraks not suit jackets) are to be donated (2) and brought into service (1). Progress!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

This all sounds wonderful :j:j:j
As far as passport stamps go, I may have a confession I need to make  I begged for them, in Western Europe anyway. I was travelling about in Greece and Turkey in 1990/91, when the first Gulf War was on, and it was very definitely a case of "gimme that passport, what are you up to" - for Turkey, at Edirne (land border with Greece) I got a wonderful "stamp" the size of 6 of our everyday stamps - I've decided I'm going to cut that out and keep it with my *actual* stamps, its too lovely to die.
My sister brought me back home from our day out today, and needed to use my phone - the place is still upside down from all the de-moulding, I was a tiny bit embarrassed, I have to say. She knew about it, though, and of course it was my issue, not hers, bless her.
Hope everyone's having a really good weekend.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Not much Kondoing today. DH out on his trike at a motorbike display event. Went with DS1 to the club & had a very nice Stilton & Broccoli soup for my lunch. Also dropped in to a lovely little garden centre on the way and got my tomatoes, mini cucumbers and runner beans as I hav'n't really had time to raise from seed.. The lady who does the lunches on a Sunday wants my Slow Cooker lid and heating bit as hers has broken - result as I didn't really want it to go to landfill. DS has just bought a new (to him) TV from a friend & asked DH if we would like his old one which is newer & larger than ours.Of course DH said yes - so now I need to find a home for ours - sigh.
More ins than ours at the moment it seems.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I hope you are all enjoying the long weekend.
I've done nothing of interest today or yesterday, so am planning a little jaunt around about tomorrow. There are some nice retail parks near me, so I might pay them a little visit. I usually find that I don't even buy anything, but it's nice to get out the house and have a bit of a walk.
I've kondo'd nothing this weekend, but nothing has come in, so that's fine.
Made the mistake last night of sleeping without a pillow... A long story. Anyway, I was fine when I first woke up, and then about an hour later the left side of my neck and shoulder were chuffing agony! I've been in pain with it all day. That'll teach me.

Great idea. I found some craft magazines which had been in a plastic crate and missed the parental cull a few months ago so they will be donated soon.
Have more or less reloaded the cupboard and am looking forward to painting it tomorrow. I love painting things. Will aim to do one coat first thing in the morning and another in the afternoon - the existing emulsion which was probably original to the house has nearly been washed off. I can also see a tiny bit of emulsion needed on the ceiling of another room so shall touch that in at the same time.
Have knitted most of the random small bits of yarn from yesterday's mare's nest into my WIP (charity blanket) and shredded some stuff inc bank statements from late last millennium.
The recycling wheelie bin would have been emptied tomorrow but it'll now be Tuesday because of the Bank Holiday but it's nearly full. The refuse wheelie, which will be emptied Monday week, has only one ex-charity bag in it. We're major on recycling in this family.
Righty, onwards to poke around in Mare's Nest v2. I may be gone for some time.:pEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

OK, picture this; the Famille GQ sitting around their sitting-room with me with an orange Sainsbugs shopping bag at my feet, hauling random items out for inspection.
Me It's a fan! Opens a plastic and paper fan such as can probably be purchased in any tourist dive on the Costas. No one has been to Spain in our family. Why've you got a fan?
Mum; It's for when I'm feeling coquettish.
Me; Dad? Have you ever seen this fan before?
Dad; Never.
Me Mum! You've been coquetting with someone other than Dad?!
Other things in Mare's Nest v2 included a bamboo back-scratcher and a 1943 german bank note (?). And a marble. I think that we maybe had about 4 nets of marbles in our whole childhood, but any gathering of domestic kipple usually includes one of the following; a marble, a lego brick, a plastic dummy to fit a tiny tears doll or a barbie shoe.
Folks, if you ever lose your marbles, do feel free to PM me; they're probably over here.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Today have Kondo'd a lot of fence stain onto fence, none of which we get the benefit of viewing, as we did the neighbours side with two coats. Did one coat on our side yesterday which was much quicker due to the overlap of the boards. So far we have got through just over 10 of the 12 cans of paint. Took 9 cans to do the first coat of both sides, fear that the remaining 1 and a bit cans isn't going to be enough to do a second coat on our side. May have to visit Wickes again tomorrow although OH doesn't want to do any more tomorrow as he's been struggling on with a very sore shoulder. Bottle of wine being Kondo'ed this evening.
However, we're very pleased with the colour - Cuprinol Muted Clay. Varies between silver and a grey blue/grey pink depending on the light. Has a Mediterranean feel to it. Much nicer than the neighbour's Autumn Gold which surrounds the rest of their garden.......
Edit, managed to get some on the cat, she jumped onto the top of the 6ft fence that I'd just painted the top of. In trying to shoo her off before she walked back across the stain, I managed to get stain on her. Would she let me get near her to get it off, would she heck. Kept running away. Had to leave it to her to clean off. Just hope she'll be Ok.Make £2025 in 2025

Today I worked my way through the magazine rack and reduced the contents to a third. I also rehomed a ridiculously old PC that has been in my loft for more than 20 years.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. The bedroom has become a bit of a project lately. Bags with winter stuff half full, bags with summer stuff ready for washing, plus c*ap on almost every surface. Bah!
Decided to treat it like a mini home, Kondo style. Went through the clothes; sorted, donated, folded and put away all of them. Then paperwork - I'm not sure why I had random bits of paper in my bedroom but they're gone, either recycled or shredded. Then the dustcatchers which included some sentimental stuff. And finally Kondoed the dust. It took last evening and most of the day to get it finished, with help from the OH but it feels like a different space. I know we're not meant to do it room by room but pretending it was a miniature "home" meant it all got done in record time and now feels comfortable again.
Next stop - the spare room tomorrow ...Looking ahead0
