Working through the Caravan contents.......slowly as I'm conscious that I do not want to accumulate Justin duplicates. So - four mugs going to the sailing club as they always need loads and another four China ones along with two small China ones with a matching melamine tray gone to the CS. Fire extinguisher from the 'van to go on my boat as I'm sure one of them is well out of date. Some nice stainless steel and enamel oven trays will replace some at home. Bedding sorted and spare items that are excess also going to CS. I'd bought some nice velvety coat hangers so they will be kept to replace plastic ones. Phew - getting there but still hav'n't found what/where the Halogen oven will go - not even too sure I will keep it. Decisions Decisions!

PS: DH took over the ironing when he retired and I was still working - I just never seem to have taken the job back but I do fold and most of our stuff doesn't need ironing so it's probably a once a month stint ;)

I've moved my laptop back up to the office as I had a problem with WiFi, and needed the cable connection. Thats now fixed, but I'm staying up here for now - its warm enough, even though its snowed twice this week, briefly. But while I'm looking at email and threads on here, I can also be scanning-to-declutter :):):) and thats helping with the musty, beinning-to-be-mouldy Understairs Cupboard of Doom. Win-win.

Tatty old store hangers recycled in Ts and a pack of lovely velvet huggable type hangers purchased so I can get rid of some more ratty ones the stuff falls off.

I was reading about coat hangers the other day (exciting life I lead!) and the velvet ones are meant to be very space saving.:)

Have been and acquired more fence stain (Autumn Gold - no only kidding!), hoping that the weather stays good this weekend and we can start the project postponed from Easter. Not sure how much stain it's going to take as it's a new fence, but Wickes had a buy one get one free offer so I bought 6 cans to add to the six we'd already got cheap (dented) off the net. Can take them back if not used in the next 6 months.

Got a serves 4 chicken, veg, millionaires shortbread and bottle of wine in the M&S dine in for a tenner so had a MSE morning so far.

Yes they are much slimmer than the 'normal' hangers.

Back from work, had a very joyful day. Out tonight with Dh work friends so just going to feed the lads. Then have a quick tidy round, all the stuff that was meant to left the house today which was good.

Hey Karmacat, I have a desk in my back bedroom which I used when I worked at home one day a week and the modem is up there so I was plugged in during that time. I begrudged putting the heating on at home because we were forced to work at home and I felt I was subsidising the running costs of the work office, iyswim. I quickly realised that the room got most sun and because it is tiny there was often enough 'solar gain' to keep it at a comfortable temperature so my little desk was put to use one day a week. I had no need for a full on home office. Since finishing my office job I had stopped using the room except for storage.

I have just realised that the room has a great aspect and is warm even when it is snowing in April!! So this week I have been doing my domestic admin, emailing friends, writing extensive ToDo lists (!), and some sewing in there rather than the downstairs lounge and it is really pleasant. I am not sure I would have utilised it more fully in this way before MK  because i), it contained too much Stuff before kondo and ii) I hadn't got into the habit of finding joy in the things / spaces I already had. Now I love that room whereas before it was the room of doom. What a difference the Magic has made  :j

If I ever get time to sit and read for an hour or so (not happened yet!!), I shall be in there and I may even refer to it as my Study because that sounds a lot posher than 'the back bedroom' :rotfl::rotfl:

That's lovely, MMF007! I confess, my house isn't particularly efficient for solar gain - very few windows to the south :( tho my eastward living room faces the rising sun :) The office and the kitchen are both at the back of the house, facing west, and the kitchen is often the warmest room in the house (the windows, and the door, are the most efficient!).

Bedrooms 2 and 3 will change massively when I retire (in 17 weeks!!!) I was going to move the single bed into the other room, but maybe I'll move the desk etc - I think it's got more light, more accessible light anyway, in there (and its got the external wall to the south). I might have to wander around with a thermometer for a bit to make the best use of the ambient heat - I don't care which is which, thankfully.

Very exciting! And as you say, kondo helps us imagine new ways to use our spaces.

I think I might start calling it The Study too :) sounds a lot more upmarket than "office" :) ha!

  • I used to have an Office. It had a desk, a PC with monitor, keyboard and mouse; a filing cabinet, bookcase and I hardly ever used it.

Pre MK I'd ditched the PC for a laptop. Then I realised I didn't need the desk. I now use a little Edwardian writing bureau which I already owned - the drawers hold paper and envelopes, the pigeon-holes have stamps, labels, stapler etc. The Edwardians sadly didn't anticipate the size of a laptop :rotfl: so when the flap is closed it has to sit on top. The bookcase holds books, the printer, paper (in a magazine holder laid on its side) and my filing system which is now a few ring binders.

I work part-time from home and this meets all my needs - I Kondoed the mouse and keyboard as I never used them. I kept the monitor but realised the other day that it isn't even compatible with the laptop! Time to Freecycle it I think. This is all in my spare room - if it's needed for visitors I close the desk, tuck the shredder under the desk and it's ready.

I should add that pre MK the writing bureau was FULL, and I really mean full, of Komono. Freeing it up for proper use is a minor miracle!

    :p I can't tell you how happy I am about it :j

Further thought on bedrooms 2 and 3: I *will* keep the desk in the current office/study, and move the single bed into what's now the counselling room, bedroom 3 - but I'll also put an armchair in there, and when I'm just *reading* something from my laptop, I'll pop in there. That will suit me health-wise as well, to rest my neck :j

Am carrying on with paperwork - my first ever passport is a victim of mould, the one that proves you still had to have passport stamps for Europe, back in the day. If Schengen collapses, that time might come again - meantime, my passport stamps are very pretty :p
