My new house is like a building site right now. Everything is strewn around or waiting to be unpacked. My dds keep helpfully bringing out a box for me to unpack and put away but don't seem to realise that as yet there is not anywhere to unpack it in.

I have decluttered a bedroom by getting two small bedrooms knocked into one downstairs for me. Once the carpet is down I can hang the new curtains, get the wall headboard put up and furniture put back and filled with stuff that has been properly sorted through.

Builders have gutted the downstairs bathroom and it is now an empty shell (the oh so beautiful 1980's coloured bath and basin is in the skip) :j It will be replaced with pale marble coloured wall and floor tiles, a walk in shower and white modern loo and basin as well as modern heated towel rail and small slim set of storage so shampoo, shower gel etc can be put out of sight.

Living room has had the large ugly stone fireplace removed, replastered and decorated and it is much more usable as a space. Once the new carpet is in I can shorten the new full length curtains and that room will be sorted.

As a glutton for punishment I am getting a new kitchen as well!

Elona, just think how lovely it will all be when complete, and how easy to live in :)

Could I suggest considering underfloor heating for your bathroom? We have Italian marble walls, with slate floor tiles, and wish we'd put it down as the bathroom is chilly, especially in the early hours in winter!

    Hi all,

I'm a Konvert - bought Spark Joy yesterday, a significant moment in itself as I have not bought a new book for years.

They tend to be recycled or charity shop acquisitions.

So far on clothes, Kondoed my bedroom drawers, how liberating.

This is a third or fourth attempt by myself to shed the clutter and 'possession protect' feeling I've gravitated to from a very young age.

I've flyladied and decluttered on so many occasions but its the 'next level' stuff of connecting self to stuff and being in control of the process that is really resonating with me.

Personally its been an incredibly awful few years with lots of family drama which I've found has derailed me on so many levels.

Strangely, for the first time in since I can remember, I feel quite serene, in control and purposeful.

A few weeks ago, again recovering from illness, I realised that if anything should happen to me I really could not bear the thought that my child or Husband would have to sort though the crapola to deal with my stuff. So even this small start with clothes already has me feeling better about that.

Thank you for all the ideas and contributions so far, I'll be cracking on some more today.:D

Me too! And I don't even have a partner right now, or kids, so if I suddenly popped my clogs, it would be my sister who got landed with it, and she really has enough on her plate.

I've delved into the bottom of the musty cardboard box thats held travel journals and paperwork, and discovered my letters written to my mum and dad in the late 1970s  I only started to phone them instead of writing in about '84 ... and my mum had kept them all, even the envelopes, wrapped them nicely and gave them all to me about ten years ago :rotfl: I'll scan a representative half dozen and throw them out, with love and kisses.

Definitely get underfloor heating. Tiles are cold. You don't have to use it - but you can't change your mind after the tiles are down.

I'm just having the second bathroom done and wasn't going to put a heating mat in, but decided it made sense to put it in now.

Forgive me for I have sinned! I bought 3 new tops from sale at work , but have in mind at least 2 I can kondo ,.I have decided that I don't suit t.shirts I have a small back but large bosoms ! and plain t.shirts never look nice for long on me ,, if I buy the 10 it fits but shows all lumps and bumps,! If I buy 12 it's too big round the neck and shoulders. So my aim is for tops with some kind of decoration be it a little lace or crochet and a loose fit then I can buy a plain colour but has interest and a 10 won't cling.
Also purchased a new duvet cover for dgsons' room I have recently been spending more time in there myself as dh snoring has been really bad and I haven't been able to sleep, so much as I love minions :D I have got a stripe beige and blue so will still be suitable for dgson but fulfills the seaside colours brief I love.
I will look to painting the wall a pale blue when the weather improves, I have a tin which should cover the 2 walls that are painted green at the mo, the other walls are white. I can always mix the blue with white paint as it's quite a deep tone ( it's farrow and ball Lulworth blue ).
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.

Ok, so I've made a decision, because I already know where this goes if I don't act on it now.

    The car boot pile....

    It never leaves the house.

The dilemma is "Yes we could do with the money"....however we never get to that point of making any money.

So I'm RIGHT NOW going to LET GO and say thank you also (also huge shift away from the 'it may come in useful later')....and I'm taking the bedroom full which we cannot get into, right now to the charity shop.

    Well done Triker!

I gave up on car boot and ebay several years ago. I just enjoy the CS gift aid statements when I fill in my tax return.

    It is done!:D

Although a slight blip as OH came home just as i'd finished loading the car and complained that this 'could' have made some money....

I explained we cannot get into one room because of it, the weather forecast is awful for this weekend and there was no guarantee we would have sold much of it anyway.:o

So a very happy local charity shop and a very cleansing feeling so I can get on with the rest of my Konmari-ing.
