KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

40 items mostly left the house today. Some went to the cs bin at the library but it was full to the brim. I have told the staff but it meant the second bag will have to wait until it is emptied (and I'm not emptying it out to see how many of the first 20 items have not gone (possibly 7).
More shuffling of sewing/ buttons and curtain stuff (rings/ hooks and header tape) into 'straw' (heavy cardboard base) boxes which actually hold more and take up less shelf space. A few bits thrown and the assortment of old tins they were in have gone in the recycling bin.
Will sort again in a few weeks but at the moment I just want to make space for the builder to come and do the 'big jobs' and to keep everything safe whilst he's doing it.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
My tv went on the blink, so I put it on freecycle.
A nice gentleman collected it earlier this evening with a non-working Xbox console to use at a young menders group
However, the paperwork is still hanging over my head ....
I have been dealing with the new incoming paperwork as it comes in. It is just the historical stuff that I am having a hard time with. I have recycled around 6 large bin bags full already, but still have 5 of those collapsible crates to work my way through.
So that I don't give up kondoing altogether I have been working through all my kitchen cupboards. Those are now sorted. Next is the pantry. One shelf at a time. I hope to have finished the kitchen by the end of April and will then move onto another category / room.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

Great results Springdreams!
A crate or 5 of paperwork is a lot, even handling it must be hard work, never mind sorting and disposal. Could you maybe take 1/2 at a time? Over the course of less than 2 weeks (doing 10 goes), you'd have it mostly gone
Physically a crate of clothes would weigh less and contain fewer individual items, so just on that basis alone it would be easier to deal with. Then you have to really concentrate on each doc, so that adds to the issue. Also, there's more decision-making which you feel could really matter*(whereas other categories don't really engender fear of doing the wrong thing). And of course, there's the issue of safe disposal, which also reqiures more physical effort!
It's easy to see why the category is not quick to do. *it rarely does!
Off to register online as self-employed. My lovely neighbour and her friend both want me to help out with chores etc on a weekly paid basis so why not, I say. Have said goodbye to my profession, can look back with some satisfaction at the work I did, but I need a complete change for the sake of my health. Our great leader from the land of the rising sun has a lot to answer for
Quick shout out to GQ - Are you alright my dear? We are missing you.

Lots of folk have found this catagory difficult for many reasons but once done, blimey it feels good!!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
The last couple of days I have been working on work paperwork in my office and have shredded so much. Why I don't keep on top of it more regularly I will never know. What is left now fits back where it should and is filed so I can find it if I need it. It is amazing how much paper weighs on you.
I also sent off a parcel that should have been dealt with a few weeks ago so am less one large box.0 -
3 more fr88cycle things ready for collection...........just hope they turn up! I like fr88cycle but sometimes people can take the p!ss - say they want an item, arrange collection then say they have changed their mind......but not as bad as those who just dont turn up at all. I no longer 'wait in' and just leave the stuff in a convenient place in the garden. Those who dont collect or mess about I take a note of and I never offer to them again! I really dont like those who ask for everything, no matter what, I suspect they are selling on and for me that is not in the spirit of the arrangement. Unless of course it states in the offer 'box of XYZ suitable for carboot etc' I am so hard nosed too as I dont like a long email with a back story:eek: As I live in a rural location I also prefer to offer to people who live within a 10/15 mile radius. This came about when some one did a 200 mile round trip for a box of 10 board markers...........I felt uneasy about it on all sorts of levels!Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I cleaned out my kitchen cupboards and fridge freezer yesterday, but unfortunately didn't find anything to Kondo except for some raspberry ice cream.:D0

I find it fastest to look through such piles for just one category, for instance bank statements. Everything else is ignored until all the bank statements are put away. Next round, I look for pension papers, next round for... errmmm..car insurance, etc.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -
For paperwork I asked a friend to come round and help. Sorted the big pile into categories - think it was bank, car, dwp, pay slips, council and bills, recycling and shredding. Any bank letters or part slips older than 6 years were shredded as we worked :-)
It was still exhausting and draining to do, but you will get there in the end x:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Oh dear, bags of stuff to the CS yesterday and today I bought 5 books from them. Never mind I will redonate them when they are read.Sell £1500

Just been through a CoD in my office and chucked some joyless carp. Will need OH's help with the bottom drawer which contains cables...... I know not what for in the main, although I binned a mobile phone charger as I can see the connector is the wrong size.
I did find the details for a rubber stamp set I use for my business and which desperately needs a new ink pad. Managed to find one on Amazon and use up a £7 voucher I had from when they were doing a special offer a few weeks back. Most of it went on paying postage. In the past I'd have scraped around wasting time and money looking for something to make up so I got free postage. The voucher was free, I need the pads, life's too short and no joyless item will accompany the inkpads into my home.Make £2025 in 2025
