OK, this is my first real day of early retirement ( finished my office job mid March but been running round since then visiting family spread far and wide). I am indulging myself with this morning's relaxation after getting up at 6.15 every week day for nearly 28 years for the morning commute.....:D

I have lots of domestic jobs to do and some of them need doing before the weekend when I am having friends over for an elongated afternoon tea :) I have written a list and shall be ticking things off ASAP!

Yesterday I kondo'd some HM marmalade and biscuits to my friend who has just had surgery.

It's great to see news kondo-ites posting. As I have mentioned I still have a way to go but every time I open a neat cupboard or drawer, or go into the (almost completed) room of doom I am delighted :j

So I'll get off and meet the day head on. Look out Stuff, here I come!

    Have a great day Everyone,

    M
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

My new colleague started today; she will help me out 2 days per week for the next 3 months, and I feel such a relief! The backlog was beyond acceptable, and I was so overwhelmed I got hardly anything done. Today was really productive; it's a smart, kind student, asking the right questions. And I got to clear lots of stuff from my desk all by myself, too!

I took four bags of clutter to the charity shop today. It has been a great help talking on here, I had sort of given up because it is such a struggle to have a tidy house with a husband like mine but I am hoping he will see the benefits and join in.

Ah prudence don't feel guilty, I don't think you have anything to be ashamed about.

If you love your clothes and you wear them then there's no shame in that - especially as so many of them are from charity shops anyway.

If you were up to your eyes in debt with a wardrobe full of designer clothes with tags still on then yes maybe you would need to examine your conscience but I think you are being a bit hard on yourself.

You are not to blame for Syrian refugees having nothing, it's just a very sad fact of life. And.........you are very kindly doing what you can to help.

I understand you replacing the t shirts for something a bit more flattering to your shape. That makes perfect sense. I never wear t shirts just on their own for similar reasons........:rotfl: I do find them useful though under jackets or cardigans, because I can't wear button up shirts or blouses. They always gape open in the wrong places......:rotfl:

You can wear t shirts as layers though, under something else for winter warmth instead of vests. I wear t shirts around the house in the summer, then they get relegated to vest status, then they end up as work wear, gardening and then eventually they become my decorating clothes or they get cut up into cleaning cloths.

I am working towards minimalism and I have got rid of a mountain of stuff. I have even parted with lots of clothes.......however I will never go for a completely minimalist wardrobe.

I am a bit of a charity shop queen and I still have lots of Clothes and I will still buy more if I see something that Truly sparks joy. I quite cheerfully admit to enjoying clothes and I like having lots of choice.

My sister and even my late mum used to "shop from my wardrobe" :rotfl: I regularly give bags full to my niece. She is autistic and cannot bear to go shopping so I often pick things up with her specially in mind.

If I really love something I will cherish it and keep it for ever. I have some items, especially coats, that are decades old. if a did a proper costs per wear analysis they would cost next to nothing......especially as most of them were bought in either charity shops or heavily discounted in the sales.

Don't feel embarrassed, just keep what you truly love, plus a few spares for mucky jobs or lolling around the house, and then donate the rest.

Up at silly o'clock this morning - still coughing. I'm finding it exhausting! Did some filing in the RoD and found some bits for the CS bag. Took all but one of my old knitting patterns and a load of dress patterns, a crochet book & some other odds and sods to the Hospice craft shop. I asked if they'd like my button box 'cos they seem to have plenty already but they said yes please so I've sorted that ready to go too. DH was going to dig over both my raised beds for me ready for planting. He did one & then it tipped down. At least one is done so I can get the spuds in!
Baby steps today but at least Stuff has gone OUT!
Also got my friend and her DH to witness our wills and we did theirs as we couldn't do anything in the garden!

I'd been decluttering my clothes, but not kondoing them ... then the roof got hit by Storm Katie, and I had to turf everything out of the built in wardrobe beneath the hit. Now thats been repaired, I still don't have the energy to actually kondo, but I've put things back into my two wardrobes **logically** instead of just where they came from :o

I'd no idea I had so much stuff :o

One useful thing I did was sort hangars too - I had a spell of replacing the crappy things I'd collected, by gradually buying sets of wooden ones, 3 for £1.50 at the time, in Golders Green. Plus I've bought quite a few of those "press" hangars for trousers etc, as part of mystery shopping expeditions in times gone by. So my hangars are really good quality, but I have about ten too many :D certainly not throwing them out, and since they're actually *nice*, will give first refusal to my niece, currently buying a property.

Lots of items gifted back to the universe today, bras to collection bank, old jewellery cashed in for £45 quid and unwanted gifts exchanged in shop for something useful (birthday cards)
I'm not sure if having the "handbag insert" bag is very kondo but it's working for me...I'm emptying my bag every day. Keys and purse chucked in if just going local, handbag inset chucked in if going far. I can actually find my tissues/gum/paracetamol/handcream for once!

I've been using a handbag insert for years - its one of those little in-flight bags ( from when I used to travel for work) that and my phone, keys and purse and I'm ready to go! Must confess I do have another one JIC but use it in my suitcase for scissors, plasters, sewing kit etc and I store my suitcase lock and keys in it too so I always know where they are!

Have stalled a little today, folded some clothes for return to the drawers, but not much else.

One thing I got rid of at the weekend was an old Denby green plate that had been lurking in the garden, left by the previous owner, we've been here 21 years........... why on earth did that hang around for so long!
