Now I can see various clubs forming, the throwing away underwear on holiday, the odd socks club, the odd shoes club. It is amazing that all the things I thought were me being odd/scatty are much more common than I ever imagined. Maybe I am normal after all.

I belong to all those clubs :) I once wore odd shoes - odd in that they were different sizes. DD2 had same shoes but in a size bigger.........as I leave the house an hour and half before her she was not best pleased she had odd sized shoes on for school!!!!

I have seen other people with inside-out tops, so am not unique in this.:rotfl:

I have a work colleague who is so superstitious if she has an item on inside out she will not change in under any circumstances........I have sat in very important meetings with her with a top that is obviously inside out:rotfl: and she has announced yes she knows and no she is not changing it:rotfl::rotfl:

Wrapping paper storage: ours are kept at the back of the clothes hanging space in a large glass chromatography tank. I know very odd!.............. OH did his post grad research in a large lab. When the university did a revamp of the labs there was a lot of 'throwing out' and this was one of the things that he thought would be useful:o

My neighbour had their two grandsons visiting, who are only a few months apart in age, but one lives abroad. Turned out they both had the same style of shoes. One returned home by plane wearing one of his own shoes, and the other was his cousin's, a size too small.

baby steps in the right direction:

*created a new fb account and have registered for a local selling page to see if I can shift some things that have not yet moved via Gumtree.

*washing bits ready to go in the next chazza bag.

*packaging from new coffee table went straight into the car to be recycled at the tip.

I tried to buy new curtains for the living room yesterday. The only pack left in stock in the size we needed had damaged packaging, but we decided to risk it. Got home to discover that the curtains were two different sizes... and neither were the size it said on the packet :rotfl: They'll be going back today. The 2 new canvasses we brought home have spent the night leaning against the wall. We've decide both spark joy... now we need to figure out how to hang them!

Great article thank you for sharing the link.

At the beginning of last year we got garden wheelie bins, my mum gave me 2 packs of house number stickers for them and they've sat on my hall shelf for almost a year waiting to be stuck on. It just taken me less than two mins to do the job and bin the maiming packaging. Why was I putting it off.

:) Great article from Zen Habits, thank you.

Came back from work and found that the two things I had out for collection have been taken by their respective freeglers and thank-you messages received, so that's all good.

I just adore freegle, particularly for the random stuff which you suspect a charity shop wouldn't thank you for.

Have also kondo'd a quantity of baked goods into the colleagues so the amount of Stuff on the premises still going down.

I am wearing one of two identical shirts which were cast-offs from the parental home. The sizing on the body is OK but the arms are too short so I will wear and launder each of them (they were stored washed but got a bit crinkled over at Mum's and then they can be donated. I have enough tops not to need to fight with ones with too-short sleeves.

:o My gingham mug which I didn't want to part with despite its whoppng great chip has now gone and the bins have been emptied, so I don't need to fret about it.

Righty, just going to have a tidy-round (I'm inclined to untidiness) and then put the kettle on.

  • Well, I've attacked the kitchen big time. Changed places of various equipment as I think it will work better that way, one cupboard emptied all over the table are surrounding area and I have been cleaning as I go. Very industrious, but at the moment the men have come home to a bomb site. Have to try and make some space so I can cook dinner then I intend to at least get the cupboard washed out tonight so I can re arrange and discard contents tomorrow. Feeling strangely motivated today, not sure where it's come from but taking advantage whilst I can. I found some old plastic containers does any one know if I can put them out for recycling, they don't have any helpful marks to say, far too old for that?

Hello! Another de-lurker here. I've been kondo-ing for months, and while clothes were easy and paperwork is now organised very well (you really can't just throw all paper out as Marie advises, that's going a step too far), books have been tough. I love reading but for a year or two now I haven't got any new ones because I suddenly realised that I could get them from the library instead of from ASDA in a 2 for £7 deal. It was a real DOH! moment. So I have only got rid of the overflow, you know, the ones that lie on top of other books instead of finding a place on the bookshelf. I've put all books in alphabetical order but I'm not getting rid of any more as full bookshelves actually spark joy for me, as do plants and pictures on the walls. I'm never going to be a minimalist!

I have gone through other categories and got rid of loads of things through recycling, charity shops and ultimately the bin. The worst was OH's computer room which had a huge desk in it. OH has dementia and I need to change this room into a proper bedroom again so I basically had to clear the whole room out and get Age UK to dismantle the desk so the council could do a bulk collection. It was hard work as OH was a bit of a hoarder and Justin Case was his best friend!

The other day I kondo'd my iPad bookmarks as they'd got out of hand. So now they are neatly in folders and I can find particular ones again!

So the next step is to re-visit pesky komono things. I've also just seen that the Spark Joy book I've reserved three months ago from the library is finally "in transit" to me! :)

Finally I'd like to share the cleverness of a friend of mine who brought wrapped presents to a meet-up of our movie club last Saturday, handed out tombola tickets and basically got rid of a lot of her tat that way while appearing incredibly generous at the same time. She's a crafty one and I only wish I'd thought of that! I brought some books along but I placed them on the table telling people to help themselves. They didn't. Next time I'll also trick people into accepting them as tombola wins! :rotfl:

I've managed a tiny bit of KM today, or rather the cat did, a toy given by a friend she didn't like the friend enquired about the toy, I was able to give it back to her for her to try with her cat.

I also got rid of a bit more komono out of my car.

Also KM'd a UFO from the freezer which turned out to be venison curry, yummy.

I've realised that while OH is working away from home, I'm comfort eating dark chocolate. I have put the choc stash on the top shelf in the cupboard and will try not to move onto lumps of cheese or nuts.
