KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

We are back home and I have just made a list of priority jobs for the week ahead. I have a lot on for the next fortnight and a bit of project planning will not go amiss, otherwise I'll get it all in the wrong order!
I am pleased to say that although I still have a fair bit of kondo-ing to do it was a pleasure to come in and see less clutter, more brightness where the recent decorating has enhanced the LR, and to be able to quickly get things put away into the appropriate locations. In the past I would have procrastinated about the 'putting away' for a few days or more. The KM method does help keep places tidy!
I did also notice that much of the Stuff that still bugs me is DH's. As a few have said, there is still resistance among OH's who have not yet got the message. Funnily enough I was 'told off' for bringing another 8 empty jars into the abode, for future jam making. I have just used 9 on the last lot of marmalde! I was cross with this negativity because I have the waiting jars in a tidy basket, out of sight! AND (*rant continues*), DH has far more clutter than I do in the kitchen/diner. Grrrrrr
On my to do list for the week ahead I shall have to put 'Educate DH on KM magic' ! :rotfl:
Right-ho, off to rustle up something from the freezer (that remains orderly and easy to choose from :T).

Forgot to say....
Mrs MP, your post about the fabric your mil kindly gave you made me howl with laughter!! I could just picture it, and I imagined an astonished look on your face when you saw it.
In all seriousness though, what a brilliant and kind idea to use some for the children under going such horrid medical treatment.

Have tackled one of the many sheds.......some large items now on fr**cycle. Some bits and pieces in bin - aminly some old shopping bags and some bubble wrap. Some boxes of stuff allocated to take to work. Some things straight into CS bag and some other stuff I am looking at selling in a couple of weeks time at a fundraiser I am involved in- mainly toys that I have purchased for use at work but have decided to get rid as I a sick of storing in-between uses or some of the good quality toys I kept of my DDs that havent lost their appeal or value - will out those on an internet site. I really wanted it all sorted ans stored back in a way that I can get to easily but its just started raining so I have quickly dumped it all back in - all in stacking boxes/crates with lids so easily done but not in a convenient order  Hopefully the fr**cycle stuff will go quickly and as soon as CS is full again that will be off. There has been a leak in the shed over winter I thought I may have had some stuff that had died in storage but I have lucky:o
I am hoping to do a second shed tomorrow:eek:Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Some witty person, I think on MSE, once remarked that odd socks are the larval form of coat-hangers.
It makes sense when you think about it. People rarely buy coat-hangers but everyone has too many. And missing socks. I suspect they metamophasise secretively from socks to hangers, in the corners of bedrooms, with the dust bunnies as nursemaids.
This is why, no matter how diligently you add socks to your odd sock receptacle, you will never be able to match up more than 50% of the oddities on your very best day. The rest are now coat-hangers.
Or the washing machine ate them.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Odd socks : I have a bag of odd socks and every now and then play a match up game.........I find it therapeutic and feel a bit triumphant when I get a nice pile of matched socks........I hate the black school socks and will not miss those. My plan is that at the end of this school year to gather them all up and put into a clothing bank.....with some satisfaction! Personally I wear highly patterned or fun socks ( with animals or faces on etc !) And I wear these for work............I usually have a group of mad frogs at my feet for a few minutes a couple of times a day and I find if they have something to concentrate on it helps!!!
I also tend to wear zany shoes too for the same reason. - Camper twins are my all time favourite
HOWEVER from 1st April to as long into October as I can I dont wear socks ........so the sock draw is beautifully tidy with rolled socks in colour/theme sets for about 6 months of the year :rotfl:

So, after two days of pretty solid labour, we have kondoed the garage (as in emptied and de cluttered and cleaned) and then kondoed two sheds (as in literally knocked them down). The skip is full, we have added a wardrobe that we had to break up due to carpet moth and has since just been stored at the side of the house, three beds that had been stored in the garage just in case (yeah, I know), a dining table that died in storage, a load of pictures (ditto) and load of random timber stored at the side of the house. We have slabbed over an area at said side of house for the plastic storage thingy that OH is open to now.
The garden is a tip in the shed area but will come good over the summer I hope.
We've been burning a load of wood all day and cooked lunch on the chimenea/bbq and are now cooking tea
And I wore some odd socks. :rotfl:
I'm happy.....:j (though am stiffening up rapidly as I type)I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

That theory would explain why coat hangers appear under my wardrobe, with watchful dust bunnies lurking in the corner...
When my boys were both at high school with a fairly strict uniform policy, DS1 wore black socks and DS2 wore grey. They were each bought three multipacks of 5 pairs at the start of each school year, and as they all matched each other they were easy to sort! DS2 went on to wear brightly coloured striped or patterned socks through sixth form and uni, but has recently gone back to matched pairs as he feels he needs to set an example to the students he lectures2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Mils clock she dropped has been mended so can be returned to her. Managed to mend the lovely joyful photo frame I was given at Christmas - it's a lovely pottery one with a print of DGSs hand on but it was put together very shoddily so fell apart, I've managed to strip it back and it now looks solid.
I have some jeans to take in for dd1 so will do them this week and they can be returned to her.
Have a big pile of toys and stuff we are taking over to dd2 for DGS party next weekend and none of it will be coming back!
I've seen some rather joyful coat hangers in tesco which are very tempting but I've so far resisted. I do however have a carrier bag full of broken and unjoyful spare ones to take to their recycling bin.SPC~12 ot 124

The tale of odd socks has reminded me of something I did once that caused great amusement to many. My husband was working nights, I think he was an Inspector at the time, might have been a DS. Anyway he fell into bed just as I was getting up. I went and had a shower and got dressed and realised I had left my shoes in the bedroom, I sneaked in and didn't turn the light on and found my shoes and set off to work. A colleague started to laugh, I looked down and I had on one navy blue shoe and one bottle green shoe. They were an identical style and felt like a pair but didn't look quite right. It was a very long day!Sell £1500

Mil went out in odd shoes once, I'd got to hers and she was all ready and the taxi arrived soon after me, I wasn't until I was helping her get dressed after her check up I realised she had one lace up and one slip on shoe. They were both beige so she said it was an easy mistake to make.SPC~12 ot 124
