I can't believe how many odd socks there are in the world! There is definitely a sock monster in my house and he never eats a pair. Odd socks are the way to go, I swear the stress level in my life when I decided to just wear odd socks. Life's too short to worry about odd socks.
:) You could make it your thing. Read a journo describing a male friend who always did wear odd socks. Very different. It was just his thing, something he did. Imagine how soothing life would be if you just had a basket of socks and threw any which came your way into it with gay abandon.

Come the morning, you'd say to yourself Hmm, I feel that today is a red sock left foot day and a stripy sock right foot day.

If anyone would pass comment, you could just tell them you'd got another 'pair' at home just like these ones.:rotfl:

Or maybe recovering kondoites could get together at swapmeets. An auctioneer could hold up each lonesome sock to the audience: what am I bit for a navy-background-white-polkadot ladies size 4-7 sock? Anyone willing to rehome this sock with one of theirs?

I finally got to the end of paper!
Folder 1 - certificates (easy to take out to job interviews)
Folder 2 - appliance instruction booklets
Folder 3 - annual statements (mortgage, pension)
Folder 4 - regular bills (water, elec, phone, rent, insurance)
Have ordered a wrapping paper organiser, cannot wait until it arrives as that is one area which keeps getting messy.

Phew! Finally finished reading all of the messages on this thread!

Can I join please? I've been Kondoing for a month or so now, read the book, and so far have done my clothes, books and paperwork, and am now doing all the little categories. Have also had DH do his clothes and books.

I'm finding it really good, although I've found certain categories harder than others...paperwork was especially hard, but books were really easy, which surprised me. I'm finding the little categories really difficult as I don't really know which to do first/next...I've managed stationery (needed a metaphorical kick up the backside from DH to finish that one!) and have also done my craft supplies, which was quite easy as my tastes in cross stitch patterns have changed a lot since I first started.

Not sure how much has left the house, but a lot :T At least 100 items of clothing, four big boxes of books and about two full wheelie bins of shredded paper...I had bank statements etc going all the way back to 1992

Looking through old bank statements we realised that we had MPPI on our first joint mortgage which we paid for over 10 years, despite moving house and changing mortgage company during that time. I had completely forgotten about this, so have put in a claim which fingers crossed will get us something back.

Today I sorted through one of the storage containers in our bathroom and found 35 (yes 35 ) disposable razors that DH had bought. I've left them in a line on the sofa as a little present for when he comes in from his night shift :rotfl:

Was also round at my parent's on Friday and they were decorating the little bedroom, so had all the furniture out of the room, and were discussing why they needed it all to go back into what is essentially a second spare bedroom. Mum opened the door of the built in cupboard and the first thing to be seen is a jacket she wore to my wedding back in 1999, which she admits she hated even then...but she can't get rid of it (even though she will never wear it and the sight of it makes her cross) as, wait for it, it was expensive :wall:
  • A wrapping paper organiser... hmm sounds like an idea!! Mines is a mess as well. Right enough I am famous for my atrocious wrapping skills so maybe I should ditch the paper and go for experience vouchers???
Spent about three hours in the 'style mile' of a large city today, my two friends bought loads, I did extensive bra trying on. What did I buy??? NOTHING!
But.... I have earmarked several bra investment pieces which I have budgeted for next payday.
I felt so serene and felt detached from that impulsive behaviour. Ooohhh nice top! Remember you binned a top like that because your chest makes it look horrendous?? And so on....

For wrapping paper storage I did this

    http://www.alejandra.tv/blog/2011/09/how-to-store-wrapping-paper/

inside my airing cupboard door. Instead of the metal holding the top half, I used elastic pinned to the door the same width as the holder. It works very well for me.

This is the one I ordered....my storage space is "under the couch" so this will be ideal for shoving under/pulling out as needed

Op Our wrapping paper is stored in 2 tall gift bags in the tiny attic cupboard - one for Christmas and one for birthdays. Christmas decorations, cards & gift tags and ribbon are also in there, tucked at the back until November. I can see exactly what there is for any occasion without buying more storage solutions :)

Talking of Tax rebates we are waiting on a big one we are owed but as you know HMRC are really quick to take it but not as quick at paying you back :( So will have to get GQ here or just jump though a few more hoops for a few more weeks /months/years

    :) Morning all.

Hello and welcome to the madhouse, easylife73. Sounds like you've been going gangbusters already. And I do know the :wall:feeling of dealing with the but-I-paid-good-money-for-this argument, in myself and in others.

Yup, you did pay good money for X. In the past. Once you wore it, most of the value of X disappeared. Heck, most of the value disappeared the second you walked out of the shop with it. The rest of its value is in its utility. If you don't use it, it has no value to you. If you don't get it into the hands of someone who will use it, it has no value to anyone else.

Eventually, you will die. And someone else will have to deal with this item. I can betcha 99.99% of the time, they will not be cooing with joy at the chance of getting their hands on it. Instead, there will be lots of sighs and OMGs! and it will be added to the discards and may end up in textile recycling but, more realistically, will probably be landfilled. See, by holding on too long, you've killed it.

You paid good money for it, although it was never satisfactory, and you kept it out of resentment of the unsatisfactoriness. Every time you see it, you get a jolt of dissatisfaction and negativity over the money spent. How many jolts has this thing delivered already? How many more opportunities will it give to jolt you back to bad emotions?

:o Today, I will part with a couple of things I will regret losing. Not because they're national treasures, but because I really like them. The aforementioned wrap-dress is going into the ragbag, and my favourite mug, the red gingham one, is going in the bin.

The favourite mug sustained a mighty ding on the rim in July 2015. I noticed it just after my brother left - he maintains he didn't clunk it against the tap but I think he must have done. It was a chazzer mug, I wouldn't have paid more than 50p for it, probably only paid 20p, but I like it, dammit.

I've been holding onto that mug in hopes of finding an identical secondhand one and only then releasing it, but have got tired of seeing the chip in use and reminding myself not to serve a visitor tea in that mug. I bought a new 50p mug of the same size and shape, but a different pattern, yesterday. It's having it's inaugral flight as my tea mug right now, and I will let the other one go when I put out the rubbish and recycling.
