Morning all! I woke up yester worrying about what to do with my 'work mug' when I leave next week. I have [STRIKE]plenty[/STRIKE] too many at home and they are totally different so not fetching it home. So, leave it as a spare for visitors or take it to CS?

As I was washing it up I noticed that it was quite badly scratched on the inside (looks like my ring caught it while wiping it out?). So can't pass it on so I'm going to pre-fess (like confess but before?!), I am going to ceremoniously smash it as I leave. Childish but somehow I think one needs to mark a major event with something and this is calorie-free satisfaction :rotfl::j It is bringing me a lttile zing of naughty pleasure just thinking about this wonton act of rebellion. I usually follow the rules!

    Have a lovely day everyone!

    M

PS, I am very careful with things and never wasteful but allow me this one indulgence, as it is not fit to bring joy to anyone else?
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Did anyone watch how to shop well for less last night? It could have had the sub title filling your house with duplicates because you binge shop. I honestly couldn't believe how much stuff they had and how flippantly they shopped. I know a lot of that is for the camera but it was obvious where their money was going.

I watched it...to be honest I was a bit aghast by the amount of clothes that they had and their children had - no wonder they couldn't afford a bathroom.

Think that they need to do a year of not buying it themselves....It was a weird programme though...still get more stuff but for cheaper?!?

    Have a good day all!

  • So the dreaded exam has been kondoed - YAY :j Exam result in April..:(

So now no exam for a month and now I am thinking about the house and clothes and stuff that is in the house...

Will start on underwear & tights tonight - they have already had one cull, so another one tonight (that is if I don't fall asleep first).

Then over the weekend, will go either go through my clothes and then CDs and DVDs. Am trying to get all my western clothes into one cupboard and then start thinking about what to do with all my Indian outfits. There is a charity near me that will take them, as there is no-one in the family that is going to India soon either.

    Wish me luck!

  • I didn't watch the programme as I thought it would just annoy me too much! As Mavvy says, up to them how they spend their money.

MF007, I love the idea of 'pre-fessing'! I think some sort of gesture on leaving your job is essential, having said that I don't think I did anything (apart from handing in my security pass and the evil BlackBerry). As I didn't have a leaving present (asked for donations to charity instead) they'd wrapped up some corporate gifts like a mug, stress ball etc. I put them in the CS bag as soon as I got home- no way I wanted a mug with the company name on to remind me of the job!

A bit late to the party with this but this thread doesn't half move fast!
My bed is a metal framed king size the bed and matress are at least 15 years old  I sometimes think the matress should be changed but they are soo expensive and I have a topper on it so doesn't feel bad , I don't buy divan style as I wanted space under the beds to store stuff !!!!!!! Since kondo under my bed now only has 1 tub of summer clothes mine and 1 tub OH. 1 tub with gift bags and wrap . And 1 sewing tub.
Under Grandsons bed is tubs for toys !
My sofas were from M and S 30% off less staff discount of 20% I have had them around 10 years, I bought neutral colour so I can just change paint or cushions when I need a refresh.
Cosmetics have been kondoed ,I keep 1 make up bag with all I need in foundation ,2 eye shadows ,mascara, and blush, and concealer. I don't buy new until I ve used up what I have. Lippy is kept in handbag;)
I need to wear make up for work so I don't scare the customers! Also for evenings out. The rest of the time I don't bother.
Mmf007 have a smashing time :rotfl:

I wish I could do without make-up, but I'm quite pale, with blond eyebrows and eyelashes. I do dye my eyebrows every two months, as I don't like eyebrow pencils. Added advantage: my dds listen better to me when I have eyebrows :D Most of the make-up was kondoed some years ago; current make-up is being used up be dds when I leave it in their reach ('reach' now includes anything they can use a chair for to get at).

I wasn't meaning to criticise the couple really it was the idea of that as a programme. The children already had more clothes than they needed but the programme thought it was a good idea to take their own expensive stuff away and swap it with something cheaper. Same with the make up and cleaning stuff, it was just a very strange programme and as Mavvy pointed out they didn't actually state where the cheaper better stuff came from have the time. I won't watch it again.
Still I suppose it was summed up by the bit in it about magazines, where most of it is adverts to encourage us to aspire to a certain lifestyle and buy things to chase it. If their was a programme encouraging us to forego buying anything but essentials and showing us how to live frugally who who buy the advertising space around that or what to feature in it as a manufacturer?

Broke my shredder yesterday, it's been limping along quite unhappily for a while but I guessed it was ber yesterday when smoke started coming from the on/off switch and it made a sad little popping noise.

Mrs M, this might seem expensive, but I've broken a lot of shredders, this one I've had about 4 years. I work from home and it gets a lot of use. The Fellowes ones just aren't up to the job IMO. Buy cheap, pay twice (or in my case, about 4 times!).

Another pass made at paperwork yesterday and today - lots recycled, some files got rid of entirely and a fair bit burned in the chiminea :D Also revisited stationery (last done about 9 months ago - and OH has had a couple of different contracts since then - so lots of chances for new stationery!!) - some binned, some recycled, some sent to CS -and some specific items kept for DD (starting UNi in Sept - if she doesn't need them there is a high chance DS1 (starting Sixth Form in Sept) will. Rather large stock of printer paper now relocated to new space in the stationery cupboard :):T - and OH has agreed to not purchase/ obtain any more stationery supplies for the foreseeable future! :rotfl:
