Most of the used clothing I see was pretty cheap when it was new, and 20% of the new price was the VAT, for adult-sized clothing. The used price needs to reflect the absence of the VAT and a depreciation for the wear and tear the item has experienced.
Also the charity shop gets their stock free rather than having to source and buy it.
Their shop staff are also unwaged, except for the manager and deputy manager who are paid little more than minimum wage. Their volunteers are often inexperienced.
I know from first hand experience that one of the largest charities sets impossible sales targets and targets to sign up customers to their gift aid scheme which bear no relationship to the smallness of our town. Most chain chazzers already cream off the best stuff for sale online/ in auctions/ via boutique versions of their main format shops.0 -
Unable to sleep I have taken what is left after years of whittling down cosmetics and sorted to one final bare minimal collection of products containing tinted moisturiser, lip balm, mascara and night moisturiser.
That is all and all the other kit accumulated can go. I was hanging on to it just incase and if I'm honest it was to use should I have to visit or be around people who I fully expect to judge me for not being cosmetically polished.
I'm not that person anymore and haven't been for some time. I don't care what people think because my skin is what it is because of what I feed it with not because of what I put on top of it. I can't really explain what I'm feeling right now but I can tell you that it feels very good to have an empty drawer containing only items that I feel I need.0 -
Good for you, fuddle.
I haven't worn makeup at all for about 30 years. It's not that I'm ignorant of how to apply it to best effect, it's simply that I prefer my naked face to the more-highly-coloured fake version which cosmetics provide.
You might even be surprised to find that reducing the load of petro-chemicals on your skin (which is what most cosmetics are, after all) makes it better not worse. Even in my early fifties, I'm wrinkle-free and the only place I ever use a cream is on my hands, because they're in and out of soapy water many times a day and need it.
And you are so right, being authentic to your true self, and filling your life with people who appreciate you for what you are, is much more rewarding than feeling fake.I starting working on some personal kondo-ing last week and have managed to kondo 4 lb of me in 5 days by limiting sugar. Only about another 5 stone of overweight to go, but it's trending downwards, yippee!
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

No makeup here either, though I do use facial moisturiser. My 'cosmetics drawer' contains just a concealer stick - well, actually it doesn't because the thing fell off the dressing table a week or so ago, and rolled under a heavy wardrobe which I haven't yet bothered to move to retrieve it
I hate the (sticky) feel of it on my face, and my sensitive skin didn't appreciate it, even the expensive brands. Gave it up years ago.0 -
Morning all
Really wet and miserable here this morning, got a busy day as mil has hospital appt and I've swapped a work shift with my lovely job share friend who also has a hospital appt.
Springdreams, I still have loads of paperwork to do. Bookshelves full of books I want to read, stacks of wrapping paper and gift bags I'll use 'one day' reams of books and paper 'that will come in handy' I just felt like I made a good start yesterday after a while away from that category.
Mavvy, I wasn't impressed with back in times version of kondoing if I'm honest, like you I was really excited when the book appeared and thought they might do it justice but thrusting a binbag at each member of the family and telling them to fill the skip didn't really cut it. If I hadn't read the book from their description I would think it was just another decluttering gimmick.
After that we watched a film Dh has been chasing for a while, it was on film four think it was called 71. It was about a young squaddie in Northern Ireland caught out one night and stuck between the Protestants and the Catholics with the added problem of some of the higher up plain clothes officers out causing trouble and double crossing everyone after infiltrating both sides. Very thought provoking and you can understand why there is still distrust and suspicion on all sides.
Going to have to catch up with happy valley tonight, but at least watching it on to means no DVD entered the house which up until rcently Dh would have just bought it without thinking wether it would be a one watch or not.
Can't decide if I want to read or knit in the waiting room so will take both and see what happens.
Have a joyful day all.SPC~12 ot 124

I have to wear make up for work
But otherwise don't really bother - which sometimes means I really do have to think about what I'm doing as if I go to long without using it I tend to forget how much of what goes where and in what order

I don't wear much make everyday, usually tinted moisturiser lippy and mascara. But I do like wearing it when we go out and special occasions. I have quite a stash but lots of it it stuff I've won or been given to test. I'm slowly working my way through it and haven't bought anything in ages.
Uber joyful moment we have booked to have a new bathroom so that's given me incentive to work through toiletry stash so the new one is uncluttered. Toiletries like bubble baths, body lotions and perfumes I can work through but if I tried to use make up faster I'd end up looking like a scary drag queenSPC~12 ot 124

I always feel that I must have been off school on the day that they taught you how to put make-up on, do your hair and other girly stuff. Other girls seemed to know these things. I've never been much good at it, this Christmas I got my stunning early-20s niece to show me how to apply foundation but it still doesn't look right.
There are parts of my job where I'm addressing groups of people and have to look smart so I wear makeup then, otherwise it's just mascara - I won't leave the house without that!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Morning all
I agree Mrs mp about back in time for the weekend and the decluttering as thats all it wasThe shelves made me laugh with that one tiny photo on.
shanks77 regards the foam inners on Norwich market which is a permanant market there is a man who cuts foam to size and is really reasonable so I dont know if you could find anywhere like that near you. Worth having a look around as they are so expensive online. He is about 1/3rd of the price of anywhere else I have seen.
If he hasnt got what you need he will get it for you in about a week.
Worth shopping local on this one if you can I think.
I wear makeup maybe 10 times a year than its only a bit of mascara and lippy. I hate the feeling of foundation or anything like that on my face and binned the lot. Doesnt hide the lines and wrinkles anyway so cant see the point of feeling I have a mask on :rotfl:
Do people really judge others for not wearing makeup  If they do they have far too much time on their hands if you ask me
Awful weather here today rain lashing down so will stay in and carry on painting (sounds like a jolly caper) staring sid and babs :rotfl:
Forgot to say well done GQ for kondoing the Sugar and getting that fab result

Evening all.
Well, very small-scale kondo-ing today. I have used up another stubby pencil and some more scrap paper, plus I have girded my loins and am about to recycle the last of the 35mm film canisters (I've kept three with some change in them, £1 and £2 coins and 50p pieces). This is major for me, it's take two passes already to get the saved canisters down to a mere handful, and now I can let them go.
Going offline for the rest of the evening, have a good time, folks.
Oddly enough five 35mm cannisters have gone in my recycling this morning, with their undeveloped contents into the bin. They've been in an odds and sods basket in the bedroom for years, I suspect they may be photos of cars my OH took in which case it's not worth spending the money on trying to get them developed and printed even if they could as they'd just get shoved in a drawer.
Yesterday I went to the loft and dragged a load of stuff out of the 'maps and guides' box I spotted a couple of weeks back. Several A-Z guides of a town we left 10 years ago and won't be moving back to, holiday guides of places that would be well out of date if we went back. Didn't get rid of everything, but may have another cull at some point.
Need to put the stuff out for the binmen today but it's raining heavily at the moment.
Will have to try and get more recycling bags when I visit town at the weekend as the stash is getting dangerously low!Make £2025 in 2025
