A Mav. Didn't look at B. But the former are usually pretty good for beds. No idea about sofas. I got my last one from Sofas & Stuff as they have a showroom local to me, but are relatively small.0

Morning all
This is a strange one as I logged on this morning and you are talking sofas :rotfl:I have 2 nice second hand ones I paid £160 last year but with my hip playing up they are a bit too soft for me now :(So I thought I would have a look at new ones  I cant believe the price of them now for a good make you are looking £5k +
I would never ever pay that sort of money for sofas so I am going to look at buying new harder foam inners for them.If I cant find a decent 2nd hand one somewhere.
Also beds I have been having a look at new beds and the one I liked was £8119  in a superking size. So again I am sticking with what I have got and just NOT buying it
I know there must be cheaper ones out there but that just put me off even looking anymore.
How can anyone spend that much on a bed ! Did your bed cost that sort of money ? and they are now saying you should change your bed every 8 years so that bed I saw would cost you almost £100 a month to sleep on
How long have you lot had your bed ? mine is about 12 years old now and is still ok.
Anyway back to painting here plodding on and quite enjoying itAs I am just taking my time and not living in a mess while doing it
It makes so much difference

It is not the whole bed that needs replacing every 8 years, it is only the mattress.
I bought a lovely kingsize TV bed and a memory foam sprung mattress off of Amazon in October last year for my 15yo DS for under £800.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

All of mine goes to Oxf*m but that is because I liked the shop manager and her assistant and I go along with the charity's aims overall. The volunteers are also good. Their M&S voucher scheme I find useful and my nect*r card is linked so I get points on anything that sells............also its the most convenient CS on my high street to off load from the car and they sell fairtrade chocolate and have a fab second hand book section and nothing seems overpriced..........any of the above would be a reason to choose;)
In fact I only donate to 2 charities - this one in kind, and an animal charity. This way I feel I can say 'no' to others and truthfully say that I have chosen the charities I donate to, and yours isn't one of them...hard nosed? Uncharitable? I feel very strongly a line has to be drawn.
I don't think it is hard nosed or uncharitable. There are so so many charities out there, all of whom need money. If we were to give to every single one we would have no money to pay for our own needs. Two charities is more than sufficient.
I generally give all my bits to the local hospice shop, but do give money every month to an animal charity. Today, however, I dropped off blankets and cushions to my local RSPCA. I also took a double bed duvet, but was told that they don't take duvets as the dogs rip them to shreds and they are therefore a choking hazard. I ended up donating the duvet to a Sense charity, as they were nearby the RSPCA one, and were most happy to have it.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

Mavymoo. Have you tried Lee Longlands furniture store. They have some good stuff and their sales are worth waiting for.
My son bought his bed from there. He is 6ft3 and wanted a nice king size. He found a corker in their sale, solid Indonesian teak. It weighs a ton and will last a lifetime. He paid around £400 for the bedstead, absolute bargain.. The mattress was seperate. He Also got 2 X matching side chest of drawers. It all looks really smart and always gets lots of compliments from removal men, and any tradespeople we've had in doing work. It comes to pieces for easy handling.
My other son bought a lovely bedroom suite for him and his bride to be......a gorgeous dark mahogany sleigh bed, bedside tables and matching wardrobe. Absolutely stunning and excellent quality. Again in the lee Longlands sale. Less than £2k the lot. Still needs to get the mattress for that one.
My current bed was an ex show house one, never been used, still in its wrappers. A modern divan without headboard but with a very comfortable memory foam mattress. Retails at £1200, I got it for £150. They wanted £250 but I haggled.
Oddly enough there's a new housing development Just been completed near here and I was offered another bed just last week. Didn't know anyone who needed one so declined their kind offer.
If there's any new builds near you it might be worth asking.......
I used to work in new builds and we often sold stuff off when it was time to dismantle the show house. Obviously staff get first pick - well we had to have some perks.....but it's always worth a try.
Took my first car load away today, to Two different chazzers. Dr Bernados who are lovely and Scope where I used to help out. I also donate to the YMCA who have a furniture outlet.
Over the years I have bought some lovely pieces from them. The other good thing is they will accept electrical items, they test them before selling them.
They also have volunteers who can do simple restoration work so they always sort out any minor defects in their furniture, ie dodgy drawers or wonky doors and will check and treat for woodworm etc.0 -
Got on really well with paper kondoing today, started by just doing recycling, then had some papers to file which lead me to go through the file and weed out some old stuff to shred while putting the newer stuff in neatly. Which lead me to the stationary drawers, I've now put 8 bags of recycling out. Didn't think I had that much left to do in paper.SPC~12 ot 124

Evening all.
Well, very small-scale kondo-ing today. I have used up another stubby pencil and some more scrap paper, plus I have girded my loins and am about to recycle the last of the 35mm film canisters (I've kept three with some change in them, £1 and £2 coins and 50p pieces). This is major for me, it's take two passes already to get the saved canisters down to a mere handful, and now I can let them go.
Going offline for the rest of the evening, have a good time, folks.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

*delurks* Mavvymoo if you find foam inners would you let me know please. I have been looking for a while with limited luck as for the most part it would cost almost as much to buy the inners as a new sofa. Thanks in advance xx
