Another pass done on clothes and to my surprise a large bin bag filled. I have a LOT of clothes but I have handled every item and done the joy test :D. In addition to the wardrobe there is a caseful which doesn't fit me at the mo :o and also a case of summer stuff and another with high heeled boots - not worn this year so they have until Xmas to be worn or chucked. I do love them all but a combo of living in Spain, walking everywhere and informal life style means they've not been needed. Put together an outfit for UK christening next month from items I'd forgotten about :o, and a pair of aforementioned boots :T.

I've just been and had another go at OH's chest of drawers and work wardrobe. I knew he had a lot of brand new shirts, but I've just counted 11 in unopened packets! I've told him already, no more until these have been used. I also found 2 brand new ties so these have been rolled and added to his tie drawers to bring them into use. He's taken to the new tie filing system as he can see the whole collection much easier now.

The unopened shirts have been filed on their sides in a drawer until they can be brought into use. I know KM doesn't approve of this but he has a lot of other work shirts still being used. I'll be a bit more ruthless at encouraging anything showing signs of wear out of the door.

I also found 2 new work polo shirts for myself and will bring one into use and bin the one I splashed bleach on.

OH's in for a bit of surprise when he comes home tomorrow night as I've had to swap drawers around a bit as the new shirts were too tall for the empty drawer. I've folded his 'loungewear/scruffs' differently and got them in a shallower drawer.

Filing the shirts in the drawer (4 of which were still in the bag from the shop cluttering up the room), moving a couple of jumpers into a wardrobe has allowed me to get a pair of new trainers into a wardrobe. Whilst in there I found instructions for a telly that broke about 10 years ago! Also spotted there's 2 shoeboxes I can snaffle if needed (we don't seem to have anything like the amount of shoeboxes KM seems to expect!).

I am sure nobody thought you were criticising the couple. You were right in what you were saying. It wasnt the couple it was the programme makers who didnt give us answers.

Think that they need to do a year of not buying it themselves....It was a weird programme though...still get more stuff but for cheaper?!?

I think the idea of the program was to show that you can buy stuff for much less than that couple......by not spending on designer[STRIKE] carp[/STRIKE] stuff and top brand - bit like drop a brand/ buying own brand in food terms. I agree that it looked like it was just 'buying more stuff' but the remit of the show wasnt looking as possessions and buying for the sake of it.........after all the kids do need clothes!............ but not at ridiculous prices....... I didnt like the program - too many of this sort around now so probably wont watch anymore

I haven't worn makeup at all for about 30 years. It's not that I'm ignorant of how to apply it to best effect, it's simply that I prefer my naked face to the more-highly-coloured fake version which cosmetics provide.

Make up free here too........never worn it.....and everybody gets my age wrong. Usually about 10 years younger than I actually am. Do I feel smug? You betcha:D I use a very light moisturiser and never use soap on my face - hot flannel rub:eek: I do look after my hands and feet cos they work hard - good penetrating moisturiser for both :) My DDs are by and large make up free too and their BFs always remark how quickly they can get ready. Between the 3 of us we spend less time in the bathroom than the men in our lives:rotfl:

Just kondoed a sneaky takeaway........not something that happens very often but its been a busy week...........and it not over yet:o

Charity bag is filling up nicely - I have kept chucking things in each time I find something - seems to be mainly kitchen stuff as there are still boxes lurking in corners from when we replaced kitchen at the end of last year, that I still havent put back. So I am working on the basis that if we havent used it since Christmas is unlikely that we need it.

  • Slinky thanks for that link, I wish I'd known about them. Like you I work from home and most shredders just aren't up to the job, I've yet to find one that actually manages more than one sheet at a time. I'm going to look at that site when the current one gives up.

Ha, ha, Wort, I see waht you did there :D

everyone has been so busy kondo-ing. Well done

I still have plenty to do but it is on hold, except for a few little wins, because we have a lot of family commitments for the next 3 weeks or so.

I am still amazed and delighted that the big push last summer is still paying dividends. Everytime I open the kitchen cupboards, the freezer or my clothes drawers, I am bowled over - they have remained tidy, everything is soooooo easy to find and what a difference that's made to everyday life :)

It may sound odd to anyone not in the MK coven but I am seriously looking forward to phase two.

    :) Morning all.

I'm finding that MK is helping with some anxiety issues. I'm not even sure what I have are my anxieties, can you effectively inherit the urge to hoard or is it just learned behaviour?

Anyway, I'm still getting to the point where I can say to myself; Let it go. You overbought, you may never need it again, if you do it will have probably died in storage and replacing the item will cost £1-£2 which is a better bet than risking wastage and the nuisance factor of having it around the premises in the meantime.

Of course, having a very small flat, and a very small storage shed (the latter being 90% bicycle) helps to focus the mind wonderfully. I feel the contents of another chazzer bag developing and I already have my beady eye on several items.

  • Last night was a busy kondo night. I finally insisted my son got a desk in his room after an argument, got one on the bay of E which I picked up last night. He had to clear the shelves which were in the way. He did most of the work himself and left a massive pile of unwanted items in my room on my bed! So now I need to get them out of the house. Some I will sell and give him the money for his hols. A shelf unit in the kitchen kondoed itself and everything on it went on the floor. It made me clear everything and I liked the space. However there are a few homeless items so I have put sons unwanted shelves there for the time being.
The good thing is he was merrily working at his desk last night

Interesting - I think hoarding is a symptom of anxiety in many cases - fear of letting go.

I wouldn't class myself as a hoarder, and I'm not usually anxious but I have had a problem for some years now about leaving the house to go away overnight. I'm always late because I keep running back in to check things and I'd have to do loads of jobs (put the washing away, empty the dishwasher) that aren't really urgent, before I could leave.

Since MK, this has all changed. Packing is so easy - partly because I have fewer clothes to choose from! and I can leave the bedroom and kitchen looking tidy without too much effort. It really is 'life changing'.
