Such interesting posts, as usual :T
siebrie, you are doing great! It took me years to work out that I didn't need to waste my time and effort repeating things, so long as the other person knew I meant it first time round they knew to listen properly. Remember, 'I will say zis only once' :rotfl: Unfortunately the other person in this case is DH
igamogam - yep, totally agree. It drives me mad when I hear parents pleading with their kids to do/stop doing something. Just tell them firmly to stop  !!
musogirl295 - pat on the back for you. I am wallowing in the reflected [STRIKE]glory[/STRIKE] kondo-ing :T
kittie - be kinder to yourself, you're doing well with the categories so far, but cut out the internet shopping for a few weeks and see how that feels? I too have struggled, well still am struggling with clothes for lots of reasons but I am taking baby steps. As lessonlearned said, we can do it in our own sweet time and enjoy this journey
GQ - i am quite envious of your day, what great finds! I can almost picture you bounding round, tigger-like with joy :j
And finally, from one decorator to another - well done Mavvy:T although i have happily put the brushes and paint awsy I still have my sofa in the middle of the room, along with the living room door and 2 side tables. Planning on finishing tomorrow, then it's the big clean up! But it is looking pretty swish, if I do say so myself. Am awaiting the Woo to find me a beautiful table lamp now ( in place of the 2 disastrous standard lamps that were kondo'd a while back).
Have a lovely evening everyone.
M
PS, hope you are feeling better Dragonette xoxI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
It was crawling around in a confined space, but it was a very interesting couple of hours. There was a customer in the shop when I burst out of the back room with what I thought was a sword, brandishing it, crying Look what I found!
Poor bloke looked a little worried! Pal later explained it's a bayonet. There is a proper sword in the umbrella stand at that shop, along with a baseball bat. Never threaten to rob independant shop-keepers, they may have some interesting objets to hand.:rotfl:
ETA; to fellow ME sufferers (I know there are a few of us on these boards) I'd like to share something; I quit dairy and cut starches to almost nothing about 4 days ago and my energy levels are going sky-high. I'm normally nearly asleep by this point in the evening, but have been bouncing off the walls and feeling HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY, can't stop grinning.
Not that I'm Ms Miserable normally, but I'm feeling disgustingly bouncy. Pre-ME, one of my nicknames was Tigger - if I'm a PITA, bear with me, energy is a novelty I'm just not used to!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi all
Finally caught up with myself now, spent Wed in the hospital at the fast track Stroke/TIA clinic - results came back as no stroke, being sent for an MRI. Yesterday I was at another of my city's hospitals to discuss elective sterilisation, and ended up getting a copper coil fitted with no anesthetic. V glad to be on rediculous painkillers for the ME and Fibro!!
Despite the above health scares I am in my twenties - retirement will not exist for my generation. Not unless something very dramatic happens, and huge dramatic things are rarely good for most people. Moot point atm as I'm too ill to work (grumbles) so am getting lots of practice at cutting back on things to keep life ticking over comfortably enough. My aim is to reduce my expenditure to the point I can work a low-medium number of hours sustainably without severely affecting my health.
Mav I found that too, its so easy to put things away without thinking when there isn't loads of things in the way.
MMF I feeling much less scared, thank you
GQ Love it!! I can think of a few houses which have similar, ah, attributes(?).
Siebrie, they will learn fairly quickly I'm sure, I certainly did at that age
My kondo victory for this week is managing to dust the entire flat in 20 mins. This included skirting boards, picture rails (ah, victorian tenements), doors, shelves, top of cupboards (inc kitchen) and even the top of the gas meter! I love my extending micro-fibre duster - I wouldnt have been able to do half of that in a full day otherwise. 30 mins including washing the duster afterwards, I can't complain about that
ETA: accidental double post, corrected now:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -

That is interesting, I have had to cut all dairy due to an allergy suddenly flaring from annoying to really dangerous. Not a PITA at all - enjoy the energy! Goodness knows its rare enough we get it sometimes, so seize it and take joy
I'd love to cut down (at least) my sugar intake, but I find I struggle to find drinks I like and are safe. Cannot have: tea, coffee, fruit teas, fruit juice, artificial sweeteners and I simply do not drink enough water when I try to cut out the sugary things. I'm currently testing an elderflower cordial, somewhat tentatively as the other make I like has lemon juice in it and my mouth became swollen.:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Hey Dragonette, can you round to my house with the magic duster, please? It's a bit post-Vesuvius here due to all the sanding down! It's definitely due to that, it was immaculate before, of course

I'm sure there are other options etc, but it works really well for me:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Oh, the pal with the not-junk shop told me something amusing today.
A chap he does business with sometimes is in the house-clearance line. He was asked to help clear some stuff from an elderly widow's home and took some stuff away and was asked to come back because there was 'something' in the attic.
He duly went up and discovered that 'something' was a Gatling gun (19th century precursor to the machine gun).
He left it there, explaining that this kind of item was well outside his remit. Gawd only knows where that family had got it, or why it was in their loft.My pal jokingly asked if I'd found the hand grenades - as he has a side line in militaria, that wasn't so implausible as not to be worrying.

Dragonette - thanks for the link to that magic duster. I have just ordered it. Why didn't I think of getting one like this. It will make my life so much easier.
I don't have ME (although I do get very tired) but I did have fibro pain. I overhauled my diet - I now eat Paleo, no grains, no starchy carbs and only limited dairy, mainly lacto free. I now feel heaps better, fibro pain gone, IBS much better, GORD eradicated.
Re sugar, I discovered on Monday that I am now pre-diabetic so have just switched to xylitol. Hoping to get blood sugars under control without resorting to medication.
Cutting dairy and starches seems to help with quite a few health issues.
Not done any kondoing today. Having a little break but will get back to it next week. I'm really excited because I now feel ready to really for it. :rotfl:0 -

I'm glad it was usefulGrains and veg and a little meat are about all I eat safely some days, not quite sure how I would manage if I cut out grains. I have an appt with an anaphylaxis dietician at some point - I'm sure that will be an interesting discussion

I'm researching primal/ paleo atm and making some adjustments towards that way of life. Not in a financial position to chuck out everything in the larder/ fridge but some food types are being used up and not replaced.
It actually makes a lot of sense to me, keeping your diet close to what must be natural for us; fresh veggies, meat, fish, and limiting the refined carbohydrates.
I know I am a sugar fiend and cannot control myself around sweeties and cake - one bite and I want (and probably will have if it's mine/ no one's looking) the whole big chocolate bar/ serves-16 party cake/ pkt of biscuits/ whatever. And that I will soon want more, more more of the same. It was this kind of behaviour which has seen my weight increase to a third above where it should be in the past 10 years. Being on appetite stimulant medication doesn't help matters.
It's interesting. I've never eaten a lot of dairy as it doesn't agree with me, but the main thing was milk in tea. Stopped that 5 days ago when the milk ran out, drinking my tea black, drank white tea late yesterday afternoon at pal's and ended up with wind a few hours later.
Anyway, going off subject considerably here.:o;) Today's mission is a couple of errands and possibly allotmenteering, if the weather comes good. Bit dodgy atm. If I have to hang out at home, it'll be some more kondo-clearing in the bedroom.
Onwards and upwards, my lovelies. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
