How odd, MMF007, I too have been through the cupboard under our drinks cabinet, hoiked out a pair of glasses still boxed that were a freebee from a drinks company and have never been used. Also dragged out a box of placemats and a box of coasters that can go to the CS plus a gadget that's supposed to tell you about different sorts of wine, but of course never has the one on it you're drinking. The battery is probably flat so that'll be going in the bin. Has made a bit more room. There's 6 dessert bowls and a matching 'trifle' bowl which are never used, but I know OH won't let me part with them so I'll just have to try and find ways to use them!
Visited the local garden centre and bought a new vase and a load of silk flowers. We recently changed our cushions and the previous flowers/vase have been moved to the dining room where they are a better colour match. The new flowers look very nice but I need to buy a couple more sprays to fill the gaps. OH agreed we could recycle 5 dark blue bottles that have been decorative for a number of years but now look cluttered in the fireplace with the new flowers, so they are in the recycling bin. He has also agreed I can CS some wooden tulips and vase that no longer fit in our colour scheme.
Have spent a very satisfying half hour shredding some very old business paperwork and filling up a couple of large boxes with the output.

What? It tells you if its red , white or pink??:rotfl::rotfl:;)
So done the hour in the bathroom. Will leave porch until tomorrow as I think the best way to deal with it is to drag it all out of the front door, sort it, and clean porch before putting back......well weather depending! bathroom yielded stuff for recycling in the shape of lots of virtually empty bottles that I can no longer stand seeing on shelf waiting to be used...........some the 'clear' body washes I just decanted into one bottle and I have stuck that in my swim bag. Others I have rinsed out and put in recycle box..........looking in the large walk in cupboard we have in there I think I need to revisit towels and bedding...........its never bloomin ending:D
BTW I used a new bathroom cleaning sponge thing - Fl*sh 'magic cleaning sponge'.....hmmmm. I threw it away when I finished as it was falling apart! Nothing magic about it:mad: Now I have a few of these in the cleaning cupboard under kitchen sink as they were on offer ( now I know why) and a friend said they were really good. Looks I will be konding the unused ones to the CS!Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

No idea. It was one of those pointless things that people buy you for Christmas when they can't think of anything else! I recall they also gave us some wine stoppers...... 3 of them. Like a bottle of wine once opened in this house doesn't get finished!!!Make £2025 in 2025

I've got some winestoppers too - only time they get used is when the wine is too disgusting to drink so I slosh it in the cooking!
Not done much today - very cold here so had a nice bath, washed my hair & did manage to put a load in the WM. DH has put the fire and poured a little alcofrolic & the cats sat on his chest while he's watching True Grit lol. May stir myself in a minute to make a carbonara for us.

What is it with bottle stoppers why on Earth do we all get this type of carp for gifts do our friends and family not really like us or something
I did get given a set of these some while ago like corks with Spanish Flamenco dancers on the top of them :rotfl:Why ? Why? I just dont understand it.:silenced:
Which whoever wrapped them for me that special Christmas had more than likely nicked them from a budget spanish hotel in the Summer
Anyway they were kondoed before marie was even born
Now you can really understand why I have jumped off the buying gift wagon when you read aboveThat year I also got a Lenny Henry joke book :rotfl:Which I never ever understood as I never liked him in anyway way shape or form

I agree with you about satinwood paint, Mavvy. Ours was H8mbase own brand. All I wanted was to change the colour of the kitchen unit doors. There are a lot of them. From a dated green to a light biscuit colour. My daughter helped me and we found the colour pigment had disappeared into the bottom of the paint but we stirred and stirred and it looked OK. However when it dried you could see every brush mark and the paint was unevenly coloured, in a kind of fudge and cream tartan effect. It was terrible and impossible to sand down, being so sticky. In the end I opted for new doors, 'professionally' installed, an even greater disaster, as they were a bunch of incompetents. After we had the paint experience I mentioned it to a neighbour and she said 'oh yes, we had the same problem with satinwood in the previous house'. If only I had known...0

I actually use bottle stoppers, living on my tod I rarely finish a bottle of wine, so I keep it for a little drinkie later in the week/for cooking with.
Interesting about the satinwood paint, I had my hall, stairs and landing done about two years ago. All great but there's a newel post at the top which I touch every time I go up and down. Within days it felt sticky and looked grubby, so I washed it, only to find to my disappointment that the paint started peeling. I'm relieved, if annoyed, to find it's the paint and not my fault. Grrr. Have to repaint with gloss I think.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Odd one out here, but I actually love satinwood paint - my house is Edwardian, and it just seems to fit better than gloss with the period character. I have also used eggshell though, which I didn't get on with. Not sure if it makes any difference, but ours was painted professionally (we were both working stupid hours and needed it done in order to move in after a refurb - we kept the cost down by just having emulsion in neutral shades on the walls, and trade satinwood on the woodwork, all the way through the house). The painter we used did many thin coats and lots of sanding in between - whereas I would have just slapped it on
It was done nearly 5 years ago and is still fine -the odd chip here and there where the grandchildren have bashed it with a toy, or we have bashed it when moving furniture, but nothing we worry about.
Another vote for bottle stoppers here. OH doesn't drink wine and I rarely have more than one small glass. I like white wine, and if stoppered and kept in the fridge it is ok for up to a week for drinking or longer for cooking, and even fizz will keep for a couple of daysOf course, most wine seems to come in screw tops these days, so stoppers aren't needed as much as they used to be.

Happy Mother's Day to everyone who has, or still does care for someone in the capacity of a mum. I will not be needing a bottle stopper today!Don’t put it down - put it away!
