Started big photo declutter yesterday. Have now got a plastic box for each child and each will be given one when completed the task. If nothing else it is something for an X wife to chop up in a rage that is valueless financially! Just joking!
Did a couple of years of serious decluttering up to Feb 2015 when I became ill and I am just starting to feel interested in my surroundings again. 30 years of stuff done. Books were the hardest previously and not time for the dreaded photo stash. Here we go .

    Morning kondoites :D

Still painting very slowly but I have noticed I am working so much 'cleaner' than I did before KM :) Things put away as soon as I have finished using them, no paint cans stuck on newspaper in a corner somewhere with a heap of dustsheets and brushes and other carp along side them :o
All put away where they should go even if I am getting them back out again later on :D
I didnt think about it it just happened :rotfl:

But where its been done its no longer sticky and looking so much brighter so am happy how its going. It is going to take ages but will do it in small sections and if it takes 6 months so be it ;) I am not going to kill myself and to be honest thats where I have changed along this KM path.:D Much more laid back about it all.And if everything is put away and nothing left out it really doesnt matter how long it takes ;)

Well better get started or it will take me a year I reckon :o

  • I have been very fortunate in being able to repay my mortgage and leave full time work at 55. I just couldn't face the thought of another 12 years (yup, should have been 5 but the goalposts moved!) commuting and I wanted more time to do the things I enjoy.

It's meant trimming my budget severely, I'm now self employed but earning around 1/4 of my old salary and it's only now, ten months on, that I'm earning enough to break even. I have never been happier. Friends thought I was bonkers but when I see them struggling to fit it all in, stressed and tired I know I did the right thing. No fancy holidays, no big purchases here but no regrets either.

As you say GQ, it's not an option for everyone. However friends say 'oh, but I couldn't afford to do it' - in many cases they could, they just don't want to make the choices I've made.

I'm not being smug, I know not everyone's had some of the chances I've had - it's so nice to find others on here who value time and quality of life above money. And the MSE forum has helped me hugely on my quest for a better lifestyle!

I kondo'ed some stress: my lovely dds had started to not listen to me, to only move when I got really upset and shouting. I got really angry yesterday evening and laid down some ground rules: I will only ask them once, I will no longer wait for them to get going; I will continue what I do and move unto the next item on my list. If they are not keeping up, I am not waiting for them. They are 7 and 4, so if they don't get out of bed soon enough, and take forever picking clothes (different ones from the one they picked before going to bed), I will no longer be in the bathroom the help them wash and get dressed. If they don't come to the table, they will miss the main course and be re-invited for pudding, but not extra-large portions. Next meal is tomorrow morning. This morning they were really well-behaved :)

My books went to the CS this morning, along with a bag of rags, and about 10 cards.

I was annoyed when I went through my cards, as I'd bought a perfect one for a friend a while ago and forgotten I'd bought it. I bought her another which was nice enough but not as good as the original one I'd bought. I've already sent the second card. I'm determined now that fate/whatever means I will send my perfect card to my friend next year and that she still will be here dispite a terminal diagnosis. She's only early 40s.

Why wait? Send it to her with an explanation, or maybe at the 'half year' anniversary?

I did think of that but now fate says she has to live to receive it next year. I'll tell her that.

    Thanks Watty :)

I'm fairly sure cherry laurel is as much a non burner as ordinary laurel :(

Watching it and scraping it together every so often makes complete sense - at its most basic, keeping the fiery bits in contact with one another, I suppose.

I'm very squeamish about setting up a bonfire on the ground - a lot of worms and soil life would die :o I need to do more research on this, as I'd be using an old cast iron barbecue I bought at a street market.

    Thanks for posting.

Thing you need to be more concerned abut is hedgehogs creeping into the pile - we always had bonfires of garden waste but now have a shredder and a green waste collection every week. We would pile up in one place and then move to the fire site - never did find a hedgehog but it was worth it. In fact the only place we found a hedgehog was in the shed - stuck in the spokes of a bicycle wheel - we extracted him, fed him and he snuffled off with a look back!

Laurel burns like stink! Waxy leaves go up like a rocket and wood is very dense - we put laurel logs on our log burner. You need a small hot fire to start with, then add the leafy stuff. My Oh prides himself on smokeless bonfires!!

Tbh I have not been as radical as Marie suggests but I don't think that matters - well not to me.

Im getting there in my own sweet time, even if it means revisiting my "stuff" several times. It's not a race.

I'm enjoying the journey just as much as I will the destination. :rotfl:

    I agree !!
