Well my excess cookery books are mainly at the charity shop, it would appear my Thursday group are not big on cooking! The bookends I got from Amazon work really well, most of my remaining cookery books are now stood upright on the trolley apart from about 5 which are resting on their side as they are too tall. Only one is still lying flat as it's square and too tall in both directions. Typical. It is one we do use though.

I was toying with the idea of getting a new address book a couple of years ago as so many people have died. However I decided against it. I use the book mainly at Christmas for cards, I can at least think about those people at that time when seeing their name, so they aren't forgotten, even if I can't send a card anymore.

I worry about commiting important stuff in my life to my phone, too much heartache if I lose it. So a manual book stays on my desk.

Igamogam, sorry its so tough right now - at least there's an end in sight to keeping quiet, you know you're doing it for DD2.

Phone - I keep just phone numbers on my phone - there's not only losing it, there's it breaking - it decided to reformat itself recently, and I lost over 150 photos - because I'm paranoid about backing up :) I didn't lose any, so to speak, but it confirmed to me that a phone isn't good enough as my only storage point.

Igamogam, That's just not fair, not only is someone not supporting you when you are trying to achieve something important (and ultimately useful to THEIR happiness as well, one would think!), but worse, they are making you feel bad about it. I wonder if it a case of someone thinking they are making light of it but totally misunderstanding how you feel about that?

I don't really do sarcasm or mickey taking so I find it hard when I am the subject of same. I am practising simply saying that the comment is unhelpful. I say nothing more than that, just let THEM stew on it for a bit, not me!!!

Keep your chin up - you are doing a great job. It doesn't matter how long it takes, one step at a time, an' all that.

Here's a virtual hug in case that helps (((o)))

I was going through some stuff in the attic again, when I found a plastic bag full of what I thought were starter bras. Turns out there are also small bikinis and some parts of bikinis in that bag. I aim to have everything in sturdy boxes (mice...), so the tiny bras are going to join the 'underwear' box, and the whole bikinis will join the 'tights' box. Weird, I know, but to me it makes sense, so there. The single tops and bottoms....not sure yet; ragbag probably. I might run into the other halves at some point, but not sure I want to wait for it.

Actually I could do with some advice about that. I've had 3 different friends in, one I'm happy to have do a few hours fortnightly, one who can do the awkward and bigger things - both of these don't need any supervisions. The third one does, things like sweeping the bathroom floor is not the same as cleaning it and asking to clean under/behind the sofas means they need to move the sofas. My issue is that atm I am not well enough to work along side them to show them properly. I could just not have them in again, but they are badly short of money and I would happily give them the work *if* it was done properly.

Cleaning inside the loo and inside the bath but not the sides or sink or floor doesn't equate to cleaning the bathroom to me, especially when you are getting paid to do it! I feel really mean that I don't think I can be bothered or give the energy to teach them, so I'm not sure how best to fix this

Can I make a ( somewhat belated) suggestion?
Write a checklist for each room -
First start with what you expect to be done weekly ie scrub inside of toilet, wipe outside of toilet etc. then if there are "monthly" jobs share them over 4 weeks and number them week 1-4. Monthly jobs might be windows so you could have bathroom window cleaned on week 1 and bedroom week 2. Also include floors sweeping/ mopping/vacuuming.

Then the list is set, that's what you expect and you and your paid helper know where you stand.

Now back to catching up, ordered the book on kindle and have to read that before I properly join the thread!

Isn't it amazing how much less space clothes take up when they are rolled or folded? I've just tackled OH's 'decorating/gym T shirts' drawer which was always overflowing when I opened it. Now I've rolled all the contents, there's way more space.

I also attacked his 'spare' socks drawers. One of them was hiding another load of paperwork from 2008........ which has just met its end in the shredder. The only useful thing I found was the paperwork for credit card Sentinel which he needs to do a reclaim for mis-selling so that could be useful.

I do wish his mum would stop buying him socks at Christmas. He has 4 sock drawers........... I seriously wonder if we'll ever need to buy any new ones. One drawer has 4 multipacks of brand new socks in it!

Well I tidied up cleared out and vacuumed the office ..........of what is deemed MY clutter. A lot was filed. Desk cleared. Some books out for CS. Log burner kept busy and recycle box filled. I also have a pile of small boxes and packaging that a local freecycl*er will have - they sell small breakables on Eb*Y etc. 50 % of the floor can be seen now and the top of my filing cabinet is clear. Books on shelves standing up and clear boxes on other shelves with paper, pens, printer stuff and camera bits all neat and labeled :) Some proper rubbish in bin and stuff that belongs o kitchen/bathroom/shed/DDs room all back where they should be. Feeling smug :D OH home form work and hasnt said a word as what is left is clearly stuff he has to deal with - I would bin most of it cos I have no use/interest in it. I dont think he realises just how much in this room is his responsibility................. Well he does now :D My intention is to now keep on top of it so I can concentrate on other things and not use it as a dumping ground.

Take out, say, one drawers-worth of socks that you will use in maybe a week. Store the rest in a box in an attic/garage/cupboard until the ones "in use" get worn out then replace. That way you don't take up easily-accessible drawer space with stuff that's never used and you don't end up with a mountain of odd socks after doing the washing because every pair has been worn before being washed (if you're the kind of person who waits until they have no stuff left before washing things)! :)

Listening to Michael Ball on Radio 2 earlier. Someone said they had a fish kettle bought in the 80's - moved, taken abroad, brought back & still in the cupboard, never used - I was shouting at the radio KONDO KONDO KONDO!!! (to the tune of 'Tell me when lol)

Lol, maybe showing my age here but what is a fish kettle? I'm imagining a teapot stuffed with fish lol!

A long, oblong shaped pan (with rounded corners) with a lid, and a trivet inside, for cooking whole, large fish such as salmon :) Used to have one, sold it :D
